Manor of Groves

High Wych is a village and civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district of Hertfordshire, England. The village is located a little over one mile south-west of the town of Sawbridgeworth, and around three miles north-east of Harlow in the neighbouring county of Essex. The parish includes the settlements of Great Pennys, Trimms Green, Sacombs Ash, Allens Green, Chandlers, Carters, Rook End, Hoskins and Sayes Park. The village contains a Church of England primary school and a late 19th-century church, St James, with a marble reredos and a Father Willis organ. A moated site is all that remains of the medieval residence of Mathams. There is also a Georgian historical house called the Manor of Groves which is now a hotel. High Wych was historically part of the parish of Sawbridgeworth. It became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1862. High Wych remained part of the civil parish of Sawbridgeworth until 1 April 1901 when it became a separate civil parish.

Rowneybury House is a house in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England. The property on which Rowneybury stands was part of Pishiobury before being divided in the 1880s. It was owned by Hertfordshire County Council and used as a home for children with learning disabilities. The original property had two upper floors, and a cellar under the majority of the main building. After laying empty for several years, it was purchased from the Council and renovated. In 1999, the property was purchased by the footballer David Beckham and his wife Victoria Beckham for £2.5 million. The property became dubbed "Beckingham Palace" by the press as a portmanteau of their surname and Buckingham Palace. They spent around £3 million on refurbishment, including a maze designed by James Gardner, in the grounds. In 2001, Victoria Beckham made a virtual tour of the mansion available online.The property was put up for sale by the Beckhams in 2013. The house, with 17 acres (6.9 ha) of grounds, was bought by the insurance tycoon Neil Utley, chairman of Hastings Direct, and Narmali Utley for £11.35 million in 2014.Rowneybury Cottage, near the entrance to the estate on Harlow Road, is a Grade II listed building. This timberframed house, dating from the late 16th-century to early 17th-century, was listed in 1981.

Harlow Mill railway station is on the West Anglia Main Line serving the eastern part of Harlow in Essex, England. It is 24 miles 36 chains (39.3 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Harlow Town and Sawbridgeworth stations. Its three-letter station code is HWM. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Greater Anglia.

Gilston is a village and civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district of Hertfordshire, England. It is located a little over one mile north of the town of Harlow in the neighbouring county of Essex. Together with the nearby village of Eastwick, it forms the parish council of Eastwick and Gilston Parish Council. It is within the Hunsdon ward of East Hertfordshire District Council. At the 2001 Census, the population was 180, and 228 at the 2011 Census.

Royal Air Force Sawbridgeworth or more simply RAF Sawbridgeworth is a former Royal Air Force station located 5.2 miles (8.4 km) north of Harlow, Essex and 14.4 miles (23.2 km) east of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. The airfield was used during the First World War as a night landing ground for fighter aircraft of the Home Defence squadrons protecting London against attacks from German airships. During the inter-war period it was occasionally used for glider and civilian flying until 1937 when it became Mathams Wood Advanced Landing Ground (named after the nearby wooded area). In 1940 it was renamed RAF Sawbridgeworth after correspondence between the 2(AC) Squadron (and station) Commanding Officer Wing Commander A. J. W. Geddes and the Air Ministry in London. It ceased active operations in 1944 and, after a number of ground-based units operated from the site, was finally closed in mid-1946 and safeguarding relinquished by the RAF in May 1956.

Harlow Marsh is a 13.8 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Harlow in Essex. It is owned and managed by Harlow District Council.The site is in three separate areas, Maymeads Marsh (or Honeymead Marsh), Marshgate Spring and Parndon Moat Marsh. Maymeads Marsh has a reed-filled pond with a bird hide, and wildflower meadows with many insects. Over 100 species of bird have been recorded, including the rare little ringed plover and ring ouzel. Parndon Moat Marsh has ponds, woodland, wildflower meadows, drainage ditches, sedge beds and a moat, which is a Scheduled Monument. Marshgate Spring has mature woodland with oak and hornbeam, and marshes with reed and sedge beds.Maymeads Marsh is between the River Stort and the railway line, east of Harlow Town railway station. There is access from a footpath along the southern side of the river. West of Maymeads Marsh, a footbridge over the railway line gives access to a path to Edinburgh Way, and the entrance to Marshgate Spring is on this path. The entrance to Parndon Moat Marsh is on the west side of Allende Avenue, between the river and the railway line.

St Mary's Church is a Anglican parish church in Gilston, Hertfordshire, England. It dates from the 13th century. The church was restored by Philip Hardwick in 1852. It is a Grade I listed building. In the churchyard is the Johnston Monument designed by Eric Gill in 1923. This has its own Grade I historic designation.

Gilston Park is a Grade II* listed country house in Gilston, Hertfordshire, England. It was designed by Philip Hardwick for John Hodgson around 1852.

Sawbridgeworth Town Football Club is an English football club based in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. The club are currently members of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and play at Crofters End.

The Lawn is a mid-twentieth-century low-rise building located on the outskirts of Old Harlow, to the east of the town of Harlow, Essex, England. The building is noted as being the first residential tower block in the UK, as well as being the location of its first pedestrian precinct. The structure was completed in 1951 to coincide with the Festival of Britain.

Contrapuntal Forms (BH 165) is a stone sculpture by Barbara Hepworth, one of her first public commissions, made in 1950–51 for the Festival of Britain and installed outside the Dome of Discovery on South Bank, London. It was one of two Hepworth commissions for the festival: the other was an abstract rotating sculpture, Turning Forms (BH 166).The work stands 120" (3.04m) high and is carved from blue limestone from County Galway, Ireland. It depicts two semi-abstracted standing figures. The sculpture was commissioned by the Arts Council of Great Britain who presented it to the new town of Harlow in Essex in 1953. It was the first artwork acquired (though not the first commissioned) by the Harlow Art Trust, and it is still sited at Glebelands in Harlow.The sculpture was listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England in April 1998.
