North Shropshire was a rural district in Shropshire, England from 1967 to 1974. It was formed in 1967 by a merger of most of the Ellesmere Rural District, Wem Rural District, along with the urban districts of Ellesmere, Wem and Whitchurch, and part of Whittington from Oswestry Rural District. The district survived until 1974 when it was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972 to form part of a new, larger North Shropshire district.

North Shropshire was a local government district in Shropshire, England from 1974 to 2009. The district council was based at Edinburgh House in Wem. Other settlements included the towns of Ellesmere, Market Drayton and Whitchurch, as well as the large villages of Shawbury and Baschurch. The district bordered onto Wales, Cheshire and Staffordshire as well as the Shropshire districts of Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Atcham and the unitary Telford and Wrekin.

Wem Town Hall is a building in the market-town of Wem in Shropshire, England. It is currently used as a venue for music and dance concerts, films, stage shows and exhibitions.The interior of the building was completely destroyed by fire on 19 November 1995. The incident became famous as a result of a black-and-white photo taken by amateur photographer Tony O'Rahilly, which appeared to depict the image of a young girl in the doorway of the burning building.

Shawbury United Football Club are a football club originally from Shawbury, Shropshire, but currently based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. They were established in 1992. They are members of the Midland League Division One, having been relegated from the Midland Football League Premier Division at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Wem is a market town in Shropshire, England, 9 miles (14 km) north of Shrewsbury and 9 miles (14 km) south of Whitchurch. The name of the town is derived from the Old English wamm, meaning a marsh, as marshy land exists in the area of the town. Over time, this form evolved into "Wem".As a caput of a barony and the centre of a large manor and parish Wem was a centre for justice and local government for centuries, and was the headquarters of the North Shropshire District Council until Shropshire became a unitary authority. From the 12th century revisions to the hundreds of Shropshire, Wem was within the North Division of Bradford Hundred until the end of the 19th century.According to Professor Richard Hoyle, Chairman of Victoria County History Shropshire, "Wem is an archetypal medieval-planned castle town and as such, can take its place alongside the best examples in England"

Thomas Adams School is a coeducational secondary school, boarding school and sixth form in Wem, Shropshire, England. The school takes pupils from ages 11–18 and currently has just over 1,400 on roll. The school has the Schools for Health Award and in 2002 obtained Media Arts College status.

Tilley is a small village to the south of and almost merged with Wem in North Shropshire. Population information at the 2011 census is shown under Wem Rural. A hamlet, Tilley Green, lies to its southeast at grid reference SJ511273. The village or hamlet comprises around 20 dwellings and of these up to 10 are designated listed buildings including Tilley Manor, Tilley Farm and Brook Cottage; all three are timber-framed and have their origins in the Medieval and early Post Medieval periods; Tilley Farm and Manor are of the classic cross-wing vernacular and clearly very early in date, probably 13th/14th century. Despite the wealth of medieval and post-medieval timber-framed buildings, Tilley does not possess a church. However, it is probable that such a building may have existed somewhere within the centre of the village, probably close to the manor house.The hamlet appears to be divided into two clusters; the main settlement centred on the medieval buildings and to the east, a peripheral area lying close to the railway which comprise buildings that date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Between 2014 and 2018 the people of the village obtained a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to undertake a dendrochronology project which investigated up to 35 historic timber-framed buildings including 11 Listed Buildings. The results of this survey were published in a book - The Tilley Timber Project (2018).

St Mary's Church is in the village of Edstaston, in the civil parish of Wem Rural, Shropshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Wem and Whitchurch, the archdeaconry of Salop, and the diocese of Lichfield. Its benefice is united with those of St Chad, Prees, Holy Emmanuel, Fauls, Christ Church, Tilstock, and St Mary, Whixall. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. It is described as "one of the most complete Romanesque buildings in Shropshire".

Wem Rural is a large civil parish in Shropshire, England that encircles, but does not include, the market town of Wem (a separate parish formally known as "Wem Urban"). It includes the villages of Aston and Barkers Green (east of Wem), Coton, Edstaston, Quina Brook and Pepperstreet (north of Wem), Horton, Newtown, Wolverley and Northwood (northwest of Wem) and Tilley (south of Wem). Prees railway station is also in the parish. The population of the Civil Parish at the 2011 census was 1,659.The parish has three electoral wards - Edstaston ward to the north and north east of Wem, Newtown ward to the north and north west of Wem and the confusingly named Wem ward to the west, south and east of Wem. The parish was formed in 1900 from the outer part of the parish of Wem, the inner part of which became the parish of Wem Urban in the Wem urban district. Wem Rural was part of Wem Rural District until 1967, when the rural district was abolished and became part of North Shropshire Rural District. From 1974 to 2009 it was part of North Shropshire district.
