The district developed between about 1885 and 1948, and it includes representative examples of Italianate and Colonial Revival style architecture. Notable buildings include the McLaughlin Block (c. 1890) and Busy Bee Department Store (c. 1915).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 with a boundary increase in 2005.

It was built in 1915, and is a seven-story commercial building which is sheathed with cream colored terra cotta. A two-story addition was constructed in 1951. The building was remodeled in 1967. Springfield Grocer Company Warehouse, also known as the Holland-O'Neal Milling Company, is a historic warehouse building located at Springfield, Greene County, Missouri. It was built about 1925, and is a wide two story building with a four-story central tower. It measures approximately 185 feet by 40 feet and is tucked into a hillside. The building still bears wall signs added by the Springfield Grocer Company, including a distinctive set of signs advertising their private "Yellow Bonnet" brand of products.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

The Fox Theatre, is an historic auditorium and movie palace in Springfield, Missouri. Located in the northeast corner of the downtown square, the theatre operates to this day. It originally housed a laundry, then converted to a hotel in 1908. It continued as a hotel until 1946.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
