AP or in full Artesis Plantijn University College Antwerp (Dutch: Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool Antwerpen), founded in 1995, is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the city of Antwerp (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants) and created as a merger between Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen and Plantijn Hogeschool. In the 2013–2014 academic year, the university college started with 22 bachelor programs, 6 art courses and more than 8,500 students. On 12 December 2012, Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool Antwerp was announced as the new name for the Antwerp merger.[1] [2] The Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool is also a member of AUHA, the Association University and Colleges Antwerp.

The Violieren (wallflower or gillyflower) was a chamber of rhetoric that dates back to the 15th century in Antwerp, when it was a social drama society with close links to the Guild of Saint Luke. It was one of three drama guilds in the city, the other two being the Goudbloem and the Olyftack. In 1660 the Violieren merged with former rival Olyftack, and in 1762 the society was dissolved altogether.

De Olijftak (The Olive Branch), or in full Gulde van den Heyligen Geest die men noempt den Olijftak (Confraternity of the Holy Spirit called the Olive Branch) was a chamber of rhetoric that dates back to the early 16th century in Antwerp, when it was a social drama society drawing its membership primarily from merchants and tradesmen. In 1660 it merged with its former rival the Violieren (which was more closely associated with artists and intellectuals), and in 1762 the society was dissolved altogether.

The Goudbloem (marigold) was a chamber of rhetoric, a society to promote poetry and drama, that dated back to the 15th century in Antwerp. It was one of three drama guilds in the city, the other two being the Violieren and the Olyftack. It ceased to exist around 1654. The Violieren and Olyftack merged in 1660, and survived until 1762.

St. Charles Borromeo Church (Dutch: Sint-Carolus Borromeuskerk) is a church in central Antwerp, located on the Hendrik Conscience square. It was built in 1615-1621 as the Jesuit church of Antwerp, which was closed in 1773. It was rededicated in 1779 to Saint Charles Borromeo. The church was formerly known for 39 ceiling pieces by Rubens that were lost in a fire when lightning struck the church on 18 July 1718.

The Letterenhuis ("House of Literature") is a Belgian non-profit organization located in Antwerp. The Letterenhuis collects and archives information of Flemish writers and artists, and portraits concerning Flemish culture as from 1750. The Letterenhuis fulfills two tasks: on the one hand it is an archiving and documentation centre and on the other hand it is a museum. The most interesting part of its collection are the manuscripts of famous Belgian authors like Hendrik Conscience, Willem Elsschot and the contemporary writer Tom Lanoye. In 2012 the Letterenhuis featured a theme exhibition about Louis Paul Boon to honor his one hundredth birth year.

The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (Dutch: Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen) is an art academy located in Antwerp, Belgium. It is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. It was founded in 1663 by David Teniers the Younger, painter to the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm and Don Juan of Austria. Teniers was master of the Guild of St Luke—which embraced arts and some handicrafts—and petitioned Philip IV of Spain, then master of the Spanish Netherlands, to grant a royal charter to establish a Fine Arts Academy in Antwerp. It houses the Antwerp Fashion Academy.

On 11 May 2006, a shooting occurred in the city centre of Antwerp. The gunman, 18-year-old student Hans Van Themsche, killed two people and severely wounded another, before being shot and incapacitated by a police officer. Van Themsche (born 7 February 1988, in Wilrijk, Antwerp, Flemish Region of Belgium) was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008. The homicide received widespread media attention and drew major public and political attention to responsibilities regarding political presentation of immigrant and racial issues and its possible effects on individuals.

The Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library (Dutch: Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience) is the repository library of the city of Antwerp. It is named after the Flemish writer Hendrik Conscience, whose statue adorns the library. The library conserves books and magazines to keep them available permanently. The history of the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library, which was called the City Library until 2008, goes back to 1481. The collection contains more than one million books. The primary collection areas are Dutch literature, history of the Netherlands, early printed books (pre-1830), Flemish folk culture, art in the Netherlands, and works about Antwerp ("Antverpiensia").

The bourse of Antwerp was the world's first purpose-built commodity exchange. Falling into disuse in the 17th century, from 1872 until 1997 the restored building housed the Antwerp Stock Exchange. After further restoration, the building is now part of an events venue that goes by the English name Antwerp Trade Fair. The Royal Exchange, London was modelled on the Antwerp Exchange.

The Boerentoren (English: "Farmer's Tower"; officially the KBC Tower, originally the Torengebouw van Antwerpen) is a historic tall building in Antwerp, Belgium. Constructed between 1929 and 1932 and originally 87.5 m (287 ft) high, it remained the tallest building and the second tallest structure of any kind in the city (after the gothic Cathedral of Our Lady) until 2019, when the Antwerp Tower surpassed it with a height of 100.7 m (330 ft). At the time of construction it was the second tallest building in Europe by roof height (after Telefónica Building). Designed in Art-deco style, the Boerentoren is one of Europe's very first tall buildings. The Boerentoren remained the tallest in Belgium until 1960, and is currently ranked 21st tallest in the country. In 1954 the tower was extended with an antenna which reached to a total height of 112.5 m (369 ft). In 1976, the roof of the tower was raised by 8.3 m (27 ft), and the current roof height is therefore 95.8 m (314 ft). The building was designed by Jan Van Hoenacker. In 2020, the company Katoen Natie acquired the tower with the intention of turning it into a cultural institution, while The Phoebus Foundation chancellery will be responsible for organizing permanent and temporary exhibitions with works from its collection, alongside public and private collaborations.

Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery is a Belgian art gallery for abstract art in Antwerp. It was founded in 2012 by Yoeri Vanlangendonck and Brecht Callewaert in the Wolstraat in Antwerp. In 2013 a second space opened in the same street. In 2017, the gallery expanded with a 17th-century building in the Antwerp university area, renovated by architects Rolies + Dubois and opened by Minister of Culture Sven Gatz and university Rector Herman Van Goethem.Artists such as Guy Vandenbranden, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Pol Bury, Michel Seuphor, Jan Dries, Jan Cox, Mark Verstockt and Gilbert Swimberghe exhibited at the gallery. In addition to exhibiting the work of abstract artists from the fifties and sixties, the gallery also represents the estate of Guy Vandenbranden and manages its artists' archive. The gallery also collaborates with contemporary artists such as Koen van den Broek, Guillaume Bijl, Timothy Segers, Jef Meyer and Boy & Erik Stappaerts.
