Pembroke St Mary South was the name of an electoral ward in the town of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the area including the town centre and Pembroke Castle and the town immediately to the west of St Daniel's Hill.The ward elected a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three town councillors to Pembroke Town Council.According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 1,434.A boundary review took place in 2019, where it was noted that the number of eligible voters was 33% below the average for an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire. As a result it was recommended that part of the neighbouring St Michael ward was transferred to the St Mary South ward, increasing the number of electors by 531. It was also proposed that the ward be combined with the neighbouring Monkton electoral ward, with the resulting ward electing two county councillors. These changes came into effect in 2021, with the creation of a new electoral ward named Pembroke Monkton and St Mary South.

Pembroke Monkton and St Mary South is the name of an electoral ward in the town of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The ward elects two county councillors to Pembrokeshire County Council. The seats will be contested for the first time in the 2022 Pembrokeshire County Council election. The ward replaced the Pembroke Monkton and Pembroke St Mary South electoral wards, which each elected one county councillor. The ward was created following a boundary review which took place in 2019. The review noted the existing Pembroke Monkton and Pembroke St Mary South both having a lower number of electors than the county average. As a result, it was recommended to combine the two and transfer part of the neighbouring Pembroke St Michael into the merged ward to increase the number of electors. The Welsh Government accepted the changes and they took effect in 2021.

Pembroke ( PEM-bruuk; Welsh: Penfro [ˈpɛnvrɔ]) is both a town and a community in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a population of 7,552. The names of both the town and the county (of which the county town is Haverfordwest) have a common origin; both are derived from the Cantref of Penfro: Pen, "head" or "end", and bro, "region", "country", "land", which has been interpreted to mean either "Land's End" or "headland".Pembroke features a number of historic buildings, town walls, complexes and Pembroke Castle which was the birthplace of Henry Tudor, who became Henry VII of England.

The siege of Pembroke took place in 1648 during the Second English Civil War. In the engagement, Parliamentarian troops led by Oliver Cromwell sieged Pembroke Castle in Wales. The Castle had become a refuge for rebellious Parliamentarian soldiers after the end of the First English Civil War.

Pembroke's town walls are a Grade II*-listed medieval defensive structure around the town of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. They were probably built beginning in the late 13th century by the Earls of Pembroke, although it is uncertain when they were finished. Most of the walls have not survived, but there are visible sections and two bastions exist, one with a restored late 18th-century gazebo atop it.

Pembroke Castle (Welsh: Castell Penfro) is a medieval castle in the centre of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire in Wales. The castle was the original family seat of the Earldom of Pembroke. A Grade I listed building since 1951, it underwent major restoration during the early 20th century.In 1093, Arnulf of Montgomery built the first castle at the site when he fortified the promontory beside the Pembroke River during the Norman invasion of Wales. A century later, the castle was given by Richard I to William Marshal, who became one of the most powerful men in 12th-century Britain. He rebuilt Pembroke Castle in stone, creating most of the structure that remains today. The castle is open to the public and is the largest privately owned castle in Wales.

Pembroke Rural District was a rural district in the administrative county of Pembrokeshire, Wales from 1894 to 1974, covering an area in the south of the county. It surrounded, but did not include, the town of Pembroke after which it was named.

The Cantref of Penfro was one of the seven cantrefi of the Kingdom of Dyfed. It subsequently became part of Deheubarth in around 950. It consisted of the long peninsular part of Dyfed south of the Eastern Cleddau and the Daugleddau estuary, and bordered on its landward side by Cantref Gwarthaf. The name, meaning "land's end", derives from Pen ("end", literally "head") and "fro" ("populated area"). Its area was approximately 140 square miles (360 km2). It was divided into two commotes: Cwmwd Penfro in the southwest and Cwmwd Coedrath in the northeast, as shown in the map. The eastern part of Cwmwd Penfro was sometimes called Cwmwd Maenorbier, and the northern part of Cwmwd Coedrath was sometimes called Cwmwd Arberth, but both these were post-Norman lordships, and were probably not genuine commotes. Its civil headquarters were at Pembroke: Rhoscrowther or Penally might have been its ecclesiastical centre.The cantref was made part of the Norman March in the 12th century, and many castles were built, including those of Carew, Manorbier, Narberth, Pembroke, and Tenby. The area became English-speaking, as it continues today, except in the northern part of Narberth parish. At the time of the 1535 Acts of Union, the cantref was split between two newly formed hundreds, when Cwmwd Penfro became Castlemartin Hundred, and Cwmwd Coedrath was merged into Narberth Hundred.

It covers the area of the town north of the Pembroke River and the Mill Pond.The ward elects a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and four town councillors to Pembroke Town Council.According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,060.In July 2018 the sitting county councillor, David 'Dai' Boswell, was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison for rape and indecent assault. He resigned from his roles as county and town councillor. He had earlier resigned as mayor of Pembroke. A by-election was planned for 13 September 2018, with eight candidates putting themselves forward for the county council seat.
