Fox Cities Exhibition Center

The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, also called the PAC, is a performing arts center in downtown Appleton, Wisconsin, USA. The Center is the home of the Broadway Across America – Fox Cities series, the Boldt Arts Alive! series, the Spotlight series, the Amcor Education Series, and the Fox Valley Symphony. The Center has hosted the Wisconsin premieres of the Broadway blockbusters Disney’s The Lion King, The Producers, Wicked, and Jersey Boys, Billy Elliot, Les Misérables, and Kinky Boots. President George W. Bush delivered a speech at the Center during a campaign stop on March 30, 2004. In 1999, Aid Association for Lutherans, now Thrivent, contributed $10 million – the largest philanthropic corporate gift in the history of the Fox Cities – towards the building of the Center. The Center’s board of directors and volunteer fundraisers raised $45 million in private contributions from over 2,700 local residents and businesses. The Toronto-based Zeidler Partnership Architects was hired to design the Center and in May 2000, the O.J. Boldt Construction Company began construction on the Center. Artec, Inc. provided acoustical and theatrical consulting for the Center. The Center opened on November 25, 2002, 31 months after breaking ground.The Center is composed of: Thrivent Hall. The theater’s 40-foot (12 m) proscenium separates a 5,000-square-foot (460 m2) stage (Wisconsin’s second largest) from the 2,100-seat theater of which no seat is further than 108 feet (33 m) from the stage. The theater walls are finished in a red Veneciano plastering technique, which complements the red seats and brass accents. Kimberly-Clark Theater. The 4,160-square-foot (386 m2) flexible black-box space featuring retractable telescoping seating risers and a portable stage platform. This 450-seat theater is used for receptions, banquets, lectures, and intimate music and theatrical presentations. Founders Room. A private room located off the Dress Circle Lobby that accommodates meetings or receptions of up to 75 people. Entrance 21. A private lounge located on the Dress Circle level available for pre-performance and intermission small gatherings during events at the Center.

St. Mary's Parish is a Roman Catholic parish in Appleton, Wisconsin, USA, in the Diocese of Green Bay. Organized by Fr. J.N. Pfeiffer and the Irish Catholics of the area in 1859, St. Mary Parish was the first Roman Catholic church in Appleton. In 1860, a frame church was completed and dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus under the title “St. Mary of the Seven Dolors”. U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy is buried in the parish cemetery. Wisconsin State Assemblyman John Tracy and his family were attendees.

The College Avenue Historic District in Appleton, Wisconsin is a 7-acre (2.8 ha) historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. In 1982, it included 27 buildings deemed to contribute to the historic character of the area, one of which is the 12 story Zuelke Building, and one contributing object, the Soldiers Square Civil War Monument.The contributing buildings include: Zuelke Building, 103 W. College Avenue, a twelve-story gray granite building. Its interior is one of few intact original interiorsin the district. Gibson's Auto Exchange, at 211 W. College Avenue, Art Deco. Bissing Building, 203-205 W. College Avenue, with lions' heads in its roofline pediments. In 1982 two commercial establishments, Boot Hill and Brown Beam Tavern, occupied the building.

Valley New School (VNS) is a charter school in Appleton, Wisconsin operated by the Appleton Area School District. It has a capacity of 68 students in grades 7 through 12. The school operates through a project-based learning model, with the philosophy that 21st century skills and the process of learning is more important than learning a standard curriculum.

The Fox River Paper Company Historic District, now known as the Historic Fox River Mills, is a complex of paper mill buildings in Appleton, Wisconsin, United States, built from 1883 to 1915. The historic district includes the Romanesque-styled Ravine/Rag Mills, the Italianate-styled Lincoln Mill which originally milled flour, and the Italianate-styled Fox River Mill. The site is now used as apartments but also retains a functioning hydroelectric canal and privately owned generating station. This hydroelectric infrastructure continues a tradition of electricity from water power dating from the 1880s which makes the Lower Fox River the oldest hydroelectric generation region in the United States.

The Superintendent of Schools is Greg Hartjes and the current board president is Kay S. Eggert.The Appleton Area School District serves 16,281 students in 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools and 14 recognized charter schools. The district spends $9,403 per pupil and has 16 students for every full-time equivalent teacher. It has a grades 9-12 dropout rate of 2.1% as of 2016.

The Atlas Science Center, formerly Paper Discovery Center, is a museum and workshop center focused on papermaking in Appleton, Wisconsin, United States, where paper is an important local industry. Programs in the past have included hands-on work experience, tours, and general information on papermaking. There is a Science Summer Series for children at the center.The Paper Discovery Center opened in February 2005. It was first conceived in 1999 as part of the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame, Inc. The Kimberly-Clark Corporation donated its former Atlas Mill on the Fox River in Appleton to house the center.

St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Lutheran church in Appleton, Wisconsin, affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.The building was constructed in 1907. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 for its architectural significance.

The Vulcan Street Plant was the first Edison hydroelectric central station. The plant was built on the Fox River in Appleton, Wisconsin, and put into operation on September 30, 1882. According to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Vulcan Street plant is considered to be "the first hydro-electric central station to serve a system of private and commercial customers in North America". It is a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark, an IEEE milestone and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.The Vulcan Street Plant was housed in the Appleton Paper and Pulp Company building, which burned to the ground in 1891. A replica of the Vulcan Street Plant was later built on South Oneida Street.
