East Lake (New Zealand)

A residential red zone is any of several areas of land in and around Christchurch, New Zealand, that experienced severe damage in the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes and were deemed infeasible to rebuild on. Through voluntary buyouts, the Crown acquired and demolished or removed over 8,000 properties.: 5  The majority were located in a broad swath of the eastern suburbs along the Avon River / Ōtākaro that had suffered damage from soil liquefaction.

Dallington is a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, on the north-east side of the city. It is bounded mainly by the Avon River, stretching in a circular area from the intersection of Gayhurst Road, Dallington Terrace and Locksley Avenue along to New Brighton Road, North Parade and Banks Avenue where it meets the intersection at the other end of Dallington Terrace and River Road. Its neighbouring suburbs are Burwood, Shirley, Richmond, and Avonside. It was originally named Dudley's Creek after a local farmer, John Dudley (1808–1861). Henry Jekyll (1844–1913) bought the farm about 1879, naming it Dallington after a Northamptonshire estate.On 4 September 2010, it was severely hit by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, causing immense damage. Consequently, the St Paul's parish church and school which had suffered greatly from the effects of the quake, were forced to relocate their church services to the Marian College chapel and the students to the Catholic Cathedral College site, for the following couple of years estimated that it would take to rebuild. The college accommodated the entire primary school community of St Paul's School for a short time. But the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake (6.3 magnitude) caused far worse devastation to the city than the September 2010 earthquake. Large areas of Dallington were placed into a residential red zone, under which houses were acquired and demolished by the Crown. Parts of Catholic Cathedral College were under the unstable 400-ton dome of the Catholic Cathedral. Because the dome was in imminent danger of collapse, the college left the site and St Paul's School was moved to a site which the Minister of Education made available in Champion St.

Chisnallwood Intermediate is the main Intermediate school in the eastern suburbs of Christchurch, New Zealand. The school had a student roll of 833 students in 2008, which had shrunk to 631 by 2016. The school was recommended for closure or merger in the 2013 Christchurch school review commissioned by Education Minister Hekia Parata, but was spared.

The 1990 Eisenhower Trophy took place 25 to 28 October at the Christchurch Golf Club near Christchurch, New Zealand. It was the 17th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 33 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Sweden won the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time, finishing 13 strokes ahead of the joint silver medalists, New Zealand and United States with Canada, France and Japan tied for fourth place. Mathias Grönberg had the lowest individual score, 2-under-par 286, six strokes better than fellow-Swede Gabriel Hjertstedt.

The Medway Street footbridge crosses the Avon River / Ōtākaro, connecting the Christchurch, New Zealand, suburbs of Richmond and Avonside. The original bridge became twisted in the 2010 Canterbury earthquake, leading to its removal in 2013. Part of the structure was placed on the river bank in October 2018 to serve as a memorial. In 2022, a new bridge was opened just to the south of the old bridge.

The Palms Shopping Centre is a shopping mall located in the suburb of Shirley, Christchurch. Situated 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from the city's CBD.

Avonside is an eastern suburb in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is one of the oldest suburbs of the city, with only Heathcote being older.

Wainoni is one of the eastern suburbs of Christchurch. It is a lower socio-economic area.

Avondale is a suburb of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) northeast of the city center, and is close to the Avon River, four kilometers to the northwest of its estuary. The suburb is centered on Avondale Road and so named due to its proximity to the Avon River. It has a good sized park on Mervyn Drive called Avondale Park. This park has a kids playground, a tennis court, basketball court, and a football field in winter. There is ample vacant red zone land in Avondale for activities such as leisure and dog walking.

Shirley, sometimes referred to as Windsor, is a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north-east of the city centre. The area was used for farming from the 1850s, and subdivision started in the early 20th century, with most of the houses being built between 1950 and 1980.

Wilding Park, now branded as Trustpower Tennis Centre @ Wilding Park, is a tennis facility located in Christchurch, New Zealand. The land at Wilding Park was purchased by Canterbury Tennis in the early 1920s and gradually developed into a tennis centre. Several years ago, during the restructure of tennis in New Zealand, the Wilding Park assets were transferred to the Wilding Park Foundation Incorporated to ensure they were held in trust in perpetuity for the tennis players of the region. From the 1970s for three decades Wilding Park was known as ‘Davis Cup City’ with most of New Zealand’s home ties played there; this included many World Group ties or the earlier equivalent Zone Finals. In the last decade it has hosted annual ITF Junior Circuit events, Futures tennis tournaments, the ITF World Team Cup, ITF Super Seniors, an Asian Zone Fed Cup tournament and the 2011 ITF Seniors Championships. The Wilding Park Complex is named after Frederick Wilding, whose son, Tony Wilding, is still the only New Zealander to win a Wimbledon singles title.Pre-earthquake, the centre had 39 courts altogether, six indoor Rebound Ace courts, twenty-five outdoor hard courts and eight natural grass courts. Its 39 courts made it the largest tennis centre in New Zealand.

Haeata Community Campus is a school in the suburb of Wainoni, in Christchurch New Zealand. It opened on 3 February 2017 with an initial roll of 955 from the closure of four schools: Aranui Primary, Avondale Primary, Wainoni School, and Aranui High. The principal is Peggy Burrows.
