Graig-y-Rhacca

Bedwas High School, formerly known as Bedwas Comprehensive School, is a comprehensive school located east of the Welsh village of Bedwas, Caerphilly county borough, south Wales. It has a total enrollment of about 680 pupils ages 11 to 18. Bedwas High School was inspected by Estyn, the office of Her Majesty's School Inspectorate for Education and Training in Wales, in 2007 and the school received a favourable report with five 2s and two 1s.In 2015-16 the school was ranked in the red support category by the Welsh categoristion system. This is the lowest of the 4 possible ratings.There are approximately 680 pupils in attendance at the school including those in the sixth form. The school was officially opened in May 1962 (although pupils had been attending since the previous September) to move the Tyn-y-Wern Secondary School from Trethomas. Originally, the school was a community school under Monmouthshire County Council but when county boundaries were revised in 1973, it became one of 46 comprehensive schools in Mid Glamorgan. As a result of local Government reorganisation in 1996, it became one of 16 comprehensive schools in Caerphilly County Borough. From September 2007, as the result of closure of two of the secondary schools in the Borough (Bedwellty in 2005 and St Ilan in 2007), it became one of 14 secondary schools. The school serves the community to the east of the River Rhymney. This is made up of the villages of Bedwas, Trethomas, Graig-y-Rhacca and Machen. The school has five feeder schools in its designated catchment area (including Plasyfelin from September 2007) but, in addition, approximately 10% of the pupils come to Bedwas High School from outside the catchment area.

Waterloo is a small hamlet to the east of Caerphilly, Wales, in the community of Rudry.

Trethomas railway station served the village of Trethomas, Caerphilly, Wales, from 1915 to 1962 on the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway.

White Hart Halt was a short-lived railway halt in South Wales. The halt was situated near the White Hart Inn. It was on both the 'up' and 'down' sections of the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Machen loop line.The halt had a single ground-level platform with a wooden shelter, and a basic level crossing over the single line to give access to the shelter, which was on the side of the track furthest the road. The station was not staffed. White Hart Halt closed on 30 June 1952. Little trace remains. The embankment which carried the line is still in existence, but is badly overgrown, making any remaining traces difficult to glimpse.

Trethomas (English: Thomastown) is a small village 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) northeast of Caerphilly, southeast Wales, situated in the Caerphilly county borough, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. It neighbours Bedwas and Machen, and forms a council ward in conjunction with those communities.

Nine Mile Point colliery was a coal mine at Cwmfelinfach in the South Wales Valleys, originally known as "Coronation Colliery", and constructed between 1902 and 1905. The deepest shaft was 1,176 feet deep. Seven men were killed on 13 August 1904 during the establishment of the mine. It was renamed Nine Mile Point as that was the distance of the tramroad from the edge of Lord Tredegar's boundary in Newport to the colliery. At its peak it employed 2,105 men, who lived mainly in the surrounding villages of Wattsville and Cwmfelinfach. In 1935, 164 men "stayed down" in a "sit in" protest, the first ever in the South Wales coalfield, over the use of scab labour. In 1929 riots broke out at the colliery. The reasons for the riot were to be found in the employment of blackleg labour, with more than 700 villagers and miners rioting at the time, taking several days for police to disperse and maintain control. The colliery closed in 1964.

St James's Church, Rudry is an historic Anglican church in the village of Rudry in the Diocese of Monmouth.

Bedwas Navigation Colliery was a coal mine in the small Welsh village of Bedwas, two miles (3.2 km) north of Caerphilly. The colliery opened in 1913, and closed after the miners' strike of 1984-85.

Nine Mile Point railway station was a halt on the Newport to Tredegar line of the Sirhowy Railway. It served the village of Wattsville. It marked the position of the end on junction between the Sirhowy and Monmouthshire tramroads, being nine miles from the end of the Monmouthshire section of the tramroad at Llanarth St, Newport. Marshalling yards to the north were for the Nine Mile Point Colliery. Nine Mile Point had two signal boxes, No 1 & 2 within short distance of each other. This was due to the very narrow valley allowing just an up and down line. Traffic between the marshalling yards and the colliery was considerable needing the use of two signal boxes. Little remains of this site other than a water tower foundations and evidence of a platform. At its peak there were 11 daily services between Nine Mile point and Newport or Tredegar.

Machen railway station was an interchange junction in Caerphilly County Borough, South Wales. It was large and substantial compared with many other stations in the vicinity.

Bedwas Workmen's Hall, built in 1923, is a community hall situated in the town of Bedwas, in south Wales. It is a Grade II listed building, but still for hire and regularly used for a range of activities including plays, children's parties and music events - having a generous sized performance space for all types of professional and amateur productions. It is now run by the Bedwas Workmen's Hall Community Centre (Charity No.1006294)

Wattsville is a small village in the Sirhowy Valley, eight miles north west of Newport, built in the 20th century for accommodation for mine workers.
