Rafael Landívar University (Universidad Rafael Landívar) is a private Catholic coeducational higher education institution run by the Society of Jesus in Vista Hermosa III Guatemala. It was founded by the Jesuits in 1961. The main campus is in Zone 16 of Guatemala City and is known as Vista Hermosa III. There are satellite campuses in Quetzaltenango, Huehuetenango, Cobán, Zacapa, and other parts of the country. Many recent Guatemalan presidents have studied at the university, including Ramiro de León Carpio, Álvaro Arzú, and Óscar Berger.

The 2017 Guatemala orphanage fire occurred on 8 March 2017, at the Virgen de la Asunción Safe Home in San José Pinula, Guatemala. Forty-one girls, aged between 14 and 17 years old, were killed when a fire broke out at the orphanage. The girls had been locked in a schoolroom following protests, riots and an escape attempt which occurred the day before. In the aftermath of the fire, three government officials—including the country's Secretary of Social Welfare—were arrested and charged with crimes such as wrongful death and negligence.

The Atrium Building (Edificio Atrium) is a skyscraper in Guatemala City, Guatemala. It is a residential building located at Diagonal 6 16-01, in Zone10 of the city. At 84 metres or 275 feet , as of 2009 it is the second tallest building in Guatemala. The building has 28 floors and 138 rooms and was completed in 2008.It was designed by Solares y Lara Arquitectos and constructed by the Aicsa Corporation.

Santa Catarina Pinula is a town, with a population of 70,982 (2018 census) and a municipality in the Guatemala Department of Guatemala. Its name, according to Guatemalan colonial historian Francisco Antonio de Fuentes y Guzmán in his book Recordación Florida comes from: Santa Catarina: the name of it saint patron Catherine of Alexandria Pinula: from pipil "Flour of water" ("Pinul": Flour of Pinole and "Ha": Water). This may come from the Mexican natives who came alongside Alvarado's forces.

The Centro Comercial Próceres, formerly known as Gran Centro Los Próceres is an extensive shopping complex in Guatemala City, Guatemala. It is run by the Los Próceres group which operates across Latin America and was opened to the public in September 1993. Located at 6 calle 2–00 in the centre of Zone 10 of the city, at its time of inauguration it was one of the largest and most modern shopping malls in Guatemala City. The mall sells clothes, shoes, furniture and electronics and contains many restaurants with cuisine from around the globe, fast-food and ice-cream kiosks. It was also one of the important centers in the city for viewing films, with originally 5 major cinemas located in the complex. The shopping complex is pet-friendly, but also faces great competition with a vast number of shopping malls being built in Guatemala City since its inauguration.

Galileo University is a private university in Guatemala City. It was founded and authorized on October 31, 2000. Initially, it was the School of Computer Engineering (FISICC) of Universidad Francisco Marroquín. It stands out for its technological contribution in higher education in Guatemala.

El Obelisco or Monumento a los Próceres de la Independencia is a monument in Guatemala City, Guatemala built in 1935 under dictator Jorge Ubico and designed by Rafael Pérez De León. It commemorates the independence of Central America. the 18-metre high, 221-ton stone structure is situated on a huge roundabout called Plaza del Obelisco "Obelisk Square", where the Avenida Reforma, Boulevard Los Próceres, Avenida Las Americas and Boulevard Liberacion meet. The neoclassic Palacio de La Reforma once stood at this place, until it was destroyed by the earthquakes of 1917/1918. In 1950, under president Juan José Arévalo, a flame of liberty was installed by the column.
