Tübingen Faculty of Economics

The Faculty of Modern Languages (German: Neuphilologische Fakultät) was one of fourteen faculties at the University of Tübingen. It was dissolved in 2010 in the course of the administrative reform, where the number of faculties was reduced from fourteen to seven. The faculty merged with the former Faculty of Philosophy and History and the former Faculty of Cultural Anthropology into the new Faculty of Humanities (German: Philosophische Fakultät). The Faculty of Modern Languages was the largest faculty of the university with about 8,000 students. It was located in the Neuphilologikum in the Wilhelmstraße area of the town. Most staff and students referred to both faculty and building by the building's unofficial name, Brechtbau, named after the German author and playwright Bertolt Brecht. The building has its own lecture theatres for use by the faculty's departments as well as being equipped with a significant library containing over 300,000 volumes. Computer pools and wireless internet access allow students to conduct research online.

The University Library of Tübingen (German: Universitätsbibliothek Tübingen; UB Tübingen) is the main library of the University of Tübingen, one of the biggest and most renowned universities in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The people who worked for he University Library of Tübingen include Hermann Kurz, Adelbert von Keller, Robert von Mohl and Rudolf von Roth. After the foundation of the university in 1477, the library was located at the so-called Sapienzhaus, later it was moved to the Alte Aula, the former main building of the university, then to Hohentübingen Castle (all of those in the old town (Altstadt) of Tübingen). The oldest building of the library at its current location (officially part of the town's architectural cultural heritage) was completed in 1912; the architect was Paul Bonatz. Large buildings were adjacently added in 1963 (the current main building), 1989 (Alte Waschhalle, renovated, formerly "old laundry hall" of the university) and 2003 (Ammerbau). The main library is located centrally in the university quarter of Tübingen, east of the old town, on Wilhelmstraße, near most of the university buildings of the arts, humanities and the social sciences faculties. A second location of the library is on the outskirts of Tübingen, at Morgenstelle, where the faculties of medicine and the natural sciences are located. In 1776 the library housed 15,000 items; by 1822, this number had increased to 60,000, by 1912 to 514,000 and by 1963 to 1.204 million. Today, the overall inventory is approximately 3.4 million items. In 2008, the budget was just over 9 million Euro, the number of staff was 128. Around 340,000 people, more than three times the population of the town of Tübingen, were registered as users (as usage is not only limited to enrolled students of the university (approx. 28,000), but anyone with an address in Baden-Württemberg can freely use it).

The University of Tübingen is one of eleven German Excellence Universities. The University of Tübingen is especially known as a centre for the study of plant biology, medicine, law, archeology, ancient cultures, philosophy, theology, and religious studies as well as more recently as center of excellence for artificial intelligence. The university's noted alumni include presidents, EU Commissioners, and judges of the Federal Constitutional Court. The university is associated with eleven Nobel laureates, especially in the fields of medicine and chemistry.

The Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN) is the common platform for systems neuroscience at the University of Tübingen in Germany. It was installed as a cluster of excellence within the framework of the Excellence Initiative in 2007/2008. About 90 scientists with their research groups – 21 of which are currently supported with excellence initiative funds – form the CIN's membership. The focus of their work is on basic research in systems neurobiology. Based on an interdisciplinary and integrative approach, it encompasses projects rooted in biology, medicine, physics, computer science and engineering as well as cognition and neurophilosophy.The namesake Werner Reichardt pioneered research into the fundamental principles of vision and information processing.

The Tübingen University Faculty of Law (German: Juristische Fakultät der Eberhardina Carolina), located in Tübingen, Germany, is one of the original four constituent faculties of Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Founded in 1477 by Eberhard I, Duke of Württemberg, it is one of the oldest law schools in Germany.

The Alter Botanischer Garten Tübingen (English: The Old Botanic Garden) is the former botanical garden of the University of Tübingen, now a municipal park. It is located at Am Stadtgraben 9, Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and open daily without charge.

The Faculty of Roman-Catholic Theology (German: Katholisch-Theologische Fakultät) is one of the seven faculties of the University of Tübingen located in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg in Germany. In 1812 the Faculty was founded as University of Ellwangen. The newly founded university was dissolved in 1817 and incorporated as a Faculty into the University of Tübingen.

The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics is located in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is one of 80 institutes in the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft). The institute is studying signal and information processing in the brain. We know that our brain is constantly processing a vast amount of sensory and intrinsic information by which our behavior is coordinated accordingly. How the brain actually achieves these tasks is less well understood, for example, how it perceives, recognizes, and learns new objects. The scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics aim to determine which signals and processes are responsible for creating a coherent percept of our environment and for eliciting the appropriate behavior. Scientists of three departments and seven research groups are working towards answering fundamental questions about processing in the brain, using different approaches and methods.

The Stiftskirche is a church located in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a late Gothic structure built by Peter von Koblenz in 1470. The stained glass windows were designed by Peter Hemmel of Andlau who also designed windows in Ulm, Augsburg, Nuremberg, Munich and Strasbourg. It is the central landmark of Tübingen and, along with the rest of the city, the Stiftskirche was one of the first to convert to Martin Luther's Protestant church. It maintains (and carefully defends) several "Roman Catholic" features, such as patron saints. Tower music is played from the church tower every Sunday.

The Steinlach is a river with a length of 26 km (16 mi) in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a tributary to the Neckar. It has its source in the Eckenbachgraben, a gap in the Swabian Alb mountain range. The source is on the territory of the town of Mössingen, on an elevation of 700 m (2,300 ft) above sea level. The Steinlach flows into a northerly direction. After taking up several streams outside of Mössingen, it flows through Ofterdingen, Nehren and Dußlingen to Tübingen, where it discharges into the Neckar.

The Collegium illustre in Tübingen was a ducal Court School from 1559 onwards, an academy between 1594 and 1596 and a Knight academy for young aristocrats in the Duchy of Württemberg between 1596 and 1688. After its dissolution in 1817 the building of Collegium illustre became the home of the newly founded Wilhelmsstift, a residence hall for Roman-Catholic theology students.

Hagelloch is an administrative district of Tübingen situated around three kilometres to the northwest of the town centre. Hagelloch is known beyond Tübingen for its picturesque setting near Schönbuch and the view across Tübingen.
