On June 13, 2015, James Boulware shot at the Dallas Police Department from an armored van with what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle. The shooting occurred at the department's headquarters in the Cedars neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. He then led the police in a chase to nearby Hutchins, where he remained in the van in a standoff with police. The standoff ended when a police sniper fired a round from a .50-caliber rifle, disabling the engine block, as well as additional rounds into the vehicle to kill the driver. After sending in robots to confirm the shooting and attempt to make entry into the vehicle, water charges were used to breach the windshield. Police then verified that the suspect was the only person in the vehicle and that he was dead. Police also found four bags outside of the police headquarters containing pipe bombs.

On the night of September 6, 2018, off-duty Dallas Police Department patrol officer Amber Guyger entered the Dallas, Texas, apartment of 26-year-old accountant Botham Jean and fatally shot him. Guyger, who said that she had entered the apartment believing it was her own and believed Jean to be a burglar, was initially charged with manslaughter. The absence of a murder charge led to protests and accusations of racial bias, since Jean was black and unarmed and was killed in his home by a white off-duty officer who had apparently disregarded police protocols. On November 30, 2018, Guyger was indicted on a charge of murder. On October 1, 2019, she was found guilty of murder, and was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment the following day. The ruling was upheld on appeal in 2021.

Gilley's Complex, known as Gilley's Dallas, is a multi-purpose entertainment and dining complex located in Dallas, Texas. The complex offers nine venues with capacities ranging from 350 to 4,000. These venues are: South Side Ballroom, South Side Music Hall, the Loft, Bonnie & Clyde’s, the Lone Star Room, the Brazos Room, the Saloon, the Pasadena Room, and the Federal Reserve Room. The complex was named for country music singer-songwriter Mickey Gilley, who performed at the club. On July 7, 2019, Impact Wrestling held Slammiversary XVII in the venue.

Dallas CBD Vertiport (IATA: JDB, FAA LID: 49T) is a city-owned public heliport/vertiport in the city of Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, United States. The facility is located at the south end of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in the Dallas Central Business District, and is claimed to be the world's largest elevated heliport/vertiport.Most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, but Dallas CBD Vertiport is assigned 49T by the FAA and JDB by the IATA.The facility is used solely for general aviation purposes.

Dallas City Hall is the seat of municipal government of the city of Dallas, Texas, United States. It is located at 1500 Marilla in the Government District of downtown Dallas. The current building, the city's fifth city hall, was completed in 1978 and replaced the Dallas Municipal Building.

The Government District is an area in south-central downtown Dallas, Texas (USA). It lies south of the Main Street District, southeast of the West End Historic District, north of the Convention Center District, west of the Farmers Market District, and east of the Reunion District.

The Confederate War Memorial was a 65 foot (20 m)-high monument that pays tribute to soldiers and sailors from Texas who served with the Confederate States of America (CSA) during the American Civil War. The monument was dedicated in 1897, following the laying of its cornerstone the previous year. Originally located in Sullivan Park (later renamed Old City Park) near downtown Dallas, Texas, United States, the monument was relocated in 1961 to the nearby Pioneer Park Cemetery in the Convention Center District, next to the Dallas Convention Center and Pioneer Plaza. After the wave of removal of Confederate monuments in 2017, the City of Dallas convened a task force to decide what to do with the memorial and the statue of Robert E. Lee in Lee Park. In February 2019, the Dallas City Council approved removal of the Confederate War Memorial, but the planned removal was later blocked by the Fifth Court of Appeals of Texas. In June 2020, amid widespread George Floyd protests and destruction and removal of other Confederate monuments, the court granted an order allowing the city to remove the monument and place it in storage. The monument was removed later the same month.

The Longhorn Ballroom is a music venue and country-western dance hall in Dallas, Texas (USA). It was known in the early 1950s as Bob Wills' Ranch House when the large ballroom was built and operated by O.L. Nelms, an eccentric Dallas millionaire, for his close friend, western swing bandleader Bob Wills. When Wills left, O.L. Nelms leased the sprawling dance club to Jack Ruby who later killed Lee Harvey Oswald, John F. Kennedy's accused assassin. O.L. Nelms then sold the property to his close friend and business partner Dewey Groom. On January 10, 1978 it achieved brief infamy in national music circles when the Sex Pistols appeared there and during their performance taunted the audience, resulting in someone throwing a beer bottle and breaking Sid Vicious's nose, and he continued to play with blood running down his chest. Before the Sex Pistols, the venue hosted mainly country music artists including Charley Pride, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Ray Price, Conway Twitty, Bob Wills, Loretta Lynn, Hank Thompson, Willie Nelson and Patsy Montana. A famous photo that often circulates on the internet shows the venue's marquee advertising both the Sex Pistols concert and a Merle Haggard concert the following night. The Bob Wills concert album, "The Longhorn Recordings" featuring the music of Bob Wills and his steel guitar player Gene Crownover was recorded in the early Sixties at Longhorn Ballroom. One of the two music videos for Aerosmith's 1989 single "What It Takes" was filmed at the Longhorn Ballroom. The Longhorn Ballroom returned to brief infamy in 1991, when 2 Live Crew refused to go on stage for a scheduled show, resulting in fights among their fans and police. Dallas soul stalwart Johnnie Taylor released a live video filmed at the Longhorn in 1997. Bobby Patterson, who claims in the introduction to his KKDA radio show to be "able to leap the Longhorn Ballroom in a single bound," recorded a live album there in 2002. From October 1996 to February 2017 it was owned and operated by Raul Ramirez who also operates the restaurant Raul's Corral Mexican Restaurant adjacent to the ballroom. In February 2017, Jay LaFrance bought the Longhorn Ballroom and performed extensive restorations on the historic venue. The ballroom became a 23,000 square feet indoor-outdoor space that could be configured to host a variety of events and group sizes up to 2,550 indoors and over 5,000 outdoors in the Longhorn Park on the Trinity River. The Longhorn Ballroom has been temporarily closed since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Farmers Market District is an area in southeastern downtown Dallas, Texas (USA). It lies south of the Main Street District, north of the Cedars, west of Deep Ellum, northeast of the Convention Center District, and southeast of the Government District.

The Dallas Farmers Market is a large public market located at 1010 S. Pearl Expressway in the Farmers Market District of downtown Dallas, Texas.Today, the Dallas Farmers Market features three kinds of sellers: produce dealers, wholesale dealers and local farmers. Monthly yard sales, cooking classes, workshops, and seasonal festivals also take place throughout the year. Floral and garden vendors are located adjacent to the market.

Dallas Convention Center is a DART Light Rail station located in Dallas, Texas. It is located at Memorial Drive and Lamar Street, underneath the Dallas Convention Center in the Convention Center District. It opened on June 14, 1996, and is a station on the Red and Blue lines, serving the Dallas Convention Center, the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, Dallas City Hall and Pioneer Park.
