St Elli Church, Llanelli

Llanelly House (also spelled Llanelli House) is one of the most notable historic properties in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales—an excellent example of an early-18th-century Georgian town house. It had been described as "the most outstanding domestic building of its early Georgian type to survive in South Wales."The then Member of Parliament for Carmarthenshire, Sir Thomas Stepney, 5th Baronet, of the Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire Stepney family, originally built the house in 1714. John Wesley, the early leader of the Methodist movement, stayed at the house several times during his visits to the town.The house, located directly opposite the parish church of St Ellyw, was in a poor state of repair; however, the town council purchased it from the local business community with the intention of completely restoring the House for civic and public use.

The Church of All Saints is a former Anglican parish church in the town of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It was built in 1872 and is located in Heol Goring. It was designated a Grade II-listed building on 3 December 1992, and was reported to be closed in March 2011 due to electrical defects. At the time this church was built, the amount of funds available was the determining factor when deciding on the architectural style to be used when building a new place of worship; the richer the congregation, the more ornate the church. Most churches cost somewhere between £1000 and £2000 to erect, but the Church of All Saints, Llanelli was estimated to cost £4,800 when it was built in 1872, the architect being George Edmund Street of London. Additional sums were spent in 1887 when the west end was completed according to the original plans. The exterior is built with brown rock-faced rubble-stone with Bath stone dressings, and the roof is clad with green slates and terracotta ridge tiles. Besides the "exceptionally fine 5-light stained-glass east window" there is another fine window in the south aisle.The church was designated a Grade II listed building on 3 December 1992, and has a richly decorated interior with heavily carved reredos, and fine stained-glass windows. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales curates the archaeological, architectural and historic records for this church. These include digital photographs of the exterior and interior, colour transparencies and black and white postcards. In March 2011, the church was closed because of electrical problems. The Church in Wales took the decision not to repair the electrics but instead to sell the church and invest the proceeds in other churches in the town.

Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; Welsh: [ɬaˈnɛɬi] ) is a market town and community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales. It is located on the Loughor estuary and is the largest town in the county of Carmarthenshire.The town is 11 miles (18 km) north-west of Swansea and 12 miles (19 km) south-east of Carmarthen. The town had a population of 25,168 in 2011, estimated in 2019 at 26,225. The local authority was Llanelli Borough Council when the county of Dyfed existed, but it has been under Carmarthenshire County Council since 1996.

Hall Street Methodist and United Reformed Church is a local ecumenical partnership of two denominations in the original Methodist chapel in the town of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. The present building was built in 1856 and is located in Hall Street. The chapel was designated as a Grade II listed building on 3 December 1992.

Tabernacle Chapel is an Independent (Congregational) chapel in the town of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It was built in 1872 and is located at 17 Cowell Street. It is a Grade II* listed building. Tabernacle Chapel was erected at a time when Llanelli had become a significant regional producer of tinplate and steel; the population was growing strongly and needed more buildings in which to worship. It was designed by John Humphrey and was similar to the chapels he designed in Llanidloes and Morriston. The façade is temple-like and combines an arcade with a portico, underneath which is an unusual arrangement of windows and stone-banding. The façade's style is a combination of Roman, Romanesque, Gothic, Italianate and Greek. Inside the chapel, the plaster roof has curved ribbing and there is a curved gallery with a pierced semi-barrier above a low veneered-walnut wall. The pulpit is much-arched and covered in fine fretwork; behind it is an organ gallery, installed in 1901 by Vowles.The chapel was designated a Grade II* listed building on 3 December 1992, the reason for listing being that it is "a fine example of John Humphreys' distinctive style in chapel building, and probably the most elaborate chapel in Llanelli". The listing includes the spearhead railings with twisted uprights on Cowell Street and the two sets of iron gates. These include numerous digital photographs and a collection of colour slides.

