St Thomas' Church, South Wigston

South Wigston High School is a coeducational secondary school in Leicester, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1938 to serve the community of South Wigston. The school serves students aged 11 to 16, mainly receiving pupils from Glen Hills, Fairfield and Parkland primary schools. It also attracts pupils from many areas of the city of Leicester and the county of Leicestershire. The school has a purpose-built sports centre and several sport fields. It is part of the Learning without Limits Academy Trust.Notable alumni include Sue Townsend (1946-1950), author; Louis Deacon (1991-1995), Rugby player for Leicester Tigers and England; and Brett Deacon (1992-1996), also a rugby player for Leicester Tigers and England. In 2016, BBC2 produced a documentary entitled The Secret Life of Sue Townsend, Aged 68 ¾. Much of the documentary was filmed at the school, and current students participated. In 2018 South Wigston High School's Progress 8 measure was positive at 0.06, which put the school in the top 50% of schools nationally for progress at GCSE level.In 2019, the school attracted attention for its long-standing policy whereby pupils' mobile phones, which are prohibited in school, would be returned to their parents after a voluntary £2 contribution to charity.

The station is on the Birmingham to Peterborough Line about 3.5 miles (6 km) south of Leicester, on the west - north loop of Wigston Junction. South Wigston station is owned by Network Rail and managed by East Midlands Railway (EMR) train operating company (TOC). Not all trains operating between Birmingham and Leicester stop here. Although the station is only served by CrossCountry, it is managed by East Midlands Railway as CrossCountry does not manage any stations. The station is unstaffed, so passengers buy the full range of tickets for travel from the guard on the train at no extra cost. Facilities at the station are limited, consisting of one "bus shelter" type shelters on each of the two platforms to protect passengers from the weather, as well as a timetable board, public address system and notice board.

The prison closed in June 2017, following an announcement at the end of 2016 that it would be replaced with a newly built category C adult prison. It has since been demolished and a new prison, HMP Fosse Way, was opened on the site in 2023.

It is a co-educational school for 3-16 year olds that specialises in Food, Business and Enterprise. The school was created on the site of the Mary Linwood Comprehensive School which closed in 1997. It opened in 2007 under the co-sponsorship of the Church of England and businessman Sir David Samworth, and incorporates a fully functioning church.The school became part of the Tudor Grange Academies Trust in January 2016.
