Big Falls of the Missisquoi Natural Area is an Orleans County, Vermont recreation area for swimming, fishing, and sight-seeing. The area also has a lot of old-growth hemlock plants and pine trees. Currently an undeveloped site near the small rural town of Troy, the falls is composed of 16 acres (6.5 ha) on both sides of the Missisquoi River, 2,400 feet (730 m) of which is frontage. Classified as a Vermont Natural Area protected site, the area is managed by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.Originating from its headwaters in Lowell, the falls have an estimated 100-foot (30 m) drop. The somewhat isolated acreage has always been a popular picnic and recreation spot for local residents. In the 1950s, the water rights were held by an out-of-state entity, when purchased by the Vermont Citizens Utilities Company, following an assessment by the United States Army Corps of Engineers that the falls held potential as a substantive source of output from an on-site hydroelectric plant. The area was subsequently deeded back to the state in 1996 after the utilities company abandoned its plans.

North Troy is a village in the town of Troy, Orleans County, Vermont, United States. The population was 631 at the 2020 census. It is located 1.3 miles (2.1 km) south of the Canada-US border.

Troy is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Troy, Orleans County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 261, out of 1,722 in the entire town of Troy. The CDP is in northwestern Orleans County, in the west-central part of the town. Its western border is the town line with Westfield. Vermont Routes 100 and 101 meet in the center of the village. Route 100 leads northeast 7 miles (11 km) to its northern terminus at Route 105 in Newport Center, and south 8 miles (13 km) to Lowell, while Route 101 leads north 6 miles (10 km) to North Troy next to the Canadian border. Troy village is in the valley of the Missisquoi River, which flows northwards along the east side of the village. The river flows north into Quebec, then turns west, passes the north end of the Green Mountains, and reenters Vermont, where it continues to Lake Champlain.

The North Troy–Highwater Border Crossing connects the town of Highwater, Quebec with North Troy, Vermont on the Canada–US border. It is located at the meeting point of Vermont Route 243 and Quebec Route 243. Both stations are open 24 hours per day for non-commercial traffic; the Canadian station is open to commercial traffic on weekdays during business hours. The former US station facilities, dating to the 1930s, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jay is one of the northernmost towns in Orleans County, Vermont, United States, located on the Canada–US border. The population was 551 at the 2020 census. Jay is named for John Jay, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. The US Census Bureau estimated that the town's population had increased by 13.1% between 2000 and 2005, the seventh largest increase in the state. Jay is also home to the Jay Challenge, a three-part stage-race, typically held in July.

Highwater is a village in the Potton township of the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada, in Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality of the Estrie region, north of the Canada–United States border from North Troy, Vermont. The Portland-Montreal Pipe Line crosses the border and there is pumping station on the Highwater side . Highwater was the site of the Space Research Corporation test site. The confluence of the North Branch and the South Branch of the Missisquoi River is in Highwater; this forms the Missisquoi River which flows into Lake Champlain at Missisquoi Bay. The Newport Subdivision of the Central Maine and Quebec Railway railroad route from Newport, Vermont to Richford, Vermont traverses Highwater and follows the Mississquoi River. The single runway Mansonville Airport (CSK4) is located on chemin de l'Aeroport.

The Missisquoi North River is a tributary of the Missisquoi River. The Missisquoi North River flows through the municipalities of Eastman, Stukely-Sud, Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, Bolton-Est, Mansonville and Potton, in the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality, in the administrative region of Estrie, in Quebec, in Canada.

Newport Center is the primary village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Newport, Orleans County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 231, out of 1,526 in the town of Newport. The CDP is in northern Orleans County, north of the geographic center of the town. It is in the valley of Mud Creek, a northwest-flowing tributary of the Missisquoi River, which flows west to Lake Champlain. Vermont Route 105 passes through the village center, leading northwest 6 miles (10 km) to North Troy next to the Canadian border and east-southeast the same distance to the city of Newport on Lake Memphremagog.

Newport is a town in Orleans County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,526 at the 2020 census. The town is referred to by the United States Postal Service and the media as Newport Center, the name of the main settlement of the town. Newport is also the name of neighboring Newport City.

Mansonville is a village in the Potton township of the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada, in Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality of the Estrie region, across the Canada–United States border from North Troy, Vermont. Now Mansonville is the business centre and the seat of Municipalite du canton de Potton (government for the township). Formerly a sleepy community, Mansonville has experienced some growth and prosperity because of its proximity to Owl's Head ski resort.

The Orleans-Franklin-1 Representative District is a one-member state Representative district in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is one of the 108 one or two member districts into which the state was divided by the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Orleans-Franklin-1 District includes all of the Orleans County towns of Jay, Lowell, Troy, and Westfield, and the Franklin County town of Montgomery. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Orleans-Franklin-1 District had a population of 4,223 in that same census, 4.04% above the state average.
