Leadwood is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,282 at the 2010 census.

Mitchell is an unincorporated community in St. Francois County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community lies above the headwaters of Owl Creek, approximately one mile south of Leadwood and two miles west of Elvins.Mitchell was laid out in 1925.

Frankclay is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in West Central St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately one mile south of Route 8 about five miles west of Flat River. A post office called Frankclay was established in 1905, and remained in operation until 1973. The community has the name of the original owner of the town site.

Gumbo is an unincorporated community in northwestern St. Francois County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is located along Missouri Route 8 between Desloge and Leadwood. The meandering Big River lies to the north.Gumbo most likely was so named on account of "gombo" dirt near the original town site. During World War II, a large TNT plant was located five miles west of Gumbo.

Randolph Township is an inactive township in St. Francois County, in the U.S. state of Missouri.Randolph Township was erected in 1858, taking its name from John Randolph of Roanoke.

Murrill Hill is a summit in St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The hill has a peak elevation of 797 feet (243 m). The hill lies within a horseshoe bend in Big River about three quarters of a mile west of Desloge.Murrill Hill has the name of Tom Murrill, the original owner of the site.

The recreational community is built around several man-made lakes and a golf course overlooking the Big River valley to the south.

The Mississippi River & Bonne Terre Railway (M.R. & B.T.) was a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad that was located in southeastern Missouri and began service in 1892. It extended from Riverside in a general southwesterly direction to the lead-mining field in St. Francois County. The main stem, from Riverside to Doe Run, was 46.492 miles (74.822 km) long. Eight short branch lines had a total trackage of 17.418 miles (28.032 km). Sidings and spurs aggregated 30.664 miles (49.349 km), and all tracks owned 94.574 miles (152.202 km).

Bonne Terre Depot, also known as the Mississippi River and Bonne Terre Railway Depot, is a historic train station located at Bonne Terre, St. Francois County, Missouri. It was built in 1909 by the Mississippi River and Bonne Terre Railway, and is a 2 1/2-story, Queen Anne / Stick style frame building on an ashlar foundation. It has a hipped roof with dormers and features a round, conical-roofed tower and encircling verandah with bell-cast profile.: 2, 6  The building has been renovated as a bed and breakfast inn. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

St. Joe Lead Company Administration Building, also known as the St. Joe Company Offices, Central Office Building, is a historic office building located at Bonne Terre, St. Francois County, Missouri. It was built in 1909 by the St. Joe Lead Company, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, H-shaped, Gothic Revival style brick building with granite trim. It features pointed arched entrances, bay windows and bi-chromatic decoration.: 2, 6 It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Bonne Terre ( bon-TAIR) is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States with a population of 6,864 at the 2010 census. Situated in the Southeast Missouri Lead District, lead mining shaped the history and character of the area from the earliest French settlers in the 1720s until today, even though Bonne Terre Mine established by St. Joseph lead mining company in 1864 closed in 1962. Mine tailing piles eroded, and contaminated the area as dust, posing residential hazards or were washed into the Big River. Only in 1992, the Bonne Terre Mine Tailings Site was listed as a Superfund Site; as of 2022 remediation is still ongoing. The Bonne Terre Depot from 1909, the St. Joe Lead Company Administration Building and the Bonne Terre Mine, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The latter is spring water filled and became a scuba diving attraction. Bonne Terre is also home to the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center, a 3000 bed prison of adult males who may have substance abuse issues or are mentally disabled, where Missouri has conducted all of its executions since April 2005.

The Derby-Doerun Dolomite is a Cambrian geologic formation exposed in southeast Missouri. Originally the Derby and Doerun were originally considered separate formations, but now considered a single unit. The combined name is from the Derby Mine and the Doe Run Lead Company of the Old Lead Belt.
