Newport Downtown Historic District (Newport, Vermont)

The Jerry E. Dickerman House is a historic house at 36 Field Avenue in the city of Newport, Vermont. Built in 1875 for a prominent local lawyer and customs collector, it is a prominent regional example of residential Second Empire architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

The Goodrich Memorial Library is a public library in Newport, Orleans County, Vermont. It is the largest and only one of two full-time libraries in the county. It is located at 202 Main Street in downtown Newport, in a Romanesque building constructed in 1899.

The Orleans County Courthouse and Jail Complex is a historic government facility on Main Street in the city of Newport, Vermont, the shire town of Orleans County. The complex includes a fine Romanesque courthouse built in 1886, a wood-frame jailer's quarters built in 1886 (now housing the sheriff's office), and a 1903 brick jail. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

The Ai J. White Duplex is a historic two-unit residential building at 343 Main Street in the city of Newport, Vermont. Built about 1897, it is a well-preserved example of multi-unit Queen Anne architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The U.S. Courthouse, Post Office and Customs House, also just known as the Federal Building, is a historic federal government building at Main and 2nd Streets in downtown Newport, Vermont. Completed in 1904, it served historically as a courthouse, as a customhouse, and as a post office, and is the city's tallest building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

St. Mary Star of the Sea, a Roman Catholic church, is located at the crest of Prospect Street, Newport, Vermont, overlooking Lake Memphremagog. It serves a community of more than 1000 families.

The Black River is a tributary of Lake Memphremagog, over 30 miles (48 km) long, in northern Vermont in the United States. It is one of the four major rivers in Orleans County. It is the longer but least powerful of the two rivers contained solely within the county. There are no longer any damsites. It is paralleled much of the way by Vermont Route 14, taking advantage of the terrain of the Black River Valley.

The Clyde River is a tributary of Lake Memphremagog, over 33.5 miles (54 km) long, in northern Vermont in the United States. It is the easternmost of the four major rivers in Orleans County. It is the most powerful of the four within Orleans County, powering several turbines at damsites. It is part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. It was named by one of the early surveyors from his partiality to a river of the same name in Scotland. The Route 105/114 junction to Clyde Road section of Clyde River in Vermont is 21 miles (34 km) long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section.

Newport is the only city in, and the shire town of, Orleans County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 4,455. The city contains the second-largest population of any municipality in the county (only neighboring Derby is larger), and has the smallest geographic area. It is the second-smallest city by population in Vermont. Newport is also the name of neighboring Newport Town. Newport was founded by European Americans as a settlement in 1793 and was first called Pickerel Point. It was the place where Rogers' Rangers retreated in 1759 after a French and Indian War incursion into Canada. In the 19th century, the village was stimulated by construction of the railroad in 1863, during the American Civil War. The lumbering firm Prouty & Miller operated here from 1865. Long after the post-war Reconstruction era, the village was the site for a Reunion Society of Vermont Officers in 1891. Newport has two public schools, one private school and a branch of the Community College of Vermont. As of the 2010 census there were 4,589 people.

The Barton River is a tributary of Lake Memphremagog, over 22 miles (35 km) long, in northern Vermont in the United States. It runs north from Glover through Barton, Brownington, Coventry and drains through Newport into Lake Memphremagog's South Bay.

The North Country Supervisory Union is a school district responsible for the education of students in the Vermont towns of the city of Newport, Newport Town, Derby, Charleston, Jay, Troy, North Troy, Coventry, Brighton, Holland, Morgan, Westfield, and Lowell. It is administered by a school board. The supervisory union changed its name from the "Orleans-Essex North Supervisory Union" in 2008. By land area of the towns which send students there, North Country is the largest supervisory union in the state.Its charter requires maintaining one elementary school in each of the towns mentioned, as well as the North Country Junior High School in Derby, and the North Country Union High School, in Newport City. The junior high school is supported by the city, and the towns of Derby, Holland, Jay, and Morgan. The union is headquartered in the city of Newport. The high school's budget for 2009-2010 was $13,863,537. The supervisory union had the lowest equalized per-student cost among the 28 union school districts in the state - $9,061.

North Country Union High School (NCUHS, North Country, or NCU) is a secondary school located in Newport, Vermont, United States. It is operated by the North Country Supervisory Union school district.The school serves students from Newport City, Newport Town, Derby, Charleston, Jay, Troy, North Troy, Coventry, Brighton, Holland, Morgan, Westfield and Lowell. Enrollment ranges between 1100 and 1200 students. NCU is affiliated with the North Country Career Center, a regional technical center that shares the NCU building. The school colors are maroon and blue, and its mascot is the Falcon.
