Port Soderick railway station

Port Soderick (Manx: Purt Soderick) is a small hamlet to the south of Douglas, capital of the Isle of Man, once famed for its pleasure grounds and beach. In later years there have been various attempts to rejuvenate the area, all of which have been unsuccessful to date. It still has a station on the steam railway. The beach area had its own small promenade and hotel (later named "The Anchor" but now closed and abandoned), a suspended walkway (now closed and deemed unsafe), former oyster beds, and a sea lion pool, a large building formerly housing an amusement arcade, paddling pool (long since filled in by shingle from the incoming tide), and access to the nearby glen of the same name. These days the place is something of a ghost town, disturbed only by the occasional dog walker, but it once had its own funicular railway linking the sea level resort with the Douglas Head Marine Drive Railway atop the cliffs above, the remnants of which can still be traced today.

The Middle River is a river in the parish of Braddan in the Isle of Man which runs from Colooneys Farm area on the Marown parish border down under the original Fairy Bridge to Oakhill where it makes a 90 degree turn north eastwards to run past the Pulrose Golf Club to join the River Douglas near The Nunnery.

The Crogga River is a river in the Isle of Man. Crogga River issues close to the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club and meanders slowly downhill into the lake in front of the hotel (across which the 18th and later the 9th hole used to be played) and then drops to Murray's Lake before becoming the impassable Crogga River Glen on its way down towards Crogga Glen and Port Soderick and its Manx National Glens. The Crogga River forms, for the greater part of its course, the boundary between not only Braddan and Santon but also the boundary between the Central Valley and the South Island. The Crogga Mill, apparently on the east side of the river in Braddan parish, is one of the Isle of Man's officially Registered Buildings.

The Isle of Man Incinerator was designed by Savage & Chadwick Architects and has an unusual shape and design, the stack of which is designed to represent a Viking sail. SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK was awarded the contract to design, build and operate the incinerator by the Isle of Man Government. The incinerator is located on an old disused landfill and has a capacity to treat 60,000 tonnes of municipal waste, in addition to clinical and animal waste. In order to accomplish this, the facility actually incorporates two separate incinerators. The facility uses moving grate technology.

Postcodes were introduced in the Isle of Man in 1993, with the island becoming the IM postcode area. Each town or area is associated with one or more postcode districts, assigned by Isle of Man Post Office. Outside the larger towns, the postcode districts are further broken down and each postal sector is assigned to a number of villages and settlements.

Mount Murray is a hill 222 metres (728 ft) above sea level on the Isle of Man located at the northern end of Santon, near the boundaries with Marown and Braddan parishes. It is named after Lord Henry Murray, 4th Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. Often referred to simply as The Mount and formerly as Cronk Glass (green hill), Mount Murray is home to the Chibbanagh Plantation and nine of the eighteen holes of the Mount Murray Golf Club.

Newtown (Manx: Balley Noa) is a community within the parish of Santon, Isle of Man. To the northern part of the community lies Mount Murray and to the north-west the Broogh Fort (54°08′09″N 4°34′39″W) - an Iron Age fort dating from the 13th century.

Douglas South is a House of Keys constituency in Douglas, Isle of Man. Although the constituency is named Douglas South, its current (2020) boundaries place it in the west rather than the south of Douglas. Like all the Keys constituencies, the constituency returns two members to the House of Keys. Following a general election in October 2021, the incumbents are Mrs Claire Christian and Sarah Maltby.

The River Dhoo (Manx: Awin Doo) is a river on the Isle of Man. The river rises in Marown and flows east towards Douglas through the central valley of the island, passing Crosby and Union Mills before meeting with the River Glass on the outskirts of Douglas where it flows out to sea through Douglas Harbour. The Dhoo (meaning black or dark in Manx) and the Glass (meaning clear or green) converge to form the River Douglas. It has a length of approx. 6.5 mi (10.5 km). More recent research suggests that the name is one of the oldest place-names in the island and comes from the early Celtic term 'duboglassio’ meaning 'black/dark stream'. This is a common name throughout the British Isles and is Dulas in Wales and Dawlish in England.

The River Glass is a river on the Isle of Man. The river begins in the area of Injebreck about 10km north of Douglas, the Island's capital. Flowing down through the West Baldwin Valley, the river joins the River Dhoo to form the River Douglas on the outskirts of Douglas before flowing out to sea. The river has a length of approximately 8.5km. The name Glass originates from the word for green in Manx. The western edge of the parish of Onchan is formed by the path of the Glass.

The Braaid is an Iron Age roundhouse and two Norse long houses on this site represent its occupation until the 11th or 12th century AD in the parish of Marown in the Isle of Man. The site uniquely brings together buildings of Iron Age and Viking styles that were used together and survive down to the present. The site lies between Braaid hamlet and Mount Murray at which reference an area map can be viewed. Also nearby is The Broogh Fort (54°08′09″N 4°34′39″W).

The National Sports Centre (also known as NSC) in Douglas Isle of Man is a large multi-sports centre and athletics stadium. The NSC is owned by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture of the Isle of Man Government and operated by the Manx Sport & Recreation.
