Halsted Street, also known as Halsted Street/U.I.C., is a station on Metra's BNSF Line, located in Chicago, Illinois. The station is 1.8 miles (2.9 km) away from Union Station, the eastern terminus of the BNSF Line. As of 2018, Halsted Street is the 182nd busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 115 weekday boardings. The elevated station consists of two island platforms on an embankment near an overpass. Only the northern island platform is actively used for passenger service. There are two unstaffed shelters on the northern platform, and staircases leading to the southbound sidewalk. Halsted Street is only served on weekdays.

Maxwell Street is an east-west street in Chicago, Illinois that intersects with Halsted Street just south of Roosevelt Road. It runs at 1330 South in the numbering system running from 500 West to 1126 West. The Maxwell Street neighborhood is considered part of the Near West Side and is one of the city's oldest residential districts. It is notable as the location of the celebrated Maxwell Street Market and the birthplace of Chicago blues and the "Maxwell Street Polish", a sausage sandwich. A large portion of the area is now part of the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and a private housing development sponsored by the university.

South Water Market is a historic produce market in the Lower West Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Completed in 1925, the complex was designed as a structured replacement to Chicago's sprawling downtown produce markets on South Water Street; while these markets had existed since the mid-19th century, they had become a traffic and sanitation problem. The new complex included six buildings with 166 units, all with modernized and hygienic facilities; despite being relocated away from South Water Street, it kept the South Water name. The complex was the largest produce market by area in the nation when it opened, and it soon became the second-largest by sales behind New York City's markets. The market served as the nexus of Chicago's major produce wholesaling industry, which both provided food for city residents and functioned as a forwarding market due to the city's railroad connections. Although business at the market fell into a decline by the 1950s, the market remained in operation until 2001. The market was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 20, 2004.

The 7th District Police Station, or Maxwell Street Station in Chicago, Illinois, was built in 1888 in response to the need for increased police presence in "Bloody Maxwell", known colloquially as "the Wickedest Police District in the World." The neighborhood, a changing melting pot of Irish, German, Italian and European Jewish immigrants, grew mightily in the years following the Chicago Fire of 1871. The housing and sanitation situation in the district was substandard, and the residents poor. Criminal activity flourished. The Romanesque style station is architecturally significant as an example of pre-1945 police stations in Chicago. It was designed by Willoughby J. Edbrooke and Franklin Pierce Burnham. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. The Chicago Police Department vacated the station in 1998. After extensive renovation, the red brick and limestone building became the home of the University of Illinois at Chicago Police Department. The renovations were done in a manner designed to uphold the historic significance of the building's architecture. "The building's original windows were sent to a company in Kankakee for restoration, the masonry cleaned and repaired, the roof replaced, and parapets at the top of the station rebuilt using custom-made bricks, the exact texture and color of the originals." In order to be handicap-accessible, the renovations included constructing a new street-level main entrance where the vehicle entrance had been, to the east of the original front doors and their six steps. The building is known in popular culture because the outside was used as the picture of the precinct house in the opening and closing credits, and establishing shots of the iconic television series, Hill Street Blues. It is also used as the exterior of the precinct house in the television series Chicago PD, and the television series Sense8.

Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium is a baseball venue in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is home to the UIC Flames baseball team of the NCAA Division I Horizon League. The facility has a capacity of 1,000 spectators and is named for Les Miller, UIC head baseball coach from 1949–1979, and Curtis Granderson, an alumnus of the program. During Miller's tenure, the program won over 500 games. Granderson was named conference player of the year with the Flames in 2002 and later played in Major League Baseball. On 17 September 2013, UIC broke ground on a new stadium on the same site, funded in part by donations from Granderson. It consists of a new structure housing a press box, dugouts, and grandstand, and was completed for the 2014 season.

The Fisk Generating Station, also known as Fisk Street Generating Station or Fisk Station is an inactive medium-size, coal-fired electric generating station located at 1111 West Cermak Road in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It is sited near the south branch of the Chicago River to provide access to water for steam and barge traffic for coal, but closed in 2012.

The Cermak Road Bridge Historic District is a national historic district in the Lower West Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district includes the Cermak Road Bridge, which carries Cermak Road across the Chicago River, and four buildings clustered around the bridge. The bridge opened in 1906 and is a rare surviving example of a Scherzer rolling lift bridge in Chicago. The four buildings, all originally factories or warehouses, represent the growth of industry along the river in the early twentieth century. Sites along the river provided access not only to transportation on the river itself but also to the many railroads in the area.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 2012.

The Schoenhofen Brewery Historic District is centered on the former site of the Peter Schoenhofen Brewing Company at 18th and Canalport Avenue in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

Thalia Hall is an historic building in Pilsen, Chicago which is currently a mixed-use music, retail, and bar/restaurant space. It was designated as a Chicago Landmark on October 25, 1989.Thalia Hall was built in 1892 by saloonkeeper John Dusek, and designed by architects Frederick Faber and William Pagels in the Romanesque Revival style.Its current owners, as of 2018, are Bruce Finkelman and Craig Golde, through their firm 16” on Center.

Dusek's is a restaurant in Chicago, in the U.S. state of Illinois. The gastropub serves American cuisine.

Pacific Garden Mission is a homeless shelter in the Near West Side section of Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1877 by Colonel George Clarke and his wife, Sarah. Nicknamed "The Old Lighthouse", it is the largest homeless shelter in Chicago and among the oldest in the city, and, according to the PGM website, "is the oldest continuously operating rescue mission in the country."Among the converts to Christ from PGM's efforts are the famous evangelists Billy Sunday and Mel Trotter. In 1950, the Mission began production of Unshackled!, a radio dramatic series showcasing conversions to Evangelical Christianity. The show, recorded live at PGM, remains in production today and is translated into seven languages for international distribution. PGM's original location was at 386 S. Clark Street. In 1880, the mission moved to 67 E. Van Buren Street, in a location formerly known as the "Pacific Beer Garden." The current name, "Pacific Garden Mission", was adopted at that time - it was suggested by evangelist D.L. Moody that the name of the former occupant be kept but with the word "Beer" dropped from the name. In 1923 the Mission moved to 646 S. State Street, just south of The Loop, following a shift in the location of Chicago's Skid Row. At that time, the area was known for its hobo jungles and flophouses. Due to large population growth in the neighborhood beginning in the 1990s and continuing through the 2000s, the City of Chicago filed suit against the Mission in the early 2000s in order to expand the undersized and outdated facilities of Jones College Prep, a public high school located at 606 S. State Street, next door to Pacific Garden. The Mission signed an agreement with the city in December 2004 to move to a new location at 1458 South Canal Street, about one mile southwest of its State Street location. PGM's State Street building was slated for demolition to make room for the Jones expansion. Groundbreaking for the new PGM facility took place on November 16, 2005. The building, designed by Chicago architect Stanley Tigerman of Tigerman McCurry Architects, was completed in 2007, with the formal dedication October 13, 2007.

UIC Skyspace is a skyspace by James Turrell located at the southwest corner of Roosevelt Road and Halsted Street in Chicago. The sculpture was created in 2005 as part of the creation of the South Campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago. The sculpture and a fountain are located in the middle of Earl Neal Plaza, named for the lawyer who was instrumental in coordinating the development of the South Campus.
