Gorran Churchtown is situated approximately nine miles (14 km) south-southwest of St Austell; Gorran Haven, the largest settlement in the parish, is a mile to the east. Vault Beach (or Bow Beach) is situated on the south coast of Cornwall, England, UK, near Gorran Haven. The beach consists mainly of shingle but does have some sand at low tide. Vault Beach faces southeast onto the English Channel and lies between Cadythew Rocks in the north and Dodman Point at the southern end. Car parking is available in Gorran Haven and Lamledra which are both some distance from the beach. Toilet facilities are available at Gorran Haven. The southern end of the beach tends to attract naturists. Vault beach was named Vault as during the wind powered days of sail should a ship or boat mess up its navigation and flounder upon the Dodman (Deadman) the bodies would normally wash up on this stretch of beach. The Dodman was quite easy to mistake with Lands End and with the wrong winds could end up with disastrous consequences.

Lamledra House is a house near Gorran Haven in Cornwall, England, UK. It is situated immediately above Vault Beach. It was built in 1911 by the barrister, John Fischer Williams, and extended in the 1920s. It was formerly the vacation residence of the Oxford academics Herbert and Jenifer Hart, who inherited the house with her sister from their father.

Dodman Point (Cornish: Penn Ardh) near Mevagissey is the highest headland on the south Cornwall coast, measuring 374 feet (114 m). It is also known by its earlier names of the Deadman and Deadman's Point. It hosts the remains of an Iron Age promontory fort, and at its seaward end is "Parson Martin's Cross" – a large granite cross erected in 1896 to encourage those involved in Christian service, and which aids navigation around the headland. Dodman Point is mentioned in the shanty Spanish Ladies. To its north-east and in its lee is the small anchorage and sand beach of Gorran Haven. Below the large stone cross, there is a way down to the bottom of the small cliffs and there is some climbing there on the faces – mainly bouldering as it is rarely scaled so there are no fixed anchor points.

Portmellon (Cornish: Porthmelin) is a coastal settlement in south Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is one mile south of Mevagissey and six miles south of St Austell.Portmellon lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park. The sandy beach at Portmellon is safe for bathing and there is a public slipway for launching boats. Portmellon has a long history of building boats with many wooden–hulled boats leaving the workshop over the years, including Denis Hame's 20-footer named Vivian. The sandy beach is set in a small cove, a 20-minute walk from Mevagissey. The beach is around 150 metres long but is completely covered at high tide. At low tide rock pools are exposed and on some occasions seals can be seen swimming off the beach or resting on the rocks.

Veryan Bay along the southern coast of Cornwall, England, is a curving, natural bay that stretches for 4.6 miles in width and recedes by up to 1.5 miles. It lies between the Peneare Head to the west and Dodman Point at the east. The shoreline varies in height from 20 to 200 feet, with indentations forming bights. Along the bay is Porthluney Cove, which is overlooked by Caerhays Castle.
