The Chemung River ( shə-MUNG) is a tributary of the Susquehanna River, approximately 46.4 miles (74.7 km) long, in south central New York and northern Pennsylvania in the United States. It drains a mountainous region of the northern Allegheny Plateau in the Southern Tier of New York. The valley of the river has long been an important manufacturing center in the region but has suffered a decline in the late 20th century.

Greens Landing is a census-designated place in Athens Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is located along US Route 220 approximately five miles south of the borough of Athens. As of the 2010 census, the population of Greens Landing was 894 residents.

The Universalist Meeting House of Sheshequin is a historic church, built in 1827 in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The church is currently used during the months of July and August by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Athens and Sheshequin.Surrounding the church is a contributing cemetery. The cemetery predates the meeting house by about 30 years, but was operated together with the church from 1827 to 1914.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Athens Historic District, also known as Tioga Point Historic District, is a national historic district located at Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The district includes 97 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in a primarily residential area of Athens. The buildings date between about 1801 and 1935, and include notable examples of vernacular and high style Greek Revival and Queen Anne style architecture. Also located in the district are the First Presbyterian Church (1881), Trinity Episcopal Church (1860-1861), and Riverside Cemetery / Old Athens Cemetery. Located in the district and separately listed are the Protection of the Flag Monument and Spalding Memorial Library-Tioga Point Museum.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Protection of the Flag Monument (also known as the "Defense of the Flag Monument") is a historic war memorial located in Academy Park at 715 South Main Street in Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Designed in the Classical Revival style by the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, with a sculpture by George Thomas Brewster, it was erected between 1900 and 1902, and has a granite pedestal topped by a bronze sculpture group. The sculpture depicts an adult soldier and a young drummer boy attired in Revolutionary War clothing and protecting their flag from falling into enemy hands. A commemorative plaque indicates it was dedicated in memory of the soldiers who fought in defense of the flag.This monument was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. It is located in the Athens Historic District.

Bridge in Athens Township was a historic Pennsylvania (petit) truss bridge in Athens Township and Athens, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. It spanned the Susquehanna River. It was built between 1913 and 1916, and measured 540 feet (164.6 m) long. It had two spans; one measuring 253 feet (77.1 m) long and built by the Penn Bridge Co. and the second measuring 287 feet (87.5 m) long and built by the Bethlehem Steel Bridge Co.The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It was replaced by a new bridge in 2005 and delisted from the National Register in 2012.

It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is located 2 miles (3 km) south of the New York state line on the Susquehanna and Chemung rivers. The population was 3,749 in 1900 and 3,796 in 1910. The population was 3,265 at the 2020 census. Athens is in a small area locally known as "The Valley", a group of four contiguous communities in Pennsylvania and New York: Waverly, New York; South Waverly, Pennsylvania; Sayre, Pennsylvania; and Athens. The Valley has a population near 30,000. In September 2011, Athens was heavily damaged by river flooding from Tropical Storm Lee. Much of Athens was under water, with the most damage in the downtown area along the river. Damage in nearby Tioga County, New York, was estimated at $100 million.

Sayre is a borough in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. It is the principal city in the Sayre, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. It lies 18 miles (29 km) southeast of Elmira, New York, and 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Binghamton. It is currently the largest city in Bradford County. In the past, various iron products were made there. In 1900, 5,243 people lived there; in 1910, 6,426 people lived there, and in 1940, 7,569 persons made their homes in Sayre. The population was 5,403 at the 2020 census.Sayre is part of the Penn-York Valley ("The Valley"), a group of four contiguous communities in New York and Pennsylvania: Waverly, New York; South Waverly, Pennsylvania; Sayre; Athens, Pennsylvania, and smaller surrounding communities with a combined population near 35,000.

Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is a rural teaching hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. It was founded as Robert Packer Hospital in 1885, making it the oldest hospital in the Twin Tiers of Pennsylvania and New York. The hospital is a primary stroke center and level I trauma center. It has received numerous awards, including being named one of the Truven Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals 10 times since 2001, "America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention" by HealthGrades in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and receiving a Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award in 2019. It has also received a Center of Distinction Award for wound care and hyperbarics in 2018.

The Penn-York Valley (referred to locally as The Valley) is a group of communities that straddles the New York and Pennsylvania border. It includes the villages and boroughs of: Waverly, New York Sayre, Pennsylvania Athens, Pennsylvania South Waverly, PennsylvaniaThese four central communities have a population of 14,822 as of the 2000 Census, and a population of 14,425 as of the 2010 Census. The entire Greater Valley has a population near 35,000. Due to geographic boundaries, the Penn-York Valley is broken up into two Census regions: the Binghamton metropolitan area and the Sayre micropolitan area. The Valley is part of the Twin Tiers. The community saw historic flooding due to rain from Tropical Storm Lee, exceeding levels of the Mid-Atlantic United States flood of 2006. Damages in Tioga County alone were estimated at around $100 million.
