Turicum was a Gallo-Roman settlement at the lower end of Lake Zurich, and precursor of the city of Zürich. It was situated within the Roman province of Gallia Belgica (from AD 90 Germania Superior) and near the border to the province of Raetia; there was a tax-collecting point for goods traffic on the waterway Walensee–Obersee-Zürichsee–Limmat–Aare–Rhine.

The Lindenhof (lit.: courtyard of the lime) is a moraine hill and a public square in the historic center of Zürich, Switzerland. It is the site of the Roman and Carolingian era Kaiserpfalz around which the city has historically grown. The hilltop area—including its prehistoric, Roman, and medieval remains—is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

The Hotel Widder is a hotel and restaurant in Zurich, Switzerland. Established in 1995, it is located on Rennweg, in Niederdorf, in the city's Altstadt district. The hotel's 49 rooms are spread across nine medieval townhouses, the oldest of which dates to the 13th century. Widder is German for ram, with the name being chosen for the hotel because one of the townhouses was the guildhouse for a master butcher. In 2003, when the hotel had its original eight townhouses and 42 rooms, it was owned by Swiss bank UBS. UBS sold the property to insurance company Swiss Life in 2018, while the hotel business is part of The Living Circle group, which is based in Bleicherweg in Zurich. The hotel underwent a large renovation in 2009 and in 2016, the latter to a design by architect Tilla Theus. Its two restaurants are named Boucherie AuGust and the Widder Restaurant.

The Zürich James Joyce Foundation (ZJJF; German: Zürcher James Joyce-Stiftung) cultivates the memory of the life and work of the Irish writer James Joyce as well as his special relationship with Zürich, where he spent decisive years of his life, died in 1941 and was buried.The Zürich James Joyce Foundation, headed by the eminent Swiss Joycean scholar Fritz Senn and supervised by curators Ruth Frehner and Ursula Zeller, is an archive, documentation center, specialized library, literary museum, as well as a meeting place for researchers and reading groups, and has established itself as an essential European Joyce research site through numerous scholarly activities.Thanks to its extensive collection of thematic materials and numerous scholarly events held under its auspices, the Foundation has established itself as one of the leading European centers for the study of the biography and creative heritage of the classic of modernist literature.

The Lindenhof, in the old town of Zürich, Switzerland, is the historical site of the Roman castle, and the later Carolingian Kaiserpfalz. It is situated on Lindenhof hill, on the left side of the Limmat at the Schipfe.In 1747, a second-century Roman tombstone was discovered at the site, bearing the oldest attestation of Turīcum, the Roman-era name of Zürich, as STA[tio] TURIC[ensis], at the time a tax-collection point. The castle remained intact during the early phase of Alemannic immigration in between the fifth and sixth centuries, but was derelict by the ninth century, when it was rebuilt as a residence for Louis the German. It later became dilapidated and used as a source of building stone by the 13th century. The Lindenhof remained a place of civil assembly into modern times. In 1798, the citizens of Zürich swore the oath to the constitution of the Helvetic Republic on the Lindenhof. In 1851, the Modestia cum Libertate Masonic Lodge (established in 1771) bought the residence Zum Paradies and built a masonic building on the southern side of the square. In the early 21st century, it serves as a recreational space, a green oasis, and automobile-free zone in the old historic city centre. Its elevated position makes it a popular location for tourists to get an overview of the geography of old Zürich. In April, during the local holiday of Sechseläuten, the Lindenhof serves as the base of operations for whichever is the "guest canton" for that year.

The Hedwig Fountain (German: Hedwigbrunnen) or Lindenhof Fountain is a fountain in the Lindenhof hill in Zürich, Switzerland, which was built in 1912. The helmeted statue of a woman beside the fountain was made by Gustav Siber. It was built to honor the Zürich women, allegedly led by Hedwig ab Burghalden, who defended the city by duping the army of Duke Albert I of Germany during the siege of Zürich in 1292. They dressed in full battle gear in order to trick the Habsburg army into thinking that the city was well protected while their men were busy campaigning at Winterthur. The source of its water comes from the Limmat river.

Waisenhaus (also Amthaus I) is the last remaining building of the Oetenbach nunnery, and houses today the police department of the city of Zürich in Switzerland.

Augustinerkloster was one of the eight monasteries within the medieval city of Zürich in Switzerland. It was founded around 1270 as an Augustinian Order priory on the site of the present Augustinerkirche Zürich on Münzplatz, and was abolished in 1524.

Schipfe is a residential district in Zürich, Switzerland, located on the eastern slope of the Lindenhof, one of the oldest parts of the Helvetii Oppidum Zürich-Lindenhof, by the river Limmat. Historians and the Weinplatz suggest that the district was part of the former civilian harbour of the Celtic-Roman Turicum. The Swiss studio of famous international artist, Conor Mccreedy is based here in a former Roman townhouse.

Oetenbach was a Dominican nunnery in the medieval municipality of Zürich in Switzerland. Oetenbach was named after the small stream of the same name at its first location at Zürichhorn, situated outside of the European Middle Ages town walls, but moved to the present Sihlbühl. The nunnery was abolished on occasion of the Reformation in Zürich – the Waisenhaus building is its only remained structure, now the headquarters of Stadtpolizei Zürich.

Rathausbrücke is a pedestrian bridge which crosses the river Limmat in Zürich, Switzerland. It is colloquially named Gmüesbrugg (Swiss German for "vegetable bridge"), and is a popular public square connecting Limmatquai, and the Weinplatz plaza and the historical Schipfe quarter.

On 16 April 1986 Günther Tschanun opened fire in his workplace in Zürich, Switzerland, killing four people and seriously injuring one. The shooting came after difficulties and tensions in the building authority, where Tschanun was head. Tschanun escaped and was on the run for several weeks after the shooting, before he was caught in France. It was described by the Tages-Anzeiger as "one of the worst crimes in post-war Swiss history".Tschanun was initially sentenced to 17 years in prison in 1988 for four counts of intentional homicide. The case was sent to the supreme court, and in 1990 the sentence was overturned. Tschanun was instead sentenced to 20 years and found guilty of murder, and released on parole in 2000. He was issued a new name – Claudio Trentinaglia – which was only revealed to the public after he died in a bicycle accident in 2015.
