Plainfield Historic District is a national historic district located at Plainfield, Hendricks County, Indiana. The district encompasses 174 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential area of Plainfield. The district developed between about 1840 and 1959 and includes notable examples of Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the Ezra Cox House (c. 1861–1863), Oscar Hadley House (1891), Plainfield Carnegie Library (1912), Plainfield Methodist Episcopal Church (1891), Bly Bros. Dry Goods Store (c. 1880), Knights of Pythias Building (c. 1900), Prewitt Theater (1927), First National Bank of Plainfield (1903), Mansion House Hotel (1874), Fisher's Tavern (c. 1840), and Quaker Meeting House (1857-1858).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Hendricks County Bridge Number 316, also known as Friendship Gardens Bridge, is a historic Pinned Warren Truss bridge located at Plainfield, Hendricks County, Indiana. It was built in 1886, by the Morse Bridge Company of Youngstown, Ohio. The single span bridge measures 170 feet long and spans White Lick Creek.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Plainfield is a town in Guilford, Liberty, and Washington townships, Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 27,631 at the 2010 census, and in 2022 the estimated population was 36,074.

The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) is a law enforcement training academy located in Plainfield, Indiana. The governing body of the academy is the 17-member Law Enforcement Training Board who are appointed by the governor. The board sets the requirements and criteria for the basic training of law enforcement officers throughout the state, which became mandatory on July 6, 1972. The academy offers basic training for new police officers, jail officers, and town marshals. It also offers in-service training for police officers and executive training for police chiefs. The basic training course for new police officers consists of over 600 hours of training. Major areas of instruction include criminal and traffic law, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, physical tactics, EMS awareness and human behavior. Officers are also required to study other police related subjects such as accident investigation, criminal investigation, domestic violence and sexual assault, water rescue training, Standardized Field Sobriety Test, crime prevention and drug and narcotics.In addition to the main training academy in Plainfield, six satellite facilities are certified by the board to offer training courses throughout the state: Fort Wayne Police Academy – Fort Wayne Indiana State Police Academy at ILEA – Plainfield Indiana University Police Academy – Bloomington Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Academy – Indianapolis Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (NILEA) – Hobart Southwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (SWILEA) – Evansville

The Indiana Boys School (IBS) was opened in 1867 as a correctional institution for adolescent boys. It was located on U.S. Route 40 just outside Plainfield, Indiana. For 138 years, it was the primary correctional facility for juvenile males in Indiana. In October 2005, the grounds and building were transformed into a pre-release center for adult males, while the boys were transferred to a new facility located on the grounds of the Indianapolis Juvenile Correctional Facility (formerly the Indiana Girls School) in west Indianapolis. IBS was a state operated, medium to maximum-security facility with approximately 245 staff and 335 boys housed in campus style cottages.

Plainfield Correctional Facility is a prison for men of the Indiana Department of Correction located in Plainfield, Indiana.The facility opened in 1969 as the Indiana Youth Center.As of 2016, the prison housed 1,659 inmates, and employed 333 staff.

Indiana Boys SchoolThe Heritage Trail Correctional Facility is a private minimum-security state prison for men located in Plainfield, Hendricks County, Indiana, operated by the GEO Group under contract with the Indiana Department of Correction.Heritage Trail is operated at minimum security and focuses on inmates transitioning out of the system. Heritage Trail first opened in 2014 following the closure of the Indiana Boys School. The facility had an average capacity of 827 inmates through 2014. The facility stands on the site of the former state reformatory, the Indiana House of Refuge, first established in 1867.

Sugar Grove Meetinghouse and Cemetery is a historic Quaker meeting house and cemetery located in Guilford Township, Hendricks County, Indiana. The meeting house was built in 1870, and enlarged in the late-1870s or early-1880s. It is a one-story, rectangular brick building with a gable roof and connected to other buildings by a covered porch. Also on the property are the contributing school house, privy, and storage shed. The cemetery includes burials dating from the 1840s to 1960s.The meetinghouse interior is split into two rooms of the same size and layout for male and female congregants. The partition wall between them has wooden panels which can be opened or closed.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. As of 2013, the meetinghouse was used occasionally by a local Quaker group and had been restored without modern plumbing, lights, or air conditioning.
