The Diocese of Saint-Étienne (Latin: Dioecesis Sancti Stephani; French: Diocèse de Saint-Étienne) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in France, based in the city of Saint-Étienne in the Loire department. It was established on 26 December 1970 out of the Archdiocese of Lyon-Vienne and consists of the arrondissements of Saint-Étienne and Montbrison, thus constituting the greater part of the department of the Loire. The seat of the bishop is Saint-Étienne Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo (French: Cathédrale Saint-Charles-de-Borromé de Saint-Étienne).

École nationale supérieure des mines de Saint-Étienne, also called École des Mines de Saint-Étienne (literally meaning "Saint-Étienne school of mines") or simply Mines Saint-Étienne and commonly abbreviated EMSE is a prestigious French graduate engineering school (grandes écoles) training engineers and carrying out industry-oriented research. Its function is to support the development of its students and of companies through a range of courses and fields of research, from the initial training of generalist engineers ingénieurs civils des mines, to PhD teaching; from material sciences to micro-electronics via process engineering, mechanics, the environment, civil engineering, finance, computer science and health engineering.

Saint-Étienne (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃t‿etjɛn] ; Franco-Provencal: Sant-Etiève) is a city and the prefecture of the Loire département, in eastern-central France, in the Massif Central, 60 km (37 mi) southwest of Lyon, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.Saint-Étienne is the thirteenth most populated commune in France and the second most populated commune in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Its metropolis (métropole), Saint-Étienne Métropole, is the second most populous regional metropolis after Lyon. The commune is also at the heart of a vast metropolitan area with 406 868 inhabitants (2020), the eighteenth largest in France by population, comprising 105 communes. Its inhabitants are known as Stéphanois (masculine) and Stéphanoises (feminine). Long known as the French city of the "weapon, cycle and ribbon" and a major coal mining centre, Saint-Étienne is currently engaged in a vast urban renewal program aimed at leading the transition from the industrial city inherited from the 19th century to the "design capital" of the 21st century. Saint-Étienne Métropole is the métropole, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Saint-Étienne. It is located in the Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, central France. It was created in January 2018, replacing the previous Communauté urbaine Saint-Étienne Métropole. Its area is 723.5 km2. Its population was 404,607 in 2018, of which 173,089 in Saint-Étienne proper.

Saint-Étienne-Châteaucreux station (French: Gare de Saint-Étienne-Châteaucreux) is the main railway station in the town of Saint-Étienne. The station is situated in Châteaucreux, a little outside the centre of Saint-Étienne. The station is linked to the town centre by the town's second tramway line. It is situated at a junction of railway lines: Moret–Lyon (via Nevers and Roanne), and lines to Clermont-Ferrand and Le Puy-en-Velay.

The École nationale d'ingénieurs de Saint-Étienne (ÉNISE; National Engineering School of Saint-Étienne) is a French grande école which offers five-year course in engineering after the baccalauréat, in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Sensory Engineering. The school delivers the Diplôme d'Ingénieur in Mechanical Engineering and in Civil Engineering.ÉNISE is part of the "Groupe des Ecoles Nationales d'Ingénieurs", Groupe ENI - French for the Group of National Engineering Schools, which is a network of 4 French public engineering schools.It is also part of the University of Lyon, a state-run Higher Education & Research (HE & R) consortium - a federation of 18 Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) that federate their doctoral schools under one doctoral college representing a total of 120 000 students, 11 500 research lecturers and 230 public laboratories.

Manufrance was the trade name of Manufacture Francaise d'Armes et Cycles de St.Etienne ("French Arms and Cycle Factory of St. Etienne"), a French mail order company which was situated in the manufacturing town of St. Etienne since 1888.
