Newton Aycliffe

Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre is a multi-sport venue and leisure facility, located in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. The centre was opened in 1974 and has facilities for swimming, exercise, an indoor climbing wall, and a main sports hall for sports such as basketball, badminton and indoor football. The main hall is used as the home venue for British Basketball League team Durham Wildcats, who have been using the venue consistently since 2007 having previously been based in Spennymoor. The venue has a maximum capacity for 1,200 people, with bleacher-style seating on three sides of the court.

Greenfield Academy (formerly Greenfield Secondary School and then Greenfield Community College) is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located on the outskirts of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, England. It was opened in 1974 and was visited by Tony Blair on 30 June 2000 when it was awarded specialist status as an Arts and Science College. Greenfield provides a range of opportunities in and out of the classroom. The strength of the provision was noted by OFSTED, who rated the school as Requires Improvement in May 2017 and again in September 2019. Previously a foundation school administered by Durham County Council, in September 2023 Greenfield Community College converted to academy status and was renamed Greenfield Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Advance Learning Partnership.

Woodham Golf and Country Club (formerly known as Rushyford Golf Club) is a golf club in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, England. The course, set over 229 acres (0.93 km2) of parkland, opened in 1981, and was designed by James Hamilton-Stutt. The club's head professional is Ernie Wilson. Which was in administration but now been bought by Hall Construction Services and is now open. Newton Aycliffe Football Club is an English football club based in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. The club's ground is Moore Lane Sports Club, known as The Ashcourt Stadium for the 2024/25 season for sponsorship reasons. As of 2024, the club play in the highest level they have ever reached, the Northern Premier League Division One East.

Woodham Academy (simply referred to as Woodham, formerly Woodham Community Technology College and Woodham Comprehensive School) is an 11–16 mixed secondary school with academy status in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, England. Established in 1970 as a foundation school, it adopted its present name after becoming an academy in 2012. It is part of the Eden Learning Trust.

Heighington is a railway station on the Tees Valley Line, which runs between Bishop Auckland and Saltburn via Darlington. The station, situated 5 miles 62 chains (9.3 km) north-west of Darlington, serves the villages of Aycliffe and Heighington in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. The station is on the Bishop Line which is a community railway from Bishop Auckland to Darlington. It is somewhat unusual in that its platforms are staggered, sited either side of a level crossing. The station has kept its listed manual signal box (which supervises the aforementioned crossing, the connection into the Hitachi plant and the single line section south of here through to Darlington), but this had its semaphore signals replaced by colour lights when the connection into the Hitachi factory was installed and commissioned in November 2014.

School Aycliffe is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Great Aycliffe, in the County Durham district, in the ceremonial county of Durham, England. It is a short distance west of Newton Aycliffe, and east of Heighington. Its name derives from a Viking called Scula, who owned land in that part of South Durham. School Aycliffe is split into two by School Aycliffe Lane. On the north side is the original village. It is under the remit of Durham County Council (between 1974 and 2009, it was part of the borough of Sedgefield), and part of the parish of Great Aycliffe. The School Aycliffe Wetlands is a wildlife habitat situated on the northern edge of the village. On the southern side is a new housing estate, "The Chestnuts", under the remit of the Borough of Darlington and part of the parish of Heighington. The now-closed Aycliffe Hospital, a mental health facility, was located there before the estate was built. The father of comedian, writer and actor Mark Gatiss worked at the hospital, and it became the inspiration for a number of ideas used by Gatiss in the TV show The League Of Gentlemen.

UTC South Durham is a University Technical College located in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. It opened in 2016 and caters for 14–19 year olds with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and maths. It is located on the Aycliffe Business Park site, in a purpose-built new building.The UTC is sponsored by the University of Sunderland, Gestamp and Hitachi.

Aycliffe Stadium was a sports facility located in County Durham, England, on the southern edge of the Aycliffe Industrial Estate, which has Newton Aycliffe to the North and Aycliffe Village to the South. The stadium was originally used for greyhound racing and then speedway before stock car racing.
