St. Jacobs, Ontario

The Waterloo-St. Jacobs Railway (WSJR) was a heritage railway west of Toronto that ran between Waterloo and St. Jacobs, Ontario from 1997 to 1999. The railway used two diesel locomotives built in the 1950s, originally owned by Canadian National Railways, and repainted them in their original paint scheme. The locomotives were named Spirit of St. Jacobs and Pride of Waterloo. It also had several passenger cars painted in the same paint scheme. Excursions had three stops, and visitors could board on a later train. The Railway allowed visitors to see farms of the Old Order Mennonites and visit the village of St. Jacobs. The railway ceased operation in 2000 due to maintenance costs. In late 2006, the two diesels and three passenger cars were purchased by the West Coast Railway Association. However, as of 2008 the diesels and one passenger car remain in Via Rail's Mimico maintenance yard.

The Waterloo Central Railway (WCR) is a non-profit heritage railway owned and operated by the Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society (SOLRS). In May 2007, SOLRS received joint approval from the Region of Waterloo and the City of Waterloo to run trains from Waterloo to St Jacobs and potentially as far north as Elmira. On a typical operating day, the train runs three times a day on Tuesdays (June to August), Thursdays (May to October) and Saturday (April to October). In 2015, the railway lost regular running rights south of Northfield Drive to make way for the Ion light rail project. All Market Train service now runs between St. Jacobs Farmers' Market, the Village of St. Jacobs, and Elmira, Ontario. The train also runs on certain special events including the Maple Syrup Festival in early April.

St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is a farmers' market and flea market in Woolwich, Ontario, Canada. It is located to the south of King Street North, to the east of Weber Street North, and to the west of the railway tracks. It is the largest year-round farmer's market in Canada, and is a popular destination for residents of the town and nearby communities, as well as tourists from Canada, the United States, and Europe. It draws about 1 million visitors annually.It was established in April 1975. The main building of the market was destroyed by a fire on 2 September 2013. The market was rebuilt and re-opened on 11 June 2015. The market is on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout the year.

Waterloo Maple Inc. is a Canadian software company, headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario. It operates under the trade name Maplesoft. It is best known as the manufacturer of the Maple computer algebra system, and MapleSim physical modeling and simulation software.

Northfield is a stop on the Region of Waterloo's Ion rapid transit system. It is located on Northfield Drive in Waterloo, between Parkside Drive and the Conestoga Parkway, at the existing railway corridor. It opened on June 21, 2019. Access to the platform is from the north, directly from the Northfield Drive sidewalk; to the south, there is only an emergency egress on the eastern side, where a locked gate gives access for Ion staff to the Operations and Maintenance facility just to the south. The station's feature wall consists of brown stone tiles with wavering variations. Just opposite the station on Northfield Drive, in the same rail corridor, is the southern terminus of the Waterloo Central Railway tourist train to St. Jacobs and Elmira. It marks a transition point between tracks running in the boulevard of a road in the direction of the Conestoga terminus, and open tracks running in a railway corridor in the direction of Uptown Waterloo. Just south of the station, the Waterloo Spur freight line merges with the southbound track; a short distance south of that, the line accesses the Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facility.

They include BlackBerry Cylance's artificial intelligence based cyber-security solutions, the BlackBerry AtHoc emergency communication system (ECS) platform; the QNX real-time operating system; and BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Manager), a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platform. BlackBerry was founded in 1984 as Research In Motion by Mike Lazaridis and Douglas Fregin. Since November 2013, John S. Chen has been CEO. His transformative strategy for Blackberry since then has been focused on software offerings and cybersecurity.

Conestoga Mall is a shopping mall located at 550 King Street North in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Located at King Street's interchange with the Conestoga Parkway, it is the largest shopping centre in Waterloo, and third-largest in Waterloo Region. The mall is owned and operated by the shopping centre development company Ivanhoé Cambridge, which is a principal real estate subsidiary of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.Conestoga Mall has over 130 stores and services. The mall has a Food Court featuring 14 vendors and a Galaxy Cinema. Anchor tenants include Hudson's Bay, Zehrs, Galaxy Cinemas, Winners, Sport Chek, Old Navy, and Shoppers Drug Mart . The mall, built in 1978, was one of the only buildings on this section of King Street. Since it opened, the mall has been expanded several times, and has contributed to the retail success of this area. Several big box retailers have opened on King Street North around the mall.

Laurel Creek Conservation Area, or simply Laurel Creek, is a park located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The park is owned by the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). Laurel Creek is open year-round and offers several outdoor activities, such as swimming, campsites, picnic tables, and playgrounds.

St. Luke Elementary School is a Catholic primary school in Waterloo, Ontario. The school instructs students from Junior Kindergarten (JK) to the eighth grade. St. Luke opened in 2001 and is a part of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. It is one of the feeder schools for St. David Catholic Secondary School. The school motto is "Rooted in the Love of Christ" and the school is named after Luke the Evangelist. The local Parish for the school St. Agnes Parish which supports the school's Sacramental programs. While not directly affiliated with the school, Owl Child Care provides childcare services in a separate section of the building. [1] The school's sports teams are known as the Lightning.

Elmira Airport (TC LID: CNT6) is located 2 nautical miles (3.7 km; 2.3 mi) southwest of Elmira, Ontario, Canada. CNT6 is the original Elmira, Ontario airport. It is located in the middle of Mennonite country with Old Order Mennonites, and the fields to the north and south of the airport are often plowed using horses. When expedient, the farmers contract with others who have tractors, and then the fields are plowed with tractors (e.g. spring of 2011 was very wet and so using tractors when the fields were dry allowed the crops to be planted more quickly). For many years the Guelph Gliding and Soaring Association operated from this location but in 2008, their membership dropped off and with increased expenses, they ended the operation. A windstorm in the spring of 2008 destroyed many of their sailplanes that were tied up on the field, further hitting the assets of the club. One of the members' planes was in a trailer that was not tied down and the trailer ended up being blown over the fence into the neighboring farmer's field. CNT6 is the home of C-GHQU, the SeaBeast, a converted Republic RC3 Seabee. As a Seabee, C-GHQU first flew in 1947. As the SeaBeast, C-GHQU first flew in May 2011.
