La Atunara

Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carmel in English) is a parish church in la Atunara, La Línea de la Concepción, Andalusia, Spain. The feast day is on 16 July known locally as the 'Festividad de la Virgen del Carmen'.

Playa de Santa Bárbara is a beach in the municipality of La Línea de la Concepción, in the Province of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain, located to the north of Gibraltar. It has a length of about 700 metres (2,300 ft) and average width of about 40 metres (130 ft). It is a busy beach promenade bounded by the city limits and south to the border with Gibraltar with Gibraltar Airport runway to the east and on the north by the Playa de Levante. In its vicinity are the remains of the Fort of Santa Barbara, an old fortification that participated in the Great Siege of Gibraltar in 1779. It has all the basic services required of an urban beach, daily waste collection season, toilets, showers and disabled access and presence of police and local rescue equipment.

The Batería de la Atunara (Atunara Battery) was an artillery battery in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain. Constructed by the Spanish military in 1735, it served as part of the line of defenses in the Gibraltar area. It was built by the Government of Spain in fear that the British Overseas Territory would spread over the isthmus. The battery was situated on the Playa de La Atunara, north of the Bay of Algeciras protecting the rear of the Lines of Contravallation of Gibraltar. The southern part area of Gibraltar was already protected, however the north lacked a strong artillery that could protect its position, which is why the military advised that half a league from the battery, a detachment with 4 to 24 cannons should be added. The building had two rectangular bastions for protection and were parallel to the ground near the beach, which was protected by a shoulder. The battery could house an infantry garrison of fifteen men and one officer, six gunners and a corporal, as well as four men and a corporal of the cavalry. By 1796, the battery had only ten men and two gunners. The Spanish fortifications around Gibraltar were completely destroyed in 1810 by Sir Charles Holloway with the supposed agreement of Spain to prevent them from falling into the hands of Napoleon's troops.

The bull ring in La Línea de la Concepción (Spanish: Plaza de Toros de la Línea de la Concepción), a town in the province of Cádiz at the southern edge of Spain, close to the British territory of Gibraltar, was opened in 1883.

Among the highlights are the traditions of the Virgin of Carmen exiting the port of La Atunara through the streets in a parade. La Línea de la Concepción (Spanish pronunciation: [la ˈlinea ðe la konθeβˈθjon]), often referred to simply as La Línea, is a municipality of Spain belonging to the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. The city lies on the sandy isthmus which is part of the eastern flank of the Bay of Gibraltar, and it limits with the Gibraltar–Spain border to the south. La Línea has close economic and social links with the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. It is part of the comarca of Campo de Gibraltar. The first dwellings, which date back to the 18th century, were behind the Spanish fortification lines drawn up during the Sieges of Gibraltar which took place during the 18c and 19c wars in Europe. The population of La Línea was a part of the municipality of San Roque until the community was decreed on 17 January 1870 to be a standalone municipality. The people of La Línea have traditionally found work in Gibraltar, from the days in the 18th century when Gibraltar was an important naval port. La Linea was, and still is, a supplier of fresh produce from its open and fertile land area as well as its population supplying workers, mainly for the Gibraltar Dockyard. This provision stopped with the total closure of the border by the Spanish government between 9 June 1969 and 15 December 1982 as a result of the dispute between Spain and Britain regarding the sovereignty of Gibraltar. The border was fully reopened on 5 February 1985.La Línea is a major supplier of fruit and vegetables to Gibraltar; other industries include the manufacture of cork, liquor, and fish paste. It also had an important military garrison with substantial fortifications and a port.

The Ruins of Fort St. Barbara (Spanish: Ruínas del Fuerte de Santa Bárbara) are the ruins of a fort located in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1994.

The Estadio Municipal de La Línea de la Concepción is a multi-purpose stadium located in La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz Province, Spain. It is currently used for football matches and is the home stadium of Real Balompédica Linense. On 15 October 1969, it hosted Spain's 6–0 win over Finland in the 1970 FIFA World Cup qualification. On 7 June 1984, Spain played a friendly against Yugoslavia at the ground, and lost 0–1. On 21 March 2018, Andorra played a friendly against Liechtenstein, in which the former won 1–0.

The Lines of Contravallation of Gibraltar (Spanish: Línea de Contravalación de Gibraltar or Línea de Gibraltar), known in English as the "Spanish Lines", were a set of fortifications built by the Spanish across the northern part of the isthmus linking Spain with Gibraltar. They later gave their name to the Spanish town of La Línea de la Concepción. The Lines were constructed after 1730 to establish a defensive barrier across the peninsula, with the aim of preventing any British incursions, and to serve as a base for fresh Spanish attempts to retake Gibraltar. They played an important role in the Great Siege of Gibraltar between 1779 and 1783 when they supported the unsuccessful French and Spanish assault on the British-held fortress. The siege was ended after the lines of contravallation were attacked by British and Dutch forces under the command of the Governor of Gibraltar, General Augustus Eliot. The attack caused the Spanish forces to retreat and abandon the fortifications and the combined British led forces virtually destroyed all the Spanish gun batteries and the enemy cannon and munitions either captured or destroyed. This attack is still commemorated to this day and is known as 'Sortie Day'. Only 25 years later they were effectively abandoned by the Spanish as the Peninsular War recast France as Spain's enemy and Britain as its ally. Stripped of guns, stores and garrison, which were sent elsewhere to bolster Spanish resistance against French forces, the Lines were demolished by the British in February 1810 with the permission of the Spanish as a French army approached. Although Napoleon had no intention of attacking Gibraltar, the British feared that the Lines could be used to support a French siege against the territory. The modern town of La Línea de la Concepción was subsequently established amidst the ruins of the fortifications, of which only a few fragmentary remains can be seen today.

The fifth siege of Gibraltar, mounted between August 1349 and March 1350, was a second attempt by King Alfonso XI of Castile to retake the fortified town of Gibraltar. It had been held by the Moors since 1333. The siege followed years of intermittent conflict between the Christian kingdoms of Spain and the Moorish Emirate of Granada, which was supported by the Marinid sultanate of Morocco. A series of Moorish defeats and reverses had left Gibraltar as a Moorish-held enclave within Castilian territory. Its geographical isolation was compensated for by the strength of its fortifications, which had been greatly improved since 1333. Alfonso brought an army of around 20,000 men, along with his mistress and their five illegitimate children, to dig in to the north of Gibraltar for a lengthy siege. In the New Year of 1350, however, bubonic plague – the Black Death – broke out in the Castilian camp. Alfonso refused to abandon the siege but fell victim to the plague on 27 March 1350, becoming the only monarch to die of the disease.

Parque Municipal Reina Sofía is a park in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain. The park was known as the Parque Princesa Sofía, named after Sofia of Greece, when she became queen the park was renamed to Reina in 1975. It has an approximate area of 17.86 hectares. El Piojito, is the street market that occurs every Wednesday in the Park. The Feria de La Línea is celebrated here every year. There are bunkers from the time of the Spanish Civil War, a skate park, a dog park, Playground and many trees including Dragon tree, Platanus × hispanica, Chorisia speciosa, Ceratonia siliqua, Morus alba, Acer negundo, Jacaranda mimosifolia, Melia azedarach, Olea europaea, Cupressus sempervirens, Pinus pinea.

Playa de Sobrevela is a beach in the municipality of La Línea de la Concepción, in the Province of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain. It has a length of about 2.0 kilometres (1.2 mi) and average width of about 150 metres (490 ft). It is a busy beach north of the city and bordered to the south with the Playa de La Atunara and to the north with the Playa de Torrenueva.
