Montgomery County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 49,532. The county seat is Fonda. The county was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, an American Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 at the Battle of Quebec. Historically occupied by the Mohawk people, one of the original Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, the county was created in 1772 during the period of British colonial rule as Tryon County. In 1784, after the Americans gained independence in the War, it was renamed Montgomery County for one of the heroes.Montgomery County comprises the Amsterdam, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area. The county borders the north and south banks of the Mohawk River.

Randall is a populated place situated in Montgomery County, New York, United States. It is a hamlet in the northeastern part of the Town of Root on New York State Route 5S. Randall has an estimated elevation of 302 feet (92 m) above sea level.The area where Randall is now was originally named Yatesville. The name of Randall was adopted in 1863, at the suggestion of the first postmaster.

Mohawk is a town in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 3,844 at the 2010 census. The Town of Mohawk is on the northern border of the county, west of the City of Amsterdam. The county seat, Fonda, is located in Mohawk.

Caughnawaga Indian Village Site (also known as the Veeder site) is an archaeological site located just west of Fonda in Montgomery County, New York. It is the location of a 17th-century Mohawk nation village. One of the original Five Nations of the Iroquois League, or Haudenosaunee, the Mohawk lived west of Albany and occupied much of the Mohawk Valley. Other Iroquois nations were located west of them and south of the Great Lakes. The Mohawk had trading relationships with French colonists coming south from Quebec, with Dutch based in Albany, and with the later English who took over Dutch territory. Under pressure from the French in the late 17th century, some Mohawk moved to other areas. Some who had converted to Catholicism relocated to mission villages near Montreal and to the west along the St. Lawrence River. Because most of the Mohawk in the New York and Pennsylvania areas were allied with Great Britain during the American Revolutionary War, they were mostly forced out of New York when Britain ceded its territory in the colonies to the new United States. The Crown provided some land in compensation at what became the Six Nations Reserve of the Grand River, Ontario. This former village site was discovered in 1950 by Rev. Thomas Grassmann. It is the only Mohawk village site in the country to have been completely excavated for archeological studies.

Cayadutta Creek is a river in Fulton and Montgomery counties in the state of New York. It begins northwest of Gloversville and flows in a general southward direction before flowing into the Mohawk River in Fonda. The Indian meaning of Cayadutta is "rippling waters" or "shallow water running over stones". This stream has commercial and historical importance as the cities of Johnstown and Gloversville lie on its banks.

Fultonville Cemetery, also known as the Old Village Cemetery or the Protestant Dutch Church Burying Ground, is a cemetery in Fultonville, New York. The cemetery was originally the burying ground for the Protestant Dutch Church of Fultonville, but was transferred to the village in 1848. Many influential people in Fultonville's history are buried there. John H. Starin and Thomas R. Horton, United States House of Representatives|U.S. Representatives from New York, are interred there.

Fonda is a village in and the county seat of Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 668 at the 2020 census. The village is named after Douw Fonda, a Dutch-American settler who was killed and scalped in 1780, during a Mohawk raid in the Revolutionary War, when the tribe was allied with the British. The Village of Fonda is in the Town of Mohawk and is west of Amsterdam. In 1993, the Mohawk people bought land here to re-establish the Kanatsiohareke community formerly at this site. The Fonda Fair is an annual agricultural event that takes place in August.

Fultonville is a village in Montgomery County, New York, United States. The village is named after Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat.The Village of Fultonville is on the south bank of the Mohawk River in the Town of Glen. It is west of Amsterdam. In 2019, the area of the village that had been developed in the 19th and early 20th centuries was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Fultonville Historic District in recognition of its well-preserved architecture from its original settlement, the era centering around the development of the Erie Canal, and afterwards.

Fonda Speedway is a half-mile (0.8 km) dirt oval track located in Fonda, New York. The track hosted NASCAR Cup Series races in 1955 and 1966 to 1968. It is home to the Fonda 200. The track hosts Saturday night races with Modified, Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stock, and 4 Cylinder classes (as of 2021).

Sammonsville is a hamlet in the Town of Johnstown in Fulton County, New York, United States. Hometown of Rachel Hidde. She was elected Mayor in 2022. It is located by the southern town line on New York State Route 334 (NY 334).

Walter Butler Homestead, also known as Butlersbury, is a historic home located near Fonda in Montgomery County, New York. It is a 1+1⁄2-story, 40-foot-long, 30-foot-wide, 18th-century farmhouse. It has a limestone block foundation and cellar and attic. The dwelling was built by Lt. Walter Butler (ca. 1670–1760), father of John Butler (1728-1796).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
