Croydon Cenotaph

The County Borough of Croydon was a local government district in and around the town of Croydon in north east Surrey, England from 1889 to 1965. Since 1965 the district has been part of the London Borough of Croydon within Greater London.

Central Croydon railway station in Croydon, England, was a largely unsuccessful venture by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway to bring trains closer to the centre of Croydon, as East Croydon station was deemed too far from the busy town centre. It originally opened in 1868 and closed in 1871: it then reopened in 1886, before closing permanently in 1890. Its site was used for the building of Croydon Town Hall, erected in 1892–1896.

Croydon Clocktower is an arts and museum complex located on Katharine Street in Croydon, London.

Croydon Central Library is Croydon's main public library located inside the Croydon Clocktower in Croydon, south London. It is owned by the London Borough of Croydon on behalf of Croydon Council. The library is located on four floors inside the building. There are also children's reading sessions.It was the third-most-used public library in the UK in 2010.

Croydon Town Hall is a council building in Katherine Street, Croydon which serves as headquarters for Croydon London Borough Council. It is a Grade II listed building.

The David Lean Cinema is a small cinema established in Croydon, London. It is accessed from the Croydon Clocktower arts complex on Katharine Street.

The Museum of Croydon is a museum located within the Croydon Clocktower arts facility in Central Croydon, England. It showcases historical and cultural artefacts relating to the London Borough of Croydon and its people. The museum is owned and run by Croydon Council. It is located on the upper ground floor of Croydon Clocktower, but also incorporates the Riesco Gallery, on the lower ground floor, which displays Roman and Anglo-Saxon collections and a collection of Chinese ceramics. The museum originally opened under the name Lifetimes in 1995; and re-opened under its present name, following a major redevelopment and redesign, in 2006. Admission is free, and many of the displays are hands-on and interactive.

The Spread Eagle Theatre is a 50-seat capacity studio theatre situated above the Spread Eagle pub in Croydon, England. Opening in October 2013 in response to the closure of the Warehouse Theatre in 2012, the pub transformed its upstairs function room into a theatre space. The Spread Eagle Theatre supported and hosted the campaign to save the David Lean Cinema, the nearby arthouse cinema which later reopened. The theatre works closely with its sister venue, the Old Joint Stock Theatre in Birmingham, on co-productions with professional theatre companies. Both venues champion "big plays for small spaces", with an emphasis on supporting new writing.

Park Place was a proposed shopping centre which had been expected to open in Croydon, London by 2011. The date was continuously pushed back due to a number of problems between different developers, financial backers and the local council. It was cancelled in 2009, as other schemes began progress, such as the extension to Centrale and the possible takeover of the Whitgift Centre by Westfield Group. Park Place was part of the Croydon Vision 2020 re-generation scheme. Park Place has been proposed by developers Minerva plc and was given planning approval in 2000 by Croydon Council after which the Government Office for London decided not to proceed with a call-in in 2003, despite concerns over traffic and the impact upon existing retail. This decision, ultimately by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, caused controversy in 2006 amidst the Cash for Peerages political scandal, when it emerged that two of Minerva's previous and current chairmen, Sir David Garrard and Andrew Rosenfeld, had made major loans to the Labour Party three months before the decision not to call in the planning application. Prescott denied any wrongdoing.In May 2009, Croydon Council announced that it would be ending the development agreement with Minerva following a realisation that they would not be able to secure funding after Lend Lease pulled out of the project.

Bernard Weatherill House is a municipal facility in Croydon, London. The building, which is located just south of Croydon Town Hall, provides accommodation for many of the offices of Croydon London Borough Council.

St George's Walk is a partially covered shopping parade in the centre of Croydon, London that houses many independent stores. It was completed in 1964 by Ronald Ward and Partners, the designers of St George's House, at one end of the walk, and Millbank Tower in Westminster.
