Washfield

Castle Close is a circular earthwork located near Stoodleigh in Mid Devon, England at OS grid reference SS937181. It is described on maps as a settlement. Situated some 208 metres above sea level, overlooking the River Exe, it is most likely to be an Iron Age Hill fort or enclosure. While the earthworks do not appear as pronounced as others nearby at Huntsham Castle, Cranmore Castle and Cadbury Castle they are still in a classical layout typical of an Iron Age hill fort or enclosure. These other Devon Hill forts are all in plain view from the centre of the enclosure, pointing to their all having been in use at the same time.

Calverleigh (anciently Calwoodleigh) is a village and former civil parish and manor, now in the parish of Loxbeare, in the Mid Devon district, in the county of Devon, England. It is situated 2 miles north-west of Tiverton. The parish church is dedicated to St Mary. The resident lords of the manor were for many generations the Calwoodleigh family. In 1881 the parish had a population of 83. On 25 March 1885 the parish was abolished and merged with Loxbeare.

Tiverton High School is a state secondary school located in Tiverton, Devon, England. It is located on the outskirts of the town, and has a close working relationship with the co-sited Petroc (formerly East Devon College). The school currently has approximately 1,200 pupils aged 11–16; the school's capacity is 1425. The school last underwent a full Ofsted inspection in 2015, which resulted in a 'good' rating, which it retained in a short inspection in 2019.

Stoodleigh is a village and civil parish in the Mid Devon district of Devon, England, located 6 miles (10 km) north of Tiverton and 5 miles (8 km) south of Bampton. It is situated 800 feet (240 m) above the Exe Valley, close to the Devon / Somerset border. The centre of the village is a conservation area.In the past it formed part of Witheridge Hundred and it is within the Tiverton Deanery of the Church of England.

Loxbeare is a village and civil parish in Devon, England. The church is from the twelfth century and the tower is probably Norman. It is dedicated to St Michael and All Angels and is a grade II* listed building.In the Doomsday Book Loxbeare is recorded as Lochesbera.

Bolham is a village in the parish of Tiverton in Devon, England. It was the object of much attention in December 2011 when a Stags head, said to resemble that of the Exmoor Emperor was hung in the Hartnoll Hotel in Bolham. The head was removed after the hotel received threats. Adjoining Bolham is the historic estate of Knightshayes, Tiverton, (now owned by the National Trust) the owners of which at some time also owned Bolham.

Knightshayes Court is a Victorian country house near Tiverton, Devon, England, designed by William Burges for the Heathcoat-Amory family. Nikolaus Pevsner describes it as "an eloquent expression of High Victorian ideals in a country house of moderate size." The house is Grade I listed. The gardens are Grade II* listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Tiverton Cemetery is the burial ground for the town of Tiverton in Devon. The cemetery covers eight acres and is owned and maintained by Mid Devon Council.

St Paul's Church, Tiverton, is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England in Tiverton, Devon.

The Siege of Tiverton took place in October 1645 during the First English Civil War, when a Royalist garrison surrendered to a detachment of the New Model Army. Defeats at Naseby in June, and Langport in July destroyed the Royalist field armies, leaving them confined to parts of the West Country, and isolated strongpoints elsewhere. When Bristol surrendered on 10 September, their last significant position was the port of Exeter. To isolate Exeter, the Parliamentarians first needed to capture outposts such as Tiverton Castle, held by a garrison of around 200. When their heavy artillery opened fire on 19 October, one of the first shots severed the drawbridge chains, and the garrison capitulated.
