Kokomo City Building

Kokomo Courthouse Square Historic District is a national historic district located at Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana. The district includes 60 contributing buildings, 1 contributing structure, and 1 contributing object in the central business district of Kokomo. It developed between about 1870 and 1937 and includes notable examples of Italianate, Queen Anne, and Romanesque Revival style architecture. Notable buildings include the Draper Block (1904), Wilson Block (c. 1895), College Building (1909), Howard County Courthouse (1937), and a Railroad Watchman Tower (c. 1940).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Learner Building is a historic commercial building located in Kokomo, Indiana. It was built by John Wesley Learner around 1904, and is a two-story, red brick building with a sloping flat roof. Learner was a prominent businessman in Kokomo, though he himself never had a business in the building. The Learner Building is 11 bays wide and has three commercial storefronts. It is a good example of late-19th century commercial architecture and features bold vertical brick patterns and limestone coursing.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Lake Erie and Western Depot Historic District is a national historic district located at Kokomo, Indiana. The district includes seven contributing buildings and three contributing structures associated with the Lake Erie and Western Railroad train station at Kokomo. It includes the American Craftsman style passenger and freight depot (1916), a three-story Romanesque Revival style brick building with a limestone facade (1906), a three-story Romanesque influenced brick building (c. 1910), the massive three-story Neoclassical style S. Tudor & Co. building (c. 1905), "The Conwell" (1913), and three sets of railroad tracks.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Kokomo ( KOH-kə-moh) is a city in Indiana and the county seat of Howard County, Indiana, United States. Its population increased from 45,468 at the 2010 census to 59,604 in the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Kokomo, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Howard County, the Kokomo-Peru CSA, which includes Howard and Miami counties, as well as the North Central Indiana region consisting of six counties anchored by the city of Kokomo. Named for the Miami Ma-Ko-Ko-Mo who was called "Chief Kokomo", Kokomo first benefited from the legal business associated with being the county seat. Before the Civil War, it was connected with Indianapolis and then the Eastern cities by railroad, which resulted in sustained growth. Substantial growth came after the discovery of large natural gas reserves, which produced an economic boom in the mid-1880s. Among the businesses which the boom attracted was the fledgling automobile industry. A significant number of technical and engineering innovations were developed in Kokomo, particularly in automobile production, and, as a result, Kokomo became known as the "City of Firsts." A substantial portion of Kokomo's employment still depends on the automobile industry.

The Kokomo High School and Memorial Gymnasium is a historic high school and gymnasium located at Kokomo, Indiana, United States. It is a work of architect Elmer Dunlap and others, in Late Gothic Revival and Streamline Moderne architectural styles. It has also been known as the Central Middle School and Memorial Gymnasium. The NRHP listing included three contributing buildings on 8 acres (3.2 ha).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Kokomo Municipal Stadium is a baseball stadium in Kokomo, Indiana, United States. The Kokomo Jackrabbits of the college summer Northwoods League, and the Kokomo Wildkats (local high school) use Kokomo Municipal Stadium as their home field. Other local high school baseball teams including the Taylor Titans, Northwestern Tigers, and the Western Panthers use the Kokomo Municipal Stadium for a portion of their games. Upon opening in 2015, Kokomo Municipal Stadium had a capacity of up to 4,000 in a combination of fixed and lawn seating. In May 2016, the Kokomo Mantis FC of the Premier Development League called the stadium home.

The Old Silk Stocking Neighborhood is the historic district near downtown Kokomo, Indiana, and the Westside Business District. In 1886, natural gas was discovered in north central Indiana. The area exploded with people, who then developed the neighborhood. This historic area of town was the place where lawyers, doctors, industrialists and even a mayor would come to build their turn of the century residences. The neighborhood is bounded by Washington Street to the east, Philips Street to the west, Wildcat Creek to the south and Taylor Street to the North. Major roadways traversing through the Old Silk Stocking Neighborhood include Sycamore Street (Indiana State Road 22) running east and west and Washington Street and Philips Street traveling north and south. Recently in 2005, Sycamore Street (SR 22) began a complete redesign resulting in an addition of a center turn lane, as well as old-fashioned lighting and ornamental trees with construction ending in late 2006. On December 22, 2008, the neighborhood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its official boundaries are "W. Jackson St. on the N., Washington St. on the E., Wildcat Creek in the S., Phillips St. on the W.".

The Seiberling Mansion is a historic house located at Kokomo, Indiana, United States. In 1887, Monroe Seiberling of Akron, Ohio, traveled to Kokomo to open the Kokomo Strawboard Company, which would make shoe boxes out of straw and employ seventy-five people. Within six months, Seiberling, uncle of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company founder Frank Seiberling, sold the Kokomo Strawboard Company and opened the Diamond Plate Glass Company. He began construction on his mansion in October 1889 at a cost of $50,000, with construction ending within two years. The mansion is built in a mixture of Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival styles.In 1972, the Seiberling Mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located in the Old Silk Stocking Historic District. The mansion is owned by the Howard County Historical Society and serves as the location of the Howard County Museum.

Howard County is one of 92 counties in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 83,658. The county seat is Kokomo. Originally named Richardville County, it was renamed in 1844 to commemorate General Tilghman Ashurst Howard. Howard County comprises the Kokomo, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Continental Steel Corporation was United States steel producer from 1927 until 1986. The company was created on June 21, 1927, through the merger of the Kokomo Steel and Wire Company (founded in Kokomo, Indiana, in 1901) with the Superior Sheet Steel Company of Canton, Ohio, and the Chapman Price Steel Company of Indianapolis. Among the original eleven directors was John E. Fredrick, who had been an organizer of the Kokomo Fence Machine Company in 1896 and had served on the board of directors of the Kokomo Steel and Wire Company. Fredrick served as first Chairman of the Board of Continental Steel, whose headquarters were established in Kokomo. The Kokomo operations of this corporation, however, continued to employ the Kokomo Steel and Wire name until 1944. Continental Steel was dissolved in 1986, due to bankruptcy.
