The 2009 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held May 7–10 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the 36th Players Championship. Henrik Stenson shot a bogey-free 66 in the final round to win at 276 (−12), four strokes ahead of Ian Poulter. Alex Čejka led by five strokes after the third round, but went out in 42 and finished in a tie for ninth. Stenson was the third European to win the title, after Sergio García the previous year and Sandy Lyle in 1987. Due to 83 players making the halfway cut (top 70 and ties), a second cut was initiated after the third round. Defending champion Sergio García finished ten strokes back, in a tie for 22nd place.

The 1989 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held March 16–19 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the sixteenth Players Championship. In gusty conditions, Tom Kite won the title at 279 (−9), one stroke ahead of runner-up Chip Beck.Defending champion Mark McCumber finished four strokes back, in a tie for sixth place.

The 2012 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held May 10–13 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the 39th Players Championship and was won by Matt Kuchar, two strokes ahead of four runners-up.Defending champion K. J. Choi missed the 36-hole cut by seven strokes.

The 1990 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held March 15–18 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the seventeenth Players Championship. Jodie Mudd won the title at 278 (−10), one stroke ahead of runner-up Mark Calcavecchia.Defending champion Tom Kite finished seven strokes back, in a tie for fifth place.

The 2018 Players Championship was a professional golf tournament, held from May 10–13 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The flagship event of the PGA Tour, this was the 45th edition of The Players Championship, and the 37th edition held at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The tournament was won by Webb Simpson, four strokes ahead of three runners-up.Defending champion Kim Si-woo opened with a five-under 67, but finished 15 strokes back, tied for 63rd place. This was the twelfth consecutive Players Championship held in May; it returned to March in 2019.

The 1994 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held March 24–27 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the 21st Players Championship. Greg Norman set the scoring record of 264 (−24) at the Stadium Course and finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Fuzzy Zoeller. Norman opened with 63 and followed with three rounds at 67 to set the 36-hole (130) and 54-hole (197) scoring records as well.Nick Price had set the mark the previous year at 270 (−18), three better than Mark McCumber's 273 in 1988 (equaled by Davis Love III in 1992). Defending champion Nick Price missed the 36-hole cut by five strokes.

The 2014 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held May 8–11 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the 41st Players Championship. Martin Kaymer opened with a 63, led after each round, and won his first Players, one stroke ahead of runner-up Jim Furyk. It was the first to feature an eight-figure purse, with a winner's share of $1.8 million. With defending champion and world number one Tiger Woods out of competition due to back surgery in late March, four entered this Players Championship with an opportunity to ascend to the top of the world rankings. World number two Adam Scott needed a 16th-place finish, third-ranked Henrik Stenson a top-six finish, number four Bubba Watson a solo runner-up, and fifth-ranked Matt Kuchar a win. They finished at T38, T34, T48, and T17, respectively, and Woods remained number one.Due to 82 players making the halfway cut (top 70 and ties), a second cut was initiated after the third round. This was the first year for the new playoff format, a three-hole aggregate beginning on the 16th hole, which was not necessary. After a 90-minute rain delay late in the final round, Kaymer finished with a par in near-darkness. If he had bogeyed the final hole, the playoff would have begun on Monday morning. Kaymer was the fourth European to win the Players, following Sandy Lyle, Sergio García, and Henrik Stenson. A month later he won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and became the fourth to win the Players and a major in the same calendar year, joining Jack Nicklaus (1978, Open), Hal Sutton (1983, PGA), and Woods (2001, Masters).

The 2021 Players Championship was the 48th Players Championship and was played March 11–14 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. It was the fortieth edition held at the Stadium Course; the 2020 tournament was canceled after the first round in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Justin Thomas shot a four-under 68 in the final round for 274 (−14) to win his first Players, one stroke ahead of runner-up Lee Westwood, the 54-hole leader. Defending champion Rory McIlroy (2019) missed the 36-hole cut.

The 1988 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held March 24–27 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the fifteenth Players Championship and the first without "Tournament" in the title.Local resident Mark McCumber opened with 65 and won with 273 (−15), four strokes ahead of runner-up Mike Reid. McCumber's 72-hole score at the Stadium Course set a record; it was equaled in 1992 and broken in 1993. Jay Haas was disqualified on Thursday after playing with a bent putter. Davis Love III had a similar occurrence on Friday, while Curtis Strange reported that he signed an incorrect scorecard. (Strange won the next two U.S. Opens.) Weather delays on Saturday caused the leaders to complete only a few holes of the third round; play was resumed early on Sunday morning.Defending champion Sandy Lyle missed the 36-hole cut by six strokes, and the purse was increased 25% this year to $1.25 million.

The Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass (TPC at Sawgrass) is a golf course in the southeastern United States, located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, southeast of Jacksonville. Opened 42 years ago in the autumn of 1980, it was the first of several Tournament Players Clubs to be built. It is home to the PGA Tour headquarters and hosts The Players Championship, one of the PGA Tour's signature events, now held in March. Paul and Jerome Fletcher negotiated a deal with the PGA Tour, which included the donation of 415 acres (1.68 km2) for one dollar (the original check is prominently displayed in the clubhouse). The TPC at Sawgrass is situated in Ponte Vedra Beach's Sawgrass development. It has two individual courses, the Stadium Course and the Valley Course. The Stadium Course was designed by noted golf course architects Pete and Alice Dye, and is known as one of the most difficult golf courses in the world. Constructed specifically to host The Players Championship, it employs a distinctive "stadium" concept: like in other sports, fans at the TPC sit in "stands" made of raised mounds of grass. It is known for its signature hole, the par-3, 137-yard (125 m) 17th, known as the "Island Green," one of golf's most recognizable and difficult holes. Tim Clark won with a 67 on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory, one stroke ahead of Robert Allenby.Two unusual events occurred during this Players Championship. For the first time in tournament history, a spectator was arrested and forcibly removed from the course. An intoxicated fan who was screaming and being disruptive refused to listen to course officials, who then called deputies. The man resisted arrest and was tasered. In a separate incident, hours after the first round had ended a car was discovered parked on the 8th green with two occupants inside and the motor running. When the driver refused to follow instructions, law enforcement was called. The green was not damaged and the couple was issued trespass warnings, then escorted off the course.Defending champion Henrik Stenson missed the 36-hole cut by a stroke.

The 1991 Players Championship was a golf tournament in Florida on the PGA Tour, held March 28–31 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, southeast of Jacksonville. It was the eighteenth Players Championship. Steve Elkington birdied the final hole to win the title at 276 (−12), one stroke ahead of runner-up Fuzzy Zoeller. Elkington won a second Players six years later in 1997. Defending champion Jodie Mudd missed the 36-hole cut by five strokes.
