Tregynon

Gregynog (Welsh pronunciation: [ɡrɛˈɡənɔɡ]) is a large country mansion in the village of Tregynon, 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Newtown in the old county of Montgomeryshire, now Powys in mid Wales. There has been a settlement on the site since the twelfth century. From the fifteenth to the nineteenth century it was the home of the Blayney and Hanbury-Tracy families. In 1960 it was transferred to the University of Wales as a conference and study centre by Margaret Davies, granddaughter of the nineteenth century industrial magnate and philanthropist, David Davies 'Top Sawyer' of Llandinam. The gardens and park surrounding the house are listed at Grade I on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

The River Rhiw (Welsh: Afon Rhiw meaning 'slope river' or 'stream river') is a short river in the north of Powys in Wales. Two headwater tributaries both named Afon Rhiw flow east to join at Dwyrhiew and then continue in a generally easterly direction to join the River Severn east of Berriew (Welsh: Aberriw ‘mouth of the Rhiw’). The northern Rhiw emerges from Llyn y Bugail (Welsh: ‘lake of the shepherd’) on Mynydd Waun Fawr whilst the southern Rhiw rises near Mynydd Dwyriw. The combined river flows past the hamlets of New Mills (Welsh: Felin Newydd), Manafon and Pant-y-ffridd, accompanied by the B4390 road all the way to Berriew. Other tributaries include the Nant Wtre-wen, Crygnant, Nant y Llyn Mawr and Dolgar Brook. It is bridged and forded at numerous points, one of which is an aqueduct carrying the Montgomery Canal over it at Berriew. At the eastern end of the river is Glansevern Hall and gardens.

Manafon is a small rural community located in the hills of Montgomeryshire, the Northern part of the Welsh county of Powys. The Parish focuses on the valley of the River Rhiew that runs west to east into the River Severn". The community of Manafon consists of "two main villages within about a mile of one another, Manafon and New Mills. The remainder of the population lives in scattered farms and dwellings and in the small rural settlement of The Green."The village is 8 miles (13 km) from Welshpool, 78.4 miles (126.2 km) from Cardiff, and 155.3 miles (249.9 km) from London.In 2011 the population of Manafon was 301 with 18.4% of them able to speak Welsh. Between 1841 and 1901 the population declined from 795 to 501.The name was recorded in 1254 as Manauon with Mannavon in 1338, and "the modern spelling first appears early in the reign of Elizabeth, c.1566." Experts now suggest that it means "the ‘plain associated with Anafon’, where the first element is Welsh ma meaning ‘plain, field or place’ and the second a personal name", rather than afon meaning ‘river’, as in Stratford-upon-Avon, which was the earlier view.

St Beuno's Church, Bettws Cedewain lies within the historic county of Montgomeryshire in Powys. The church occupies a prominent position overlooking the village of Bettws Cedewain, on the northern edge of the valley of the Bechan Brook which flows into the River Severn. Bettws is about 9 miles to the south-west of Welshpool. The church is a single-chambered structure with a western tower, set in a near-circular churchyard. A campanile or bellcote was added to the earlier tower in the early 16th century by the vicar, John ap Meredyth, whose memorial brass remains in the church to-day. The church was extensively rebuilt in 1868 under the supervision of the architect William Eden Nesfield. This included a complete rebuild of the upper part of the tower

St Michael's Church is in the small village of Manafon, Powys, Wales. It is an active Anglican church in the parish of Llanfair Caereinion, Llanllugan and Manafon, the deanery of Mathrafal, the archdeaconry of Montgomery and the diocese of St Asaph. The church has been designated by Cadw as a Grade II* listed building.

Bettws Cedewain (Welsh: Betws Cedewain), also known as Bettws Cedewen, is a small village and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales. It lies in a sheltered valley on the banks of the River Bechan, some 3 miles (5 km) north of Newtown, on the B4389 road. The community is known as Betws Cedewain, and includes the hamlets of Highgate and Brooks. A wooden motte-and-bailey castle appears to have existed there at one time. The site was also possibly previously used by Roman soldiers, and an ancient church was founded there by Saint Beuno in the 6th century. Bettws Cedewain's Grade II* listed St Beuno's church, which was the location of the village's first schoolroom, contains possibly the only pre-Reformation memorial brass in the county, dedicated to the Reverend John ap Meredyth for his work in planning and building the tower. Until 1914, most properties in the village belonged to the Gregynog estate. Bettws Hall is a local venue for game bird shoots.The first element in the name of the village is from the Middle English word bedhus, meaning "prayer house", which became betws in Welsh. Cedewain is the name of the medieval land division, or cantref, in which the village is situated. Hen Llys (or Henllys Hall) is a house in Manafon, Powys, Wales. It is a Grade II listed building. In his biography of John Douglas, Edward Hubbard attributes its design to this Chester architect. In its listing, Cadw makes a firm attribution to Douglas as architect.The house was built in 1898 for Mrs Perrins-Williams. It is constructed of squared rubble with red sandstone dressings, and it has a slate roof. It has two storeys and a cellar; the original house had four bays, and an extension was added in the 20th century. The upper storey of the outer bay on the west is slightly jettied and rests on corbels; its roof has a stepped gable. The east bay projects forward, is canted, and has a crenellated parapet. The central bays are gabled. All the window have stone frames with mullions and transoms. The entrance porch is in ashlar sandstone and over it is an inscription that includes the date of construction of the house, over which is a coat of arms.

Newtown West (formerly Newtown Llanllwchaiarn West or Llanllwchaiarn West) is the name of an electoral ward in the community of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, Powys, Wales.

Stingwern Hill, or ‘the Stingwern’ is a marilyn near Manafon in Mid Wales. Its summit is approximately 358 metres above sea level and has a prominence of 180 metres. The summit of the Stingwern lies within private land and is not accessible to the public.

Montgomery County Infirmary (Welsh: Ysbyty Sir Drefaldwyn) is a health facility in Llanfair Road, Newtown, Powys, Wales. It is managed by the Powys Teaching Health Board.

Adfa is a village in the Welsh county of Powys, in mid Wales. It is in the historic county of Montgomeryshire.

Llanllwchaiarn or Llanllwchaearn (Welsh: [ɬanɬuː′χaɨarn]) in Welsh) is a village on the outskirts of Newtown in Powys, Wales. It forms part of the community of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn. Aberbechan Hall was a Tudor mansion in the eastern part of the parish demolished in 1870. The wards of Llanllwchaiarn North and Llanllwchaiarn West elect up to four councillors to Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.
