Saugatuck Pump House

The Saugatuck Gap Filler Annex (ADC ID: P-67C, NORAD ID: Z-67C, Z-34G) is a decommissioned radar installation that once served in the vast Cold War era Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) air defense system. Of the hundreds of SAGE radars, Saugatuck's is one of, perhaps, two that remain nearly completely intact. Located immediately across the Kalamazoo River from Saugatuck, Michigan, at the top of Mount Baldhead, a 230-foot dune on the shore of Lake Michigan, the annex was positioned to fill gaps in the coverage of long-range "heavy" radars sited further inland. The heavy radars searched for attacking Soviet bombers but were unable to detect aircraft flying low to the west of the dunes along Lake Michigan. Saugatuck's original AN/FPS-14 radar was commissioned in mid-1958 and operated until it was replaced with a more capable AN/FPS-18 in 1963. The FPS-18 radar served continuously until the site was decommissioned early in 1968. The city of Saugatuck purchased the building, tower, and radar equipment from the Air Force in 1969. Today, the installation appears very much as it did when operational with virtually all of the Cold War-era electronic equipment still in place. The Saugatuck Gap Filler Annex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022, and efforts are underway by a work group commissioned by the city of Saugatuck to stabilize the site and secure funding for further preservation and restoration.

Mount Baldhead, also known as Mt. Baldy and Radar Hill, is a tall dune about seventy miles north of the Indiana border on the west shore of Michigan in Allegan County. Mount Baldhead is a 230-foot sand dune located on a narrow strip of land between Lake Michigan and Kalamazoo River, directly across the river from downtown Saugatuck. It has an elevation of 804 feet (245 meters).A set of 302 stairs leads up the east side of the dune from a parking lot adjacent to Kalamazoo River to the Mount Baldhead Park at the top of the dune. A deck at the top of the stairs commands a view miles inland, with downtown Saugatuck below, immediately across the river, and Douglas just to the south. A number of trails lead down the wooded west side of the dune to the lake shore. Also at the top of the dune is the Saugatuck Gap Filler Annex, an amazingly intact Cold War radar installation appearing almost exactly as it did during the Cold War era. The Saugatuck gap-filler is believed to be the last of the hundreds of SAGE system radars in public hands with nearly all of its Cold War era equipment still in place. Mt. Baldy is also host to the very popular annual Mount Baldhead Challenge multi-terrain foot race which, of course, includes a jaunt up the stairs and contributes all proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club of Saugatuck/Douglas.

The Saugatuck Chain Ferry is a hand-cranked chain ferry that crosses the Kalamazoo River in Saugatuck, Michigan. It connects downtown Saugatuck to Mount Baldhead Park and Oval Beach. It is the only operational hand-cranked chain ferry in the Great Lakes region, and it is also believed to be the last such ferry operating in the United States.

Coral Gables (previously Leiendecker's Inn) is a historic restaurant and resort located at 220 Water Street in Saugatuck, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

All Saints Episcopal Church, built in 1872–1873, is an historic Carpenter Gothic church in Saugatuck, Michigan. On February 27, 1984, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Saugatuck is a city in Allegan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 865 at the 2020 census. The city is within Saugatuck Township, but is administratively autonomous. Originally a lumber town and port, Saugatuck, along with the adjacent city of Douglas, became a noted art colony and tourist destination in the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, Saugatuck was home to the famous Big Pavilion, a large dance hall that attracted bands and visitors from across the Midwest. The building was a popular destination on Lake Michigan from its construction in 1909 until it burned down on May 6, 1960.Today, tourists are drawn to the art galleries, harbor, marinas, scenery, unusual stores, the view from atop Mount Baldhead, and tourist attractions as well as Oval Beach on Lake Michigan, which enjoys a worldwide reputation. Nearby are Saugatuck Dunes State Park and Allegan State Game Area as is the city of Holland. Saugatuck is known as a popular vacation destination for the LGBT+ community with similar cultural attributes as Fire Island Pines and Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Kalamazoo Lake is a lake in Allegan County, Michigan. The Kalamazoo River connects Kalamazoo Lake with Lake Michigan, the river flows northwest through Otsego, Allegan and Saugatuck, into Lake Michigan. Kalamazoo Lake lies at an elevation of 581 feet (177 m) south of Saugatuck, Michigan.

The Warner P. Sutton House, also known as The Beeches or Beechwood Manor, is a private house located at 736 Pleasant Street in Saugatuck, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It now operates as the Beechwood Manor Inn Bed & Breakfast.

The Francis Metallic Surfboat is a boat, currently housed at 130 West Center Street in Douglas, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. It is one of two known surviving examples of its kind, one of the first type of coastal rescue craft used.

The Douglas Union School at 130 Center St. in Douglas, Michigan was built in 1866. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The school is one of Michigan's oldest extant multi-classroom union school buildings, constructed soon after the state law authorizing union schools was adopted. It currently serves as the Old School House History Center.

Singapore is a ghost town in Michigan, United States. It was a casualty of erosion after the surrounding woods were deforested—exacerbated by the need for lumber to rebuild several Midwestern cities and towns ravaged by fires in 1871. Its ruins now lie buried beneath the sand dunes of the Lake Michigan shoreline at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River in Saugatuck Township, near the cities of Saugatuck and Douglas in Allegan County. It was founded in 1836 by New York land speculator Oshea Wilder, who was hoping to build a port town to rival Chicago and Milwaukee. At its height, the town boasted of three mills, two hotels, several general stores, and a bank, and was home to Michigan's first schoolhouse. In total, the town consisted of 23 buildings and two sawmills.

Lake Shore Chapel is a historic chapel on Shorewood Road at the junction with Campbell Road in Douglas, Michigan. It was built in 1904 and added to the National Register in 1997.
