Mount Wire (also known as Wire Mountain or Big Beacon) is a mountain located on the east side of Salt Lake City, Utah with an elevation of 7,146 feet (2,178 m). The mountain is named after Lester Wire, an American policeman of Salt Lake City, Utah, who in 1912 developed the first red-green electric traffic light. Mount Wire is a common spot for adventurous hikers and has many access trails, some created by nearby Red Butte Gardens. The east side of the University of Utah offers direct access to trails to the summit. Mount Wire formerly could be identified from other nearby mountains by its two passive microwave repeaters near the summit. These billboard like structures were used to bounce microwave signals over the mountain to the north-eastern parts of Utah. Mount Wire also houses an old airway beacon directly on the summit. An interesting man-made rock outcropping about halfway up the mountain looks like several lawn chairs in a row, and is a common rest stop for hikers. This stop offers views of Salt Lake City, and the Wasatch Mountains.

The Mountain Dell Dam provides a water equalizing and storage reservoir for Salt Lake City, Utah located 10 miles (16 km) east of the city in northeastern Salt Lake County, near Interstate 80 in Parley's Canyon. Designed by John S. Eastwood, and constructed between 1914 and 1925, the dam is an example of a mixed buttress dam and multiple arch dam construction. At the time the plans were made, the city was in need of a sufficient supply of water, especially during late summer and the middle of winter. With the completion of the dam, the city had an available storage capacity of 850 million US gallons (3,200,000 m3), and distributing or equalizing capacity of 24 million US gallons (91,000 m3) compared to 9 million US gallons (34,000 m3) previously. The dam was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.Mountain Dell Dam is listed as in "poor" condition and is under repair.

The This is the Place Monument is a historical monument at the This Is the Place Heritage Park, located on the east side of Salt Lake City, Utah, at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. It is named in honor of Brigham Young's famous statement that the Mormon pioneers should settle in the Salt Lake Valley. On 24 July 1847, upon first viewing the valley, Young stated: "This is the right place, drive on." Mahonri M. Young, a grandson of Brigham Young, sculpted the monument between 1939 and 1947 at Weir Farm in Connecticut. Young was awarded $50,000 to build the monument in 1939 and he was assisted by Spero Anargyros. It stands as a monument to the Mormon pioneers as well as the explorers and settlers of the American West. It was dedicated by George Albert Smith, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on 24 July 1947, the hundredth anniversary of the pioneers entering the Salt Lake Valley. It replaced a much smaller monument located nearby. In the mid-1970s, a living history museum, called This Is the Place Heritage Park was built at a site adjoining the monument. It began with the restoration or replication of historical pioneer-era buildings from around Utah. It has greatly expanded since then and has become a popular venue for receptions, corporate parties, family reunions and youth events.

Utah's Hogle Zoo is a 42-acre (17 ha) zoo located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It houses animals from diverse ecosystems. It is located at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. Hogle (pronounced "ho-gul") is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).

This is the Place Heritage Park is a Utah State Park that is located on the east side of Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, at the foot of the Wasatch Range and near the mouth of Emigration Canyon. A non-profit foundation manages the park.

The College of Saint Mary-of-the-Wasatch was a private, Catholic women's college, later St. Mary of the Wasatch High School, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1875 to 1969. It was operated by the Sisters of the Holy Cross primarily as a sisters' college. The school was located in the eastern reaches of Salt Lake City, in the foothills of the Wasatch Range. In addition to being home to the college and high school, and later a high school only, it also housed a convent. Starting in 1931, it was affiliated with the Sisters-run Holy Cross Hospital nursing college, which itself closed in 1973, a year after the school was demolished in 1972 to make way for a housing subdivision. One of the stone gates of the entrance was incorporated into a house. It is the last place where teenager Reed Taylor Jeppson was seen in 1964. Its records are held in the Sisters of the Holy Cross Archives in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Emery County Cabin is one of the last few historic frontier post offices still known to exist in the United States. The cabin was constructed in 1879, and became the official post office of Muddy Creek (now Emery), Emery County, Utah in the 1880s. The cabin is currently located in the Utah State Park system at This Is The Place Heritage Park.

The Brigham Young Forest Farmhouse is a historic home in Salt Lake City, Utah. The building was once owned by Brigham Young, an early leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and first governor of Utah Territory. Built between 1861 and 1863, it was located on Young's Forest Farm near the southern boundary of Salt Lake City. Restored from 1969 to 1970, the home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and subsequently relocated to This Is the Place Heritage Park in 1975.

The Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU) is a museum located in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The museum shows exhibits of natural history subjects, with an emphasis on Utah and the Intermountain West. The mission of the museum is to illuminate the natural world and the place of humans within it. A new building, named the Rio Tinto Center, opened in November 2011. The museum is part of the University of Utah and is located in the university's Research Park.

The Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI), formerly University Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI), is an assemblage of psychiatric treatment, education, and research programs based in Salt Lake City, Utah. HMHI is a component of University of Utah Health Hospitals & Clinics. The institute was dedicated on 14 January 2021 after the Huntsman family, in November 2019, committed $150 million over 10 years to create the institute The main campus of the institute is located in University of Utah Research Park in Salt Lake City, and includes a 170-bed psychiatric hospital for the treatment of mental disorders (including substance use disorders). The institute also provides day treatment, intensive outpatient, and regular outpatient services for children, adolescents and adults, at the main campus, and in other Salt Lake City area locations. University of Utah Health, of which Huntsman Mental Health Institute is a component, is "the only academic medical center in the state of Utah and the Mountain West", featuring a medical school and four other professional health profession schools (dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and public health), plus several research initiatives, including neuroscience.

Red Butte Garden and Arboretum consists of a botanical garden, arboretum, and amphitheatre operated by the University of Utah, in the foothills of the Wasatch Range in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. It is open year-round to the public. Red Butte Garden contains over 100 acres (0.40 km2) of botanical gardens and several miles of hiking trails through native vegetation. Red Butte Creek runs within the northern part of the garden.

Mount Van Cott is a mountain located in the Wasatch Mountain Range immediately east of the University of Utah with an elevation of 6,351 feet (1,936 m). The mountain is a common spot for hikers as well as mountain bikers and has many access trails. The east side of the University of Utah offers direct access to trails to the summit. Most trails to the summit branch off of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The most obvious of these trails is a scar on the mountain that is located on its southwestern flank. The mountain is named after Lucy May Van Cott, the first dean of women (1907–1931) at the University of Utah and daughter of John Van Cott.
