Freiburg (Breisgau) Güterbahnhof is a German train station. It serves as a goods station in Freiburg im Breisgau. It was erected between 1901 and 1905 in order to separate goods traffic from Freiburg's main train station (Hauptbahnhof), since the Hauptbahnhof could not longer deal with the increased turnover.

Institut für Mikrosystemtechnik (IMTEK; "Department of Microsystems Engineering") at the University of Freiburg is Germany's largest research institute dedicated to all aspects of MEMS and Microsystems Engineering. It currently has more than 650 graduate students and 23 research groups. The department is active in both fundamental and applied research.

The University Medical Center Freiburg (Universitätsklinikum Freiburg) in Freiburg, Germany is the teaching hospital and part of the medical research unit of the University of Freiburg and home to its Faculty of Medicine. The medical center is one of the largest hospitals in Europe. Medical services at the University of Freiburg date back to the university's founding in 1457, as the Faculty of Medicine was one of the four founding faculties.

The Europa-Park Stadion, also known as the Mooswaldstadion (German pronunciation: [ˈmoːswaltˌʃtaːdi̯ɔn] ) by fans, is a football stadium in Freiburg, Germany. It primarily serves as the home stadium of SC Freiburg, replacing the club's former home, the Dreisamstadion. It is located in a part of the city called Brühl, immediately to the west of Freiburg Airport.

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (German: Max-Planck-Institut für Immunbiologie und Epigenetik) in Freiburg, Germany is an interdisciplinary research institute that conducts basic research in modern immunobiology, developmental biology and epigenetics. It was founded in 1961 as the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and is one of 86 institutions of the Max Planck Society. Originally named the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology, it was renamed to its current name in 2010 as it widened its research thrusts to the study of epigenetics. The researchers of the institute study the development of the immune system and analyse the genes and molecules which are important for its function. They also seek to establish which factors control the maturation of immune cells and how chemical changes of the DNA influence the immune defense. The biologist Georges J. F. Köhler, a co-recipient of the 1984 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, was director of the institute from 1984 until his death in 1995.

Stühlinger is a district to the west of the historic city center of Freiburg im Breisgau. In December 2013, 18,300 residents lived in the neighborhood. There are three boroughs: Stühlinger-Beurbarung, Stühlinger-Eschholz and Alt-Stühlinger. Although historically correct, the railroad Freiburg-Colmar is the north end of the Stühlinger and therefore Stühlinger-Beurbarung is not part of the district anymore. The district borders the area of the central train station of the Deutsche Bahn AG to the east, the river Dreisam to the south, tracks of the railroad freight transportation to the west and the district Brühl to the north.

The Uhlenhuth Research Laboratory of the University of Freiburg, originally known as the State Research Laboratory (German: Staatliches Forschungslaboratorium), was a research institute in the field of medical microbiology and infectious diseases in Freiburg, Germany. It was established in 1936 with funding from the German Research Council for the world-renowned microbiologist and immunologist Paul Uhlenhuth to provide a platform for his continued research after he had retired from his university chair at the University of Freiburg, and Uhlenhuth served as the institute's director until his death in 1957 at the age of 87. The scientific staff consisted of Uhlenhuth and a small number of researchers. As the name suggests, it was a state institute in the Republic of Baden and later in Baden-Württemberg. It was originally an independent research institution, albeit closely associated with the University of Freiburg, but in the early 1950s, the institute formally became part of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Freiburg. After Uhlenhuth's death, it was integrated in the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene. The institute was located in Hebelstraße 42 in central Freiburg, in the same building as the university's Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene, and within the central university campus area.

Franz Siegel Stadion, is an arena in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. It is primarily used for ice hockey, and is the home to the EHC Freiburg of the DEL 2. It opened in the late 1960s and holds 5,800 spectators.

The Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics (German: Fraunhofer-Institut für Kurzzeitdynamik), commonly known as the Ernst Mach Institute and also by the abbreviation Fraunhofer EMI, is a facility of the Fraunhofer Society in Germany. The Institute is based in Freiburg im Breisgau. Its activities are applied research and development in the fields of materials science and high-speed measurement techniques. The Institute also has offices in Efringen-Kirchen and Kandern. The name "Ernst Mach Institute" is named for the physicist Ernst Mach (1838–1916), who first used high-speed photography to visualize ballistic and gas-dynamic processes.

The Wentzinger-Gymnasium Freiburg is a grammar school in Freiburg, Germany, that not only has a scientific and a linguistic profile, but is one of only 38 schools in Baden-Württemberg that has a music profile and also has a bilingual profile for French, which leads to the AbiBac, a double high school diploma. At present, around 1,000 pupils are taught at the Wentzinger grammar school, most of them from the city of Freiburg and the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald (Black Forest). The name of the grammar school refers to the Freiburg artist and honorary citizen Johann Christian Wentzinger (1710–1797). The school returned to a nine-year curriculum. The so-called G8 curriculum that leads to the High School diploma in only eight years instead of nine, is no longer offered. This applies for all new registrations. Ongoing G8 classes are maintained.

The International Moss Stock Center (IMSC) is a biorepository which is specialized in collecting, preserving and distributing moss plants of a high value of scientific research. The IMSC is located at the Faculty of Biology, Department of Plant Biotechnology, at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg, Germany.

The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) is the international research college of the University of Freiburg, Germany. The institute was initially part of the university's proposal for funding in the Excellence Initiative in 2007, an initiative by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the German Research Foundation with the aim of promoting both cutting-edge research and enhancing the international success of German higher education institutions. After the University of Freiburg had been chosen as one of nine "universities of excellence", FRIAS officially took up operations on 1 April 2008. It aims to promote high-level research, develop interdisciplinary research fields, and assist young researchers in their development. FRIAS is loosely modeled after other similar institutions, such as the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, whose director Prof. Dr. Peter Goddard held the inaugural address at the official presentation of FRIAS in May, 2008 at the University of Freiburg. The University of Freiburg has applied for FRIAS's funding to be continued in the second round of the Excellence Initiative.
