Whangamoa Saddle

The Teal River is a river of the Nelson Region of New Zealand's South Island. It flows north from its origins in hilly country to the west of the city of Nelson to reach the Wakapuaka River.

Hira is a small settlement approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) northeast of Nelson, New Zealand. It sits in the valley of the Wakapuaka River.

The Lud River is a river of the Nelson Region of New Zealand's South Island. It flows north from a ridge 10 kilometres (6 mi) east of Nelson city centre, reaching the Wakapuaka River close to the latter's outfall into Delaware Bay, an indentation in the eastern shore of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere.

Wakapuaka is a small township lying to the north of Nelson, New Zealand. It lies on State Highway 6 inland from the northern end of Nelson Haven, between Marybank and Hira. The road to Glenduan joins SH 6 at Wakapuaka.

Todds Valley is a small township to the north of Nelson, New Zealand. It lies to the southeast of State Highway 6, immediately to the north of Marybank, New Zealand at the northern tip of Nelson Haven.

Maungatapu is a mountain in New Zealand located on the border of the Nelson, New Zealand and Marlborough Regions. It lies in the Bryant Range. The mountain is 1014 metres high. Maungatapu is Māori for "sacred mountain". The mountain was the location of the infamous Maungatapu murders.The Maungatapu saddle is the main route for electrical power lines from Nelson to Marlborough. The mountain has a rough track which links Pelorus Bridge with the Maitai Valley. This is used for mountain biking and walking only. Driving and motorcycling have been banned by Nelson City Council since 2010.

Dodson Valley is a sub-suburb in Nelson, New Zealand, located by heading north into Atawhai. It borders between the coast Nelson Haven and further inland, featuring the main St. Dodson Valley Road.

Marybank is a suburb of Nelson, New Zealand. It lies on State Highway 6 close to the northern end of Nelson Haven, between Atawhai and Wakapuaka.Marybank Reserve is the settlement's local park.The Boulder Bank, a rare rocky bank located offshore of Marybank, is accessible from just north of the settlement. It is managed by the Department of Conservation.

Cawthron Atkinson Observatory (formerly Atkinson Observatory) is sited in the grounds of Clifton Terrace School, Nelson, New Zealand, after previously being situated at Pipers Park for many years.First operated in 1883, the observatory was founded by Arthur Atkinson, a keen amateur astronomer and Member of Parliament for Nelson. A newer observatory building opened in 1982. The now relocated and renamed observatory formally opened on 12 April 2008, after completing a major refurbishment of the structure and 129-year-old telescope. This work was funded by contributions from various individuals and groups, such as a NZ$50,000 donation by the Cawthron Trust. The observatory is administered by the Astronomy Section of the Nelson Science Society, Royal Society of New Zealand. Star Parties are held once a month at the observatory, and society meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at Cawthron Institute, 98 Halifax Street East, Nelson.

Atawhai is a suburb of Nelson, New Zealand. It lies north of Nelson and is the location of Wakapuaka Cemetery, a burial place since 1861. It also has a coastline on Nelson Haven and access to Boulder Bank from State Highway 6.

Sharland Creek flows south and joins Packer Creek before flowing into the Maitai / Mahitahi River near Waahi Takaaro Golf Course in Nelson, New Zealand. Sharland Creek takes its name from an early European landowner, James Henry Sharland, who bought land in the area now named Sharland Hill. The land remained in the family until 1969 when it was bought by the State Forest Service.Restoration of the Maitai River and all of its tributaries was the focus of Project Maitai / Mahitahi, a Nelson City Council and community initiative which ran from 2014 to 2018.

The Bryant Range is a range of low mountains in the northern South Island of New Zealand. They form part of the boundary of the Nelson and Tasman Districts with Marlborough Region, as well as forming the western boundary of Mount Richmond Forest Park The range is traversed by State Highway 6 at the Rai Saddle close to its northern end. The Bryant Range runs roughly northeast to southwest for some 35 kilometres, starting south of Delaware Bay and extending to its junction with the larger Richmond Range south of the town of Richmond. It is bounded in the east by the valleys of the Pelorus, Rai, and Ronga Rivers, and in the west by the Whangamoa River, Roding, and Teal Rivers. The range has several peaks over 1000 metres in height, notably Saddle Hill (1215m) and Mount Duppa (1133m).
