The National University of the Northeast (Spanish: Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, UNNE) is an Argentine national university. It is located in the cities of Corrientes and Resistencia, capital cities of the Provinces of Corrientes and Chaco respectively, and was established on December 4, 1956. Known as the University of the Sun, it was the seventh-largest university in Argentina by student enrollment numbers as of 2017.

The Instituto de Botánica del Nordeste, or Ibone, is a large botanical institute at the National University of the Northeast and major regional herbarium which contains over 400,000 plant specimens from northeastern Argentina and neighboring countries. It was founded by Ing. Agr. Antonio Krapovickas and Dr. Carmen L. Cristóbal, husband and wife, who started the collection at over 250,000 specimens with the help of students whom they trained. Some of these students who now stand out professionally include: Aveliano Fernández, Camilo Quarín, Guillermo Norrmann, Silvia Ferrucci, and Viviana Solís-Neffa, among others.

Corrientes (Spanish pronunciation: [koˈrjentes] ; Guaraní: Taragüí, literally: "Currents") is the capital city of the province of Corrientes, Argentina, located on the eastern shore of the Paraná River, about 1,000 km (621 mi) from Buenos Aires and 300 km (186 mi) from Posadas, on National Route 12. It has a population of 346,334 according to the 2010 Census. It lies opposite its twin city, Resistencia, Chaco. Corrientes has a mix of colonial and modern architecture, several churches and a number of lapacho, ceibo, jacaranda and orange trees. It is also home to one of the biggest carnival and chamamé celebrations in the country. The annual average temperature is 21.3 °C (70.3 °F). The annual rainfall is around 1,500 millimetres (59 in).

The River Plate Basin University (in Spanish: Universidad de la Cuenca del Plata - UCP) is a non-profit private university founded in 1991. Located in the province of Corrientes, Argentina, it has an undergraduate enrollment of 1,100 students and a graduate enrollment of 600. The university is focused primarily on social sciences and engineering. The undergraduates majors available are accountancy, business administration, law, humanities.

The General Manuel Belgrano Bridge (Spanish: Puente General Manuel Belgrano) is a road bridge that joins the Argentine cities of Corrientes (capital of the Corrientes Province in the Mesopotamia) and Resistencia (capital of Chaco in the Chaco Region) over the course of the Paraná River (near the confluence with the Paraguay River). It was opened on May 10, 1973. The bridge joins Corrientes' Provincial Route 12 with Chaco's Provincial Routes 11 and 16. The main part of the bridge measures 1,700 meters (5,600 ft) in length and stands at 35 meters (115 ft) over the river, with cable-stayed section with spans 163.5 m (536 ft) + 245 m (804 ft) + 163.5 m (536 ft). It has two A-shaped main towers that are 83 meters (272 ft) high. The road is 8.3 meters (27 ft) wide and has two lanes, plus two lateral pedestrian ways, each 1.8 meters (5.9 ft) wide. In 1999 the province of Corrientes was in the midst of a popular uprising, with protestors asking for the resignation of the provincial government. On 1999-12-17 the traffic over the bridge was blocked by demonstrators. The Gendarmerie intervened to suppress the protest, and killed two people. As of 2006 the investigations about the responsibility for these killings are still in progress.

Barrio San Pedro Pescador is a village and municipality in Chaco Province in northern Argentina, located on the thin coastal levee of the Paraná River. The town is located in the Primero de Mayo Department and reports administratively to the Colonia Benitez municipality. It occupies the left side of the Chaco end of the General Manuel Belgrano Bridge, which links the province of Chaco with the city of Corrientes. The low-lying and floodable characteristics of the right bank of the Parana River are not conducive for human settlement, San Pedro Pescador being Chaco's only urban settlement located on the main channel of this river. Paradoxically the Parana River is the main source of livelihood (fishing) and its main threat, because of the periodic floods that force temporary abandonment by its inhabitants. Its inhabitants maintain educational, work or business links with both Gran Resistencia as well as Gran Corrientes. It was declared a Patrimonio Histórico, Cultural y Natural (Historical, Cultural and Natural Heritage) because of its riverfront location, traditional fishing as the main breadwinner of its inhabitants and for being the head of the construction of the interprovincial bridge.

Río Negro (Spanish for "black river") is a river in the Chaco Province in Argentina. It crosses the Chaco National Park and flows southeast. Near its mouth it flows by the cities of Puerto Tirol, Resistencia, and Barranqueras, where it finally reaches Barranqueras River, an arm of the Paraná River.The river has changed its course over the flatlands several times over the years, leaving wetlands, meanders and lagoons. This took place because of three different factors; frequent droughts, accumulation of sediment, and human-made deviations of the riverbed. Sections of the river are currently contaminated by industrial waste, mainly from the leather tanning industry. The Río Negro is of historical importance to Resistencia, capital of Chaco Province, since most immigrants that populated Chaco reached the city in boats travelling up-river. On February 2 every year, the Festival of the Canoes and Boats is celebrated, commemorating the day of the arrival of the first steamboat that brought Friulian pioneers to the province.

Corrientes International Airport (IATA: CNQ, ICAO: SARC) (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional de Corrientes), also known as Doctor Fernando Piragine Niveyro International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Doctor Fernando Piragine Niveyro and Cambá Punta) is an airport in Corrientes Province, Argentina, serving the city of Corrientes, built in 1961 while the terminal was completed in 1964. A new terminal and a new control tower were constructed between 2009 and 2011. The old buildings were demolished. Between April 2014 and October 2015, Corrientes Airport was closed because of works on its runway. Flights were rescheduled to Resistencia International Airport, about 20 miles (32 km) to the west.

Barrio Esperanza is a barrio under the administration of the city of Corrientes in Corrientes Province, Argentina. It is essentially a village in far southern suburbs, northwest of the village of Riachuelo. According to the 2001 population census conducted by INDEC its population was 2236 inhabitants. The barrio was established in 1990. It is roughly 5 kilometres from the right bank of Arroyo Riachuelo and its mouth on the Paraná River and 3 km from National Route 12 (Ruta Nacional 12).

The Battle of Riachuelo was a large and decisive naval battle of the Paraguayan War between Paraguay and the Empire of Brazil. By late 1864, Paraguay had scored a series of victories in the war, but on 11 June 1865, its naval defeat by the Brazilians on the Paraná River began to turn the tide in favor of the allies.This was the largest naval battle fought between two South American countries.

Barranqueras is a city in the southeast of the province of Chaco, Argentina, on a small tributary river on the right-hand-side (western) shore of the Paraná River, only 7 km from the provincial capital Resistencia and within its metropolitan area. It has over 50,000 inhabitants according to the 2001 census [INDEC], being the third most populated city in the province. Barranqueras is located in a commercial node of the Mercosur, and has a port on Kilometer 1,198 of the Paraná, managed by the provincial state since 1991. Alicia Azula was elected Mayor of Barranqueras in 2003 and she was re-elected twice more.

Puerto Vilelas is a village and municipality in Chaco Province, in northern Argentina.
