Jaywick Sands railway station

Crossways railway station was the upper terminus of the short-lived Jaywick Miniature Railway in Essex, England.Crossways had a single platform made of concrete (that at Jaywick Sands was of wood) which had bench seating and palisade fencing. The station had a water tank and a coal bunker. The tank would seem to have been moved some time after opening. Beside the station was a large sales office used by Tudor Estate Company which marketed Jaywick as a resort.The station closed along with the line in 1939, and unlike Jaywick Sands, did not reopen for the 1949 season. The site of the station is now beneath the front garden of a private residence. When foundations were excavated there for a new front wall, the old concrete platform was uncovered by accident.

Jaywick is a coastal village in the Tendring district of Essex, England, 2 miles (3 km) west of Clacton-on-Sea. It lies on the North Sea coast of England, 60 miles (97 km) from London and 17 miles (27 km) from Colchester. It was constructed in the 1930s as a holiday resort for Londoners, but has, over time, been officially named the most deprived area in the country. The land on which the village is built was originally fields and salt marsh and unsuitable for agriculture. It was purchased by the entrepreneur Frank Stedman in 1928 to build low cost, affordable holiday homes for working-class families, and became a popular holiday destination throughout the 1930s. After the Second World War, a shortage of housing meant the properties became permanently inhabited despite not being built for this purpose. Many holiday homes are now in a state of disrepair, and the local community have resisted demolition. Jaywick has significant problems with unemployment and is at risk of flooding, despite several attempts by the local council to transform the area.

Clacton Cliffs and Foreshore is a 26.1-hectare (64-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Clacton-on-Sea in Essex. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This site is described by Natural England as "one of the most important Pleistocene interglacial deposits in Britain". It dates to the warm Hoxnian Stage around 400,000 years ago. Flint tools found there in the early twentieth century have made it the type site for the Clactonian, a core-and-flake industry of homo erectus, although paleontologists disagree whether it is really a separate industry from the Acheulian.The site is in three separate areas. Two are on the shoreline footpath, but no geology is visible. The third is in the south-west corner of Clacton Golf Course, and there is no public access.

Jaywick Martello Tower is a renovated Martello tower at Jaywick, 2.7 miles (4.3 km) south-west of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. It now functions as an arts, heritage and community venue. It is a Grade II listed building and a scheduled monument.

Tendring Enterprise Studio School was a 14–19 mixed, secondary studio school and sixth form in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England. It was established in 2012 and sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust.The school closed in August 2016 following an announcement in June 2015. In a letter to parents, principal Ian Pearson said: “We now feel that the direction of the school has moved away from the original studio school concept and, consequently, the Department for Education has agreed to the request from our sponsor, the Academies Enterprise Trust, to close Tendring Enterprise Studio School in August 2016." Current Year Ten and Year Twelve pupils were able to finish their two-year courses at the school.

Bishops Park College was a comprehensive school located in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. It is now officially combined with Colbayns High School. The two have been renamed Clacton Coastal Academy.

Tendring District is a local government district in north-east Essex, England. Its council is based in Clacton-on-Sea, the largest town. Other towns are Brightlingsea, Harwich, Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze. The district extends from the River Stour in the north to River Colne in the south, with the coast to the east and the city of Colchester to the west. The area is sometimes referred to as the Tendring Peninsula. The neighbouring districts are Colchester and Babergh. The modern local government district was formed in 1974. The name Tendring comes from the ancient Tendring Hundred which was named after the small village of Tendring. During the English Civil War, the self-appointed Witchfinder General Matthew Hopkins carried out many trials throughout this and the surrounding area, especially in the town of Manningtree and village of Mistley on the River Stour.

F.C. Clacton is a football club based in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, England. The club are currently members of the Essex Senior League and play at the Rush Green Bowl.

Butlin's Clacton was a holiday camp located on Clacton-on-Sea in England. It opened in 1938 and closed in 1983.

Clacton-on-Sea Lifeboat Station is a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station located in the town of Clacton-on-Sea in the county of Essex. A lifeboat was first stationed here by the RNLI in 1878. The station currently operates two Inshore lifeboats, a B-class (Atlantic 85), David Porter MPS (B-863), and a D-class (IB1), Damar's Pride (D-849).
