On the way it passes through Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth, Stourbridge and Halesowen

Shoot Hill railway station was a station to the south of Ford, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1921 and closed in 1933. Although Official closure was on 29 February 1960, a 2-coach Stephenson Locomotive Society train ran through on 20 March.

Montford is a small village and parish in Shropshire, England. The village lies near the A5 road, on the north bank of the River Severn and is 3 miles north-west of the town of Shrewsbury. At the parish church of St Chad, Robert Waring Darwin, the father of the naturalist Charles Darwin, and Susannah Darwin, his mother, are buried in the churchyard, as is Charles' sister Susan. Indoors are two parish war memorials, a marble tablet commemorating the First World War dead, and a three-light east window commemorating those of the Second World War.The parish includes the larger villages of Montford Bridge and Shrawardine.

Whistones Priory was a priory in Worcestershire, England. The House of St. Mary Magdalene, at Whistones, of the order of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, located in Barbourne, Worcester, in the parish of Claines. It was founded by Walter de Cantilupe before 1255. In 1255 the nuns were granted 51 acres of arable land and 2 acres of meadow in Aston Episcopi, which as a result became known as White Ladies Aston. Additionally the tithes of the demesne lands at Northwick, Newland (Worcester), and lands in Claines. By 1291 the nuns had also acquired a portion of the chapel of Claines, granted by Bishop Giffard in 1283 and the tithes of the chapel of Aston Episcopi, or White Ladies' Aston. There is no trace of the actual surrender of Whistones at the time of the Dissolution. It probably took place in 1536 under the statute of that year granting the king the "smaller religious houses" whose annual value was under £200. Jane Burrell, the last prioress, received a pension of £5 10s. on her surrender, and enjoyed the same until 1553.

Shrawardine is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Montford, in the Shropshire district, in the ceremonial county of Shropshire, England. It is 5.9 miles (9.5 km) outside Shrewsbury. In 1931 the parish had a population of 176. On 1 April 1934 the parish was abolished and merged with Montford.

Cardeston is a small settlement in the civil parish of Alberbury with Cardeston, in Shropshire, England. It is near the A458 road and is 11 miles (18 km) west of Shrewsbury. It has no facilities, apart from a Church of England church. In 1881 the civil parish had a population of 275. On 25 March 1886 the parish was abolished to form "Alberbury with Cardeston".

Alberbury with Cardeston is a civil parish in Shropshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 645 (though in 2005 the parish expanded with the annexation of half of the former Wollaston parish), increasing to 1,011 at the 2011 Census. It includes the villages and hamlets of Alberbury, Cardeston, Little Shrawardine, Wollaston, Halfway House, Wattlesborough Heath and Rowton, and has Alberbury Castle and Wattlesborough Castle within its borders. To the west the parish borders Wales, whilst to the north it is bounded by the River Severn.

Nox is a hamlet in Shropshire, England, around a staggered junction on the B4386 road (historically a Roman Road) between the small villages of Cruckton and Yockleton, and south of Ford.Anciently in the parish of Pontesbury, Nox now lies mostly in the civil parish of Westbury; the parish boundaries of Westbury and of Pontesbury, which contains four of its houses, run through the hamlet. It is named after the Nock family, who owned what is now known as Nox House. It was initially recorded as an alehouse held by Richard Nock in 1653, that was later known as 'The Star and Ball' and was a regular meeting place of the Ford manorial court from 1674 to 1811. It was a butcher's shop in the 19th century before conversion to a private house. Nox also had a smithy, erected by John Nock in c.1668, that was 'still in business' in 1968.

Yockleton is a village in Shropshire, England. Yockleton is west of the county town of Shrewsbury, on the B4386 road to Montgomery and near the River Severn. The population as taken at the 2011 census can be found under Westbury. Yockleton is near to Ford (to its north) and Westbury (to its west), and lies in the Westbury civil parish; the hamlets of Edge and Farley (both in Pontesbury parish) lie due south of the village, and Nox is to the east.

Preston Montford, or Preston Montford Hall, is a historic house 5 miles (8 km) west of Shrewsbury in England that is used as a field studies centre by Field Studies Council. The large eighteenth-century house with later additions is set in 12 hectares (30 acres) of grassland and woodland on the banks of the River Severn. It lies within easy reach of the meres and mosses landscape of north Shropshire, as well as the varied landscapes of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a grade II* listed building, indicating a particularly important building of more than special interest.Opened as a field studies centre in 1957, Preston Montford is visited by students of biology and geography, and by school groups. Specialist interest groups regularly visit the centre. The Open University ran its 1-week undergraduate residential course SXR216 Environmental science in the field at the centre from 2003-2011. It has developed partnerships with Manchester Metropolitan University and the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland to tackle the decline in skills of field taxonomy through the MSc in 'Biological Recording and Ecological Surveying'. Walter Clopton Wingfield (1833-1912), later known as the pioneer of lawn tennis, grew up at Preston Montford while his father Clopton Lewis Wingfield (died 1846) lived there.
