Frank Hughes Memorial Library is a historic library building located at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It was designed by the architectural firm Wight and Wight and built in 1940. It is a one-story, rectangular Classical Revival style brick building. It has a gable roof with a wide elaborate cornice. It features a flat-roofed portico feature a wide, simple wood entablature topped with a rooftop balustrade.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It is located in the Jewell-Lightburne Historic District.

Jewell-Lightburne Historic District is a national historic district located at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It encompasses 236 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Liberty. The district developed between about 1852 and 1946, and includes representative examples of Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Tudor Revival, Prairie School, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style residential architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Frank Hughes Memorial Library.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

William Jewell College is a private liberal arts college in Liberty, Missouri. It was founded in 1849 by members of the Missouri Baptist Convention and endowed with $10,000 by William Jewell. It was associated with the Missouri Baptist Convention for over 150 years until it separated in 2003 and became independent. After becoming a nonsectarian institution, the college's enrollment fell by approximately 40% to 739 students in 2018. Jewell is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Major Hotel, also known as Colonial Hotel and Franklin House Apartments, is a historic hotel located at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It was designed by the architectural firm Keene & Simpson and built in 1912. It is a three-story, rectangular brick building with Colonial Revival and Prairie School style design elements. It features a low-pitched, hipped roof with wide, overhanging eaves and shed-roof dormers and one-story/ full-length verandah porch. It was rebuilt after a fire in 1934 and converted to a 21-unit apartment building in 1987.: 5–7 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Jewell Hall is a historic building located on the campus of William Jewell College at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It was built between 1850 and 1853, and is a three-story, modified "H"-plan, Classical Revival style brick and Missouri limestone building. The building measures 120 feet in length and 66 feet in width. It features a colonnade of square columns which spans a recessed, central portico. The interior of Jewell Hall was completely remodelled in 1946–1948.: 3–5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Clay County Savings Association in Liberty, Missouri, was robbed on February 13, 1866, making it one of the earliest documented daylight bank robberies. The robbers escaped with at least $60,000 (equivalent to $1,199,000 in 2022) and killed a bystander outside. The robbery is believed to have been conducted by a group of former Confederate guerrillas, possibly led by Jesse James or Archie Clement, which became known as the James–Younger Gang. According to accounts of the day: On the afternoon of February 13, 1866, "some ten or twelve persons rode into town" and milled outside the Clay County Savings Association building. Two of the riders entered the bank, which was staffed only by the head cashier, Greenup Bird, and his son, William Bird, who was a bank clerk. After asking to change a $10 bill, the men drew revolvers and demanded money. William loaded the robbers' feed sack with gold, currency, bonds, and tax stamps. The two Birds were herded into the bank's vault, and the robbers left the building. As the robbers mounted to ride away, shots were fired. Accounts differ: problems with mounting a horse caused a "commotion" during which someone opened fire, or perhaps one of the gang fired "without any sort of provocation whatever". George "Jolly" Wymore, a 19-year-old student from William Jewell College who was across the street, was killed by a bullet. The gang rode away, pursued after a time by a posse of "outraged" townspeople who "could procure arms and horses".The entire maneuver lasted no more than 15 minutes.In total, the robbers collected at least $60,000. Reportedly they collected government bonds worth $42,000 to $45,000, $518 in tax stamps, gold, silver coins, and banknotes.The bank offered a $5,000 reward for recovery of the money. Attempts to track the robbers were hindered by snow that covered their tracks. Articles in local newspapers implicated both former Confederate bushwackers and Kansas Redlegs of the crime. Later, some townspeople admitted to recognizing some of the robbers but withholding the information out of fear. The robbers were never caught, and no money was ever recovered. The Association eventually settled with creditors for 60 cents on the dollar and closed.The building is located at 104 East Franklin Street, a block northeast of the Clay County Courthouse. It was built in 1859, and is a two-story, Federal style rectangular brick building with a gable roof.: 2  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

It encompasses nine contributing buildings in the central business district of Liberty. The district developed between about 1875 and 1942, and includes representative examples of Classical Revival, Late Victorian, and Modern Movement style architecture. Notable buildings include the Clay County Courthouse (1935–1936) by Wight and Wight and First National Bank (1923).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The IOOF Liberty Lodge No. 49, built in 1923, is a historic commercial building in Liberty, Missouri. It served historically as an Independent Order of Odd Fellows meeting hall and as a specialty store. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Miller Building is a historic commercial building located at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It was built in 1868, and is a two-story, rectangular brick building with Late Victorian style design elements. It has a flat roof and features a decorative brick cornice, hooded window surrounds, and an intact storefront with cast-iron columns.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Clinton House is a historic home located at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri at 404 S. Leonard Street. It was built in 1875 in the Italianate Asymmetrical style. The house consists of a two-story polygonal wing attached to a rectangular wing. The two-story veranda with railed porch and entrances for cross ventilation reflects a Southern influence. Interesting features include the stone-incised fluer-de-lis keystones. Mt. Memorial Cemetery, also known as The Old Gravevard, is a historic cemetery located on the campus of William Jewell College at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It was established about 1828, and contains 554 documented burials. The cemetery is rectangular in plan and measures approximately 140 feet by 435 feet.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

West Liberty Courthouse Square Historic District is a national historic district located at Liberty, Clay County, Missouri. It encompasses three contributing buildings in the central business district of Liberty. The adjoining buildings were built between 1877 and 1885, and are representative examples of Italianate style commercial architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
