Van Buren Terrace Historic District

The American Sheet and Tin Mill Apartment Building, one of the Edison Concept Houses, is a historic building at 633 West 4th Avenue in Gary, Indiana. The building was designed by D. F. Creighton and built in 1910. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 17, 2009. It was built by the United States Sheet & Tin Plate Co. Thousands moved to Gary in the early 1900s for work in burgeoning steel industry. Providing housing quickly and affordably, Thomas Edison's 1906 proposal of pouring a concrete mixture into a single mold for the facades, roof, stairs, walls, and other parts of a house was adopted for company housing (Edison was not directly involved).

It was established by the Drexel Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc., and is managed by American Quality Schools, Inc. The school is named after Sr Thea Bowman, an African-American Catholic nun, teacher, and scholar in the 20th century.

The Wilbur Wynant House (also known as 600 Fillmore or simply the Wynant House) was a house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in Gary, Indiana, United States. During the end of the house's lifespan it was in poor condition; in the mid-2000s it was purchased by a man who planned to restore it, but it was destroyed by fire on January 9, 2006.

Gary Metro Center (also known as the Adam Benjamin Metro Center) is a multimodal commuter hub operated by the Gary Public Transportation Corporation. It was built in 1984 as an elevated replacement of the previously ground-level Broadway Street Station. It serves as the central bus terminal and the Downtown Gary station on the South Shore Line. It also serves as a stop for Greyhound Lines and other intercity bus systems. It is one of three NICTD electric train stations in Gary, and serves the Genesis Convention Center and the U.S. Steel Yard baseball park, home of the Gary SouthShore RailCats baseball team. The RailCats's full name, SouthShore RailCats, honors the South Shore Line. The station is just south of the Indiana Toll Road (I-90) and the disused Gary Union Station. The tracks of the former Baltimore and Ohio (now CSX) and New York Central Railroads (now Norfolk Southern) also lie near the station.

The Genesis Convention Center is a 7,000-seat multi-purpose arena located in Gary, Indiana, United States. It was home to the Gary Splash of the Independent Basketball Association from 2010 to 2013. It was also formerly home to the Gary Steelheads basketball team and had held the Miss USA pageant twice, in 2001 and 2002. The venue was also a convention center, with a 24,472-square-foot (2,273.5 m2) arena floor and a 49-foot (15 m) high ceiling. Attached to the arena is Indiana Hall, which was used as a theater and ballroom seating up to 1,200 for small concerts, plays, banquets and other special events.

Downtown West, is a neighborhood in north-central Gary, Indiana. Emerson and Downtown West combine to form what is known as Downtown Gary. It was part of the original plat built by the United States Steel Corporation. It is located East of Grant Street, south of the Grand Calumet River, north of 9th Avenue and west of Broadway. As of 2000, Downtown West had a population of 4,684. Downtown West borders Emerson to the east, Ambridge Mann to the west, and Midtown to the south.The Downtown West neighborhood, like Emerson, suffers from extensive vacant lots and abandoned buildings. About 36% of the housing stock are owner-occupied. The Adam Benjamin Metro Center is located just north of 4th Avenue. It is operated by the Gary Public Transportation Corporation and acts as a multimodal hub. Downtown West is served by the Gary Main Post Office and Jefferson Elementary School. The neighborhood has three parks Jackson Park, Borman Square and Rees Park. Pierce Playground, and the smaller portion of Gateway are also located within Downtown West. The Lake County Superior Courthouse is located in Downtown West along with the Gary Police Department, the Gary Housing Authority offices and the Main Branch of the Gary Public Library. The Genesis Convention Center is located along Broadway and 5th Avenue. It formerly hosted professional basketball. It now host events and concerts. Much of the commercial property along Broadway and Washington Street is now vacant. The neighborhood is served by the Indiana Toll Road directly to its north, which has exits at Broadway and Grant and by US 12/20 also to the north. Public transportation is provided by the buses of the Gary Public Transportation Corporation, which run along Broadway and 5th Avenue.
