Chisnallwood Intermediate is the main Intermediate school in the eastern suburbs of Christchurch, New Zealand. The school had a student roll of 833 students in 2008, which had shrunk to 631 by 2016. The school was recommended for closure or merger in the 2013 Christchurch school review commissioned by Education Minister Hekia Parata, but was spared.

Burwood is a north-eastern suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. The suburb is mostly a residential area and is centred on Burwood Hospital, Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park and Bottle Lake Forest (a 31-acre (130,000 m2) recreation, forested area). Large areas of Burwood, including the Horseshoe Lake area, suffered severe damage in the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, and were abandoned under government policy that placed them in a residential red zone.

Haeata Community Campus is a school in the suburb of Wainoni, in Christchurch New Zealand. It opened on 3 February 2017 with an initial roll of 955 from the closure of four schools: Aranui Primary, Avondale Primary, Wainoni School, and Aranui High. The principal is Peggy Burrows.

Aranui High School was a large secondary school for years 9–13, in Christchurch, New Zealand. Aranui high school took its name from the suburb of Aranui, meaning 'big pathway' in Māori. Aranui High School was a coeducational alternative to other secondary schools in Eastern Christchurch such as Linwood College and Mairehau High School. Despite its name, it is located in the suburb of Wainoni. As part of the government's restructure of Christchurch schools following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, the school's closure was announced in 2013. It closed in December 2016, and Haeata Community Campus, a school taking year 1-13 pupils was opened on the campus from a merger of Aranui High School with Aranui, Wainoni and Avondale primary schools.

A residential red zone is any of several areas of land in and around Christchurch, New Zealand, that experienced severe damage in the 2010 and 2011 Christchurch earthquakes and were deemed infeasible to rebuild on. Through voluntary buyouts, the Crown acquired and demolished or removed over 8,000 properties.: 5  The majority were located in a broad swath of the eastern suburbs along the Avon River / Ōtākaro that had suffered damage from soil liquefaction.

East Lake is an open water course under consideration in Christchurch, New Zealand. The facility, located within the residential red zone adjacent to the Avon River, would be suitable for international rowing regattas. The facility is estimated at NZ$160m to construct.

Ngā Hau e Whā National Marae is a large marae in the Christchurch suburb of Bromley. The marae opened in May 1990 and is administered by Te Rūnanga o Ngā Maata Waka, a local pan-tribal Urban Māori authority. The site was set aside by the Christchurch City Council for use as a marae in 1977. The location was part of Cuthbert's Green park. The planned marae triggered 180 complaints from nearby residents, but the marae project went ahead. The site is immediately adjacent to the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant. Construction of the marae began in 1981. During the construction the project ran out of money, and ownership of the land was transferred to the New Zealand Government. One of the earliest installations at the marae was the carved entrance gateway, titled Te Amorangi, unveiled in late 1982. The carving depicts William Hobson and a Māori chief signing the Treaty of Waitangi, as a symbol of the coming-together of Pākehā and Māori. The lone chief is symbolic of the various Ngāi Tahu rangatira (chief) that signed the treaty on behalf of their iwi. The main wharenui of the marae is named Aoraki, in reference to the Māori creation myth of the South Island. It is the largest wharenui of its kind in New Zealand. The construction utilised local unemployed people as labourers, to give opportunities to the community. One of the wall carvings depicts explorer James Cook, to represent that Pākehā are also welcome. The marae was officially opened in 1990 during a ceremony by Minister of Māori Affairs Koro Wētere. In the aftermath of the 2010 Christchurch earthquake, the marae hosted 26 government agencies to make them accessible to the community. This included hosting a day-to-day criminal court, an initiative that was praised by the New Zealand Law Society. In 2018, a social housing facility opened on the grounds of the marae. The marae hosted a walk-in vaccination clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 a medical centre opened at the marae, providing low-cost access to general practitioners.

Cowles Stadium is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Aranui, Christchurch. It is the home arena of the Canterbury Rams of the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL) and the Mainland Pouākai of the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa women's basketball league. It is the former home arena of the Christchurch Cougars of the NZNBL and the Christchurch Sirens of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL).

Queen Elizabeth II Park was a multi-use stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand, located in a large park of the same name. The stadium had a capacity of 25,000 people and was built in 1973 to host the 1974 British Commonwealth Games, with a temporary 10,000 seat western stand erected for that event to take the capacity to 35,000. The stadium suffered some damage in the September 2010 Canterbury earthquake but was able to reopen, only to be damaged beyond repair in February 2011 Christchurch earthquake. The park is now home to two schools: Avonside Girls' and Shirley Boys' and Taiora QEII Recreation and Sport Centre – all newly built since the earthquakes.

Village Green was a cricket venue in Christchurch. It is a back-up first-class cricket ground in New Zealand. It was the home of the District's first class cricket team, the State Canterbury Wizards.Village Green is part of the main stadium of Queen Elizabeth II Park, and was often used for inter-provincial competition when the AMI Stadium was unavailable for use. The stadium had been damaged after the 2010 Canterbury earthquake but was able to reopen; it was severely damaged beyond repair after the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake which has damaged the running track and recreation complex. The stadium and pool complex was demolished in 2012 after engineering reports found it beyond repair.
