Brooklands, Nelson

Wakapuaka Cemetery is a cemetery located in Brooklands, Nelson, New Zealand. "Wakapuaka" is Māori for "heaps of aka leaves".

Founders Heritage Park is a museum in Nelson, New Zealand, housing a number of groups with historical themes, including transport. A short heritage railway line is operated by the Nelson Railway Society. Several shops operate in the museum, selling bakery and other artisan foods, as well as locally-made arts & crafts.

The Nelson Railway Society operates a short heritage railway line in the Founders Heritage Park, Nelson, New Zealand. The society has recovered and now utilises station buildings from a couple of former stations on the Nelson Section, including the Tui Railway Station building. The society uses a DSA class diesel locomotive on running days, and restored a WF class steam locomotive WF 403. 403 has not yet been steamed nor is in usual service due to its six driving wheels being unable to negotiate the curves of the society's line. The society was originally incorporated as the "Grand Tapawera Railroad Company" with the intention of establishing and operating a line on the original formation of the Nelson Section near Motupiko.

Cabragh House (school and residence) is a late Victorian, timber house at 48 Weka Street in Nelson, New Zealand built circa 1897. It is a historic site for exemplarising late Victorian furnishings and provincial New Zealand vernacular architecture. The neighbouring Amber House, the former site of the Cabragh House School, is pending registration as a New Zealand Historic Place.

Amber House is one of the older two-storey villas in New Zealand's third founded city of Nelson in the top of the South Island at 46 Weka Street. It is a traditional colonial-style construction using native Rimu and Matai timbers with an external brick chimney that originally served four large fireplaces. The original, highly decorated, cast iron sewage vent pipes are still intact and visible on the exterior of the building.

Nelson Haven is an extensive area of mudflats northeast of Nelson, New Zealand. It is separated from Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere by the Boulder Bank and over 8 km long and up to 2 km wide. The area is regularly completely drowned and exposed by tidal action and supports a large population of mud crabs.

The Wood is a suburb of the South Island, New Zealand city of Nelson. It lies just to the north-east of the city centre and adjoins it. The suburb incorporates Botanical Reserve, a section of Nelson's town belt that includes the trigonometrical geographic centre of New Zealand, Botanical Hill. The reserve borders the Botanical Gardens to the east and Branford Park to the west.The suburb also has four other public reserves: Guppy Park, Neale Park, Peace Grove and Pepper Tree Park.

Botanical Gardens is a cricket ground and public reserve in Nelson, Nelson Region, New Zealand.It is located in Nelson's town belt, next to Botanical Reserve. The trigonometrical 'Centre of New Zealand', Botanical Hill, is located beside the park.The first recorded cricket match held on the ground came in January 1873 when Nelson played Auckland. The ground later held a first-class match when Nelson played Wellington on 31 December 1883, which Nelson won by 39 runs. Besides cricket, the ground also saw one of the first rugby matches to be played in New Zealand, between Nelson College and a group of local players on 14 May 1870. After Trafalgar Park's development as Nelson's main sports venue in the 1880s the Botanical Gardens was no longer used for major sports events. The ground, however, has continued to exist, and is used today by Athletic College Old Boys Cricket Club.

Maitai is an inner suburb of Nelson, New Zealand. It lies at the western edge of Nelson city centre, immediately to the south of The Wood, on the northern bank of the Maitai River. A monument representing the location of the geographic centre of New Zealand is located in Maitai.The population was 609 in the 2013 census. This was an increase of 9 people since the 2006 Census.

Brook Stream, or Waimarama, is a major tributary of the Maitai / Mahitahi River in Nelson, South Island, New Zealand. Nelson's first water scheme was on Brook Stream, with a weir and pipeline constructed in 1867 in what is now the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary. Demand began to exceed supply, and a second weir was constructed to create the Top Dam in 1909. By the 1930s it was insufficient for Nelson's growing population. The Roding River waterworks scheme was completed in 1941 and an intake on the Maitai Mahitahi South Branch completed in 1963. The Brook Dam was decommissioned in 2000. Restoration of Brook Stream, and waterways in the Maitai catchment, has been a major focus of Project Maitai, a Nelson City Council initiative to improve the health of the Maitai River and all its tributaries.

The Boulder Bank (Māori: Te Taero a Keropa or Te Tāhuna o Tama-i-ea) is a very unusual naturally formed landform in Nelson, New Zealand. It is a 13 kilometre long stretch of rocky substrate which begins at the Mackay Bluff and ends at the Cut of the Nelson Harbour. Haulashore Island was once a part of the Boulder Bank, but the Cut made it an island, and it is no longer connected to the Boulder Bank. The Boulder Bank separates Tasman Bay and the Nelson Haven and is managed as a scenic reserve by the Department of Conservation. Land access is gained along Boulder Bank Drive, signposted at the northern end of Nelson Haven on State Highway 6.

The Maitai River (also known as the Mahitahi River) is the largest river in the city of Nelson, in the north of New Zealand's South Island. The river stretches from the Bryant Range, situated to the east (inland) of Nelson, where it flows towards the city, flowing west through the heart of the city and into the Tasman bay at Nelson Haven. The catchment of the river covers some 9000 hectares, and has two branches in the upper catchment, the north meets a dam, where the south travels west into the middle catchment, from where it takes its final journey through the urban area of the city before meeting the ocean.The Maitai river provides habitats for a plethora of diverse wildlife, at all catchments of the river and its surrounding ecosystems. This sees that many species of bird, fish, mammals and reptiles use the river as both a home and a source of food and drinking water, as well as for extensive amounts of vegetation to grow around the abundant water-source. There has also been discoveries of unique life in the Maitai River as well as surrounding rivers in the Nelson region.Social and leisure uses for the river range from walking trails to swimming holes, where either the river's water that meets the city is used by the population, or its inhabitants walk upstream towards a less urbanised section of the river. Walking trails cover majority of the entrance of the river to the city, creating a source of exercise for the residents of Nelson and surrounding homes. There are also tourist and leisure spots and activities that use the river.The river is also utilised by the council and government in more economic and resource management ways, where a dam and reservoir has been placed on the river as well as the water from the river is used to supply the neighbouring city of Nelson with water. The river is also used as a storm-water channel and flood channel for Nelson City.
