The Second Union School is a historic Rosenwald school building for African-American children located near Fife, in western Goochland County, Virginia. It was built in 1918, as a two-teacher school, near Second Union Baptist Church, which had been founded in 1865 as an independent black congregation.

Elk Hill, also known as Harrison's Elk Hill, is a historic plantation home located near Goochland, Goochland County, Virginia. It was built between 1835 and 1839, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, three-bay, stuccoed brick central-hall-plan house in the Greek Revival style. It has a two-story rear ell. The front facade features a one-story Tuscan order portico consisting of paired rectangular wooden pillars supporting a full entablature. Also on the property are the contributing servants' quarters (some former slave quarters), tack house, and spring house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Tinsley Tavern, also known as Tinsleyville Tavern, is a historic inn and tavern located near Columbia in Goochland County, Virginia. It was built about 1802, and is a two-story, vernacular Federal period building. It has a center passage plan, and features wood-frame construction with weatherboard cladding. A 1+1⁄2-story, rear addition dates to about 1920. The building was used as a drover's tavern until 1836, after which it was occupied as a single family home.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Elk Island, located in Goochland County, Virginia near Cartersville, is an island on the James River and across from the former Elk Hill plantation at the mouth of Byrd Creek. The island, one mile by five miles, is accessed by Elk Island Road (Virginia State Route 603).Annual flooding, and particularly a flood of 1870 that covered the entire island, laid bare evidence of Native American occupations. Three skeletons were found to have been buried at the southern end of the island. Other bones were found when plowing the land a little deeper than normal. Two archaeological sites on the island, the Wright and Little River sites, provided evidence of Late Archaic and Early Woodland period settlement through the presence of ceramic shards, including decorated Potomac Creek pottery, and other artifacts. There is also evidence that people inhabited the land during the 17th century. The artifacts included Delftware pottery, gun flints, and bottle glass.Elk Island was originally patented to John Woodson and Charles Fleming on 16 June 1714. It was subsequently purchased by John Thornton. On 6 April 1723, James Skelton, contractor for the Second Capitol at Williamsburg, purchased it from Thornton. Elk Island was part of the John Wayles and Thomas Jefferson Elk Hill plantation holdings. Tobacco and corn were grown on the island. Jefferson attained the Elk Hill and Elk Island plantation through his wife, Martha Wayles Jefferson. Jefferson's son-in-law, Bathurst Skelton also owned 1,000 acres on Elk Island. Bathurst Skelton was Martha Wayles' first husband. Both Skelton and later Thomas Jefferson used slaves to work the land. There were about 1,200 acres of fertile land on the island in 1894.In 1836, the James River and Kanawha Company evaluated the creation of a canal, an arm of which would end at the lower end of Elk Island, within the James River for transportation. The Elk Hill plantation conveyed their products to Richmond via canal boats.During the Revolutionary War, Elk Island and Elkhill were occupied by Lord Cornwallis and his men for ten days, during which time they destroyed many of the crops on the plantation and slaughtered livestock for provisions. Jefferson visited the site not long after Cornwallis left, and later recorded what he had seen in a letter to William Gordon in Paris.It is now the location of the Elk Hill Winery.

Belvidere is a historic farm property at 4024 Pace Road in rural Goochland County, Virginia, south of the hamlet of Hadensville. The property consists of 127 acres (51 ha) that are now mainly woodland, with a cleared area near its center with some fields and the farm complex. The centerpiece of the farm complex is a two-story wood-frame house, whose oldest portion probably dates to the late 18th century. It was enlarged by a two-story addition in 1821–22, and underwent further alterations in the 19th century before undergoing restoration beginning in 1979. It is a rare surviving example of 18th-century architecture in the county.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.

Bolling Island is a historic plantation house located overlooking the upper James River near Goochland, Goochland County, Virginia. The original frame section, now the east wing, was built in 1771. The principal two-story, hipped roof brick core was built between 1800 and 1810. The house was remodeled extensively between 1820 and 1835, as a Greek Revival style villa. At the time it was owned by Thomas Bolling, son of Col. William Bolling, who owned Bolling Hall, also a plantation in Goochland County. The younger Bolling installed triple-hung sash as part of his renovations, and added the portico with a Chinese lattice railing. He also added an orangery to the east wing. This resulted in the tri-partite scheme showing influence by Thomas Jefferson.The main house has a "T" plan and a two-story rear ell. The front facade features a two-story portico with a balustraded second level. Also on the property are the contributing smokehouse (c. 1845), office (1839), and brick kitchen.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The Oaks is a historic home located near Kents Store, Fluvanna County, Virginia. It was built between about 1809 and 1830. The rear ell is the original section, and is a two-story, brick structure. In 1830 the brick, single pile, two-story structure over a raised basement was built onto the south. The house has a slate covered gable roof. A small one-story weatherboard addition was built onto the rear about 1915. Also on the property are the contributing outdoor kitchen (later used as a schoolroom), a smokehouse, an icehouse, a latticed covered well, a barn, and the large Richardson/Bowles family cemetery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Byrd Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located at Goochland in western Goochland County, Virginia on Dogtown Road. The original building dates from 1838 and is still in active use today. It is a two-story, rectangular brick structure with a slate gable roof. The interior of the church measures 28 feet by 40 feet. Also on the property is a contributing church cemetery with graves dating back to at least the 1850s.The original congregation began in 1748, and erected a dedicated building on Byrd Creek in 1759. Notable theologian Samuel Davies was one of the founding members.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Bolling Hall is a historic home located near Goochland, Goochland County, Virginia. The original section was built before 1799 as a two-story, frame structure measuring 34 feet by 22 feet. This was the main house of a property developed as a plantation. The house was expanded in 1803, and expanded again by 1815. It was extensively remodeled and expanded between 1845 and 1861. The house was remodeled in 1947. The home has a two-story, five-bay central section with flanking wings.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