Zion or Seion Baptist Chapel is a Baptist chapel in the town of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It was built in 1857 and is located at Island Place, close to the junction of Water Street with Upper Park Street. The church was founded in 1831, before the erection of the present building. The congregation selected David Bowen, to be its pastor, a position he held until his death in 1853.Zion Baptist Chapel was erected at a time when Llanelli had become a significant regional producer of tinplate and steel and the population was growing strongly and needed more buildings in which to worship. The building was designed by Henry Rogers and erected in 1857. It is the largest of the Baptist chapels in the town and has a three-bay façade with arched upper windows and a timber-pedimented porch. There are giant pilasters in greyish-brown local stone contrasting with ornamentations in brown sandstone. Inside the chapel is a large open space with galleries on all four sides, the organ gallery having been added in 1929. The congregation occupies box pews, some of which are tucked up under the galleries. Two schoolrooms dating from 1913 and built by William Griffiths adjoin the chapel.The chapel was designated as a Grade II-listed building on 3 December 1992, as "a fine example of classical tradition in chapel building and one of a series of similar Baptist chapels in Llanelli". The listing includes the railings that face onto the street. Park Congregational Chapel is a Congregational chapel in the town of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It was built in 1864 and is located at the junction between Murray Street and Inkerman Street. It was designated as a Grade II listed building on 3 December 1992.

Llanelli Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Llanelli) is a municipal building in Church Street, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, South Wales. The town hall, which was the headquarters of Llanelli Borough Council, is a Grade II listed building.

Ebenezer was an Independent (Congregationalist) chapel in Inkerman Street, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Services at Ebenezer were conducted in the Welsh language. The chapel was established in the 1880s after a number of members were expelled from the neighbouring Tabernacle church. The building was designed by the prolific chase builder, Thomas Thomas of Landore, at a cost of around £2,000. It could accommodate 800 people.T. Orchwy Bowen became minister in 1909 and remained until 1921. In 1917 he rejected a call to minister at Trefgarne Church in Pembrokeshire.The chapel remained open longer than any other Congregationalist chapels in the town, apart from Capel Als and Tabernacle.

The A4214 is a ring-road around Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, west Wales. The route begins at the junction with Hall Street and Gelli-onn, on the A484 road in northwest Llanelli. At this point, the road is a dual-carriageway as it heads south-east along Hall Street to the Public Library, then south-west along Church Street and past the town council, government buildings, then south-east again past the town hall and county council offices. Here, the road turns into a single-carriageway as it becomes Station Road to the junction with the B4303 and Queen Victoria Road. The road takes a 90-degree to the north-east along Murray Street towards the Asda Supermarket. Following construction of the Asda Supermarket in the middle of the town centre, the road takes a detour around the car-park, first running south-east along Bres Road, then north-east along Upper Robinson Street then north-west along Stepney Place, before rejoining the original route. The road then continues north-east until it reaches Swansea Castle Roundabout, with the junction of the A484. Inside this ring-road is the main commerce area of Llanelli, including the shopping centre, supermarket, indoor and outdoor markets, bus-station, high street shops as well as multi-story, off-street and street parking.

Lloyd Street, Llanelli was an Independent (Congregationalist) chapel in Lloyd Street, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. Services at Lloyd Street were conducted in the Welsh language. The chapel was established in 1886 after a number of members decided to leave the neighbouring Tabernacle church. Tabernacle had been bitterly divided during the ministry of the Rev J. Pandy Williams when the church became embroiled in a row about the constitution of the Bala Theological College. During his ministry a large group of members left to establish Ebenezer and when Pandy Williams left Tabernacle a number of his supporters decided that they could not remain members of the church. On 21 March 1886 members of this group held a meeting at Lakefield School and they included Dr J. A. Jones and Joseph Williams, both of whom were prominent public figures in the town. The church was incorporated on 9 April 1886 and within seventeen months they had built a new chapel in Lloyd Street, ironically within walking distance of Tabernacle.On 12 July 1887 a memorial stone was laid by Sir Arthur Stepney during a service led by Thomas Johns of Capel Als, Thomas Davies of Siloah and Dewi Medi of Dock Chapel. The formal opening took place over three days from 28 until 30 August 1887.In 1931, J. Camwy Evans, a native of the Welsh 'colony' in Patagonia, where his parents had emigrated from Crug-y-bar, Carmarthenshire in 1878. Evans had come to Wales as a young man, with little English, to train for the ministry and after sixteen years at Pen-ref Chapel, Caernarfon, he moved to Llanelli. At Caernarfon, Evans had played a prominent role in public life but at Llanelli he concentrated on the chapel and pastoral work. In his history of Llanelli's chapels, Huw Edwards speculates on the reasons for Evans's departure in 1947 to the much smaller church at Nebo, Blaengarw where he remained for seven years before retiring to North Wales.The chapel closed in June 1991 and the building subsequently suffered from vandalism. The Nicholson organ was smashed by vandals who used the pipes as spears to destroy the ornate ceiling. Eventually the building was demolished in 1997.The site has been redeveloped with offices of the Probation Service.
