Barton County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,637. Its county seat is Lamar. The county was organized in 1855 and named after U.S. Senator David Barton from Missouri.President Harry S. Truman was born in Barton County in 1884. The female bandit, Little Britches, was born in Barton County in 1879.

The Harry S Truman Birthplace State Historic Site is a state-owned property in Lamar, Barton County, Missouri, maintained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, preserving the 1+1⁄2-story childhood home of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States. The future president was born here on May 8, 1884, in the downstairs southwest bedroom. The home was purchased by the state in 1957 and dedicated as a historic site in 1959 at a ceremony attended by Truman himself. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

Coon Creek is a stream in Jasper and Barton counties of southwest Missouri. It is a tributary of the North Fork Spring River. The stream headwaters are in northeast Jasper County at 37°17′04″N 94°04′45″W and the confluence with the North Fork Spring River is at 37°21′29″N 94°18′41″W. The stream source is located southwest of Dudenville and it flows to the northwest and then west crossing the Jasper–Barton county line several times before flowing into the North Fork Spring River in southern Barton County after passing under U. S. Route 71 about one mile north of Jasper.Coon Creek was named after the raccoon native to the area.
