Neuchâtel (UK: , US: , French: [nøʃɑtɛl] (listen); German: Neuenburg) is the capital of the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, situated on the shoreline of Lake Neuchâtel. Since the fusion in 2021 of the municipalities of Neuchâtel, Corcelles-Cormondrèche, Peseux, and Valangin, the city has approximately 45,000 inhabitants (80,000 in the metropolitan area). The city is sometimes referred to historically by the German name Neuenburg; both the French and German names mean "New Castle". It was originally part of the Kingdom of Burgundy, then part of the Holy Roman Empire and later under Prussian control from 1707 until 1848, with an interruption during the Napoleonic Wars from 1802 to 1814. In 1848, Neuchâtel became a republic and a canton of Switzerland. Neuchâtel is a centre of the Swiss watch industry, the site of micro-technology and high-tech industries, and home to research centres and organizations such as the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM), and Philip Morris International's Cube. The apparel company heidi.com established its headquarters in the city. The official language of Neuchâtel is French. Neuchâtel is a pilot of the Council of Europe and the European Commission Intercultural Cities programme.

The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) is a Federal agency of the Swiss Confederation. It is the statistics office of Switzerland, situated in Neuchâtel and attached to the Federal Department of Home Affairs.The Federal Statistical Office is the national service provider and competence centre for statistical observations in areas of national, social, economic and environmental importance. The FSO is the main producer of statistics in the country and runs the Swiss Statistics data pool. It provides information on all subject areas covered by official statistics. The office is closely linked to the national statistics scene as well as to partners in the worlds of science, business and politics. It works closely with Eurostat, the Statistics Office of the European Union, in order to provide information that is also comparable at an international level. The key principles upheld by the office throughout its statistical activities are data protection, scientific reliability, impartiality, topicality and service orientation.

Neuchâtel railway station (French: Gare de Neuchâtel) serves the municipality of Neuchâtel, the capital city of the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Opened in 1857, it is owned and operated by SBB-CFF-FFS. The station forms part of one of Switzerland's most important railway lines, the Jura foot railway (Olten–Genève-Aéroport), which is one of two routes used by intercity trains between Geneva and Zürich. It is also a junction for SBB-CFF-FFS lines to Le Locle and Pontarlier, and for the BLS line from Bern.

The Fun'ambule is a funicular railway in the city of Neuchâtel in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel. The line runs in tunnel and links the lower part of the town, near the University, to the railway station in the upper part.

The University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) is a French-speaking university based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The university has four faculties (schools) and more than a dozen institutes, including arts and human sciences, natural sciences, law and economics. The Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, with 2,000 students, is the largest school of those that comprise the University of Neuchâtel. The university has an annual budget of CHF 144 million and an annual research fund of CHF 40 million. Approximately 4,000 students, including 600 PhD students attend the university, and more than 600 diplomas, licences, doctorates and certificates are awarded each year. The university has more than 1,100 employees.

The Hôtel DuPeyrou (DuPeyrou Palace) is a mansion in the city of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The relatively large Swiss mansion was built between 1765 and 1771 for Pierre-Alexandre DuPeyrou (1729–1794) by the Bernese architect Erasme Ritter (1726–1805). The still mainly original interior of the mansion was executed by highly skilled craftsmen. The faience stoves were delivered by the Frisching Faience Manufactory from Bern. DuPeyrou was immensely rich. His fortune derived from his two slave plantations in Suriname where he was born and where his father was in a high position within the Court of Justice. DuPeyrou was a close friend of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. It was DuPeyrou who paid the costs for the first publishing of the complete works of Jean-Jacques Rousseau in 1788 in Geneva. DuPeyrou and his wife, Henriette Dorothée de Pury (1750–1818), had no children. In 1799 the mansion was sold to Frédéric de Pourtalès. Afterwards the mansion changed hands several times. In 1858 the city of Neuchâtel bought the mansion and restored it to its former glory. Today the Hôtel DuPeyrou contains a restaurant and it is also used for ceremonial events by the city.

The Roman Catholic Our Lady of Assumption Church, also known as the Red Church, stands in the Swiss city of Neuchâtel in the diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Freiburg. The Neo-Gothic church was planned by Guillaume Ritter and consecrated on March 25, 1906. After a major renovation between 1984 and 2000, it was recognized in 1986 as a national monument. In 2007 Pope Benedict XVI raised the church's status to that of basilica minor.The building is constructed of artificial stone, made on site and tinted to obtain the reddish appearance of Alsace sandstone. The interior has three aisles and a transept. In addition to 14 large paintings representing the Stations of the Cross, five choir windows and a large rosette, the vaulted roof is designed to represent the night sky with almost 10,000 stars. In 1937 a new high altar by the architect Fernand Dumas de Romont was created whose centrepiece is a calvary by Marcel Feuillat. In 1933, three large bells, named Maria-Josepha, Faith and Charity, replaced the three smaller ones dating from 1912. Apart from serving the spiritual needs of 62,000 Neuchâtel Catholics, the basilica is also the most important pilgrimage church in the canton. The Swiss theologian and mystic Maurice Zundel is buried in the church.

Lycée Jean-Piaget is an institution in Neuchâtel, Switzerland offering secondary education, tertiary education and language education. In 1998, the business school, l'École supérieure de commerce de Neuchâtel, merged with l'École supérieure Numa-Droz to form Lycée Jean-Piaget.

Stade de la Maladière is a multi-purpose stadium in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of Neuchâtel Xamax. The stadium holds 12,000. It replaced the old Stade de la Maladière.

The musée d'art et d'histoire (Museum of Art and History) is a museum in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Among its exhibits are the Jaquet-Droz automata. The collections of paintings include works of Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.The museum's stairwell features three monumental murals painted by Léo-Paul Robert between 1886 and 1894.
