Gilman Square

Gilman Square station is an under-construction light rail station on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line located at Gilman Square in Somerville, Massachusetts. The accessible station has a single island platform serving the two tracks of the Medford Branch, which parallels the Lowell Line. It is planned to open in mid-2022 as part of the Green Line Extension (GLX) and will be served by the E branch. The Boston and Lowell Railroad (B&L) opened a station at Winter Hill in 1863; it was rebuilt in 1886–1888. The station was served by the Boston and Maine Railroad, successor to the B&L, until around 1930. Extensions to the Green Line were proposed throughout the 20th century, most with Winter Hill as one of the intermediate stations. A Gilman Square station at the Winter Hill site was officially chosen for the GLX in 2008. Cost increases triggered a wholesale reevaluation of the GLX project in 2015, and a scaled-down station design was released in 2016. A design and construction contract was issued in 2017. Construction of Gilman Square station began in early 2020 and was largely completed by late 2021.

The H. Warren House is a historic house in Somerville, Massachusetts. The two story wood-frame house was built c. 1870, probably by J. K. Moore, a local cabinet maker. It is one of the finest Second Empire structures in the Winter Hill area of the city. The mansard roof is pierced by numerous gabled and pedimented dormers, the cornice is lined with dentil molding and studded with brackets, and the house corners have quoins designed to resemble stonework.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The George Loring House is a historic house at 76 Highland Avenue in Somerville, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story Shingle style wood-frame house was built c. 1895 for George F. Loring, the architect who designed it. The house has roughly rectangular massing, with brick facing on the first floor and wood shingles on the upper levels. The front facade has a central projecting section that includes a window bay on the second floor and a polygonally hipped roof dormer above. The windows in this section have diamond mullions. Combined with the wood shingling, this gives the house a medieval English manor appearance.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Wright House is a historic house at 54 Vinal Avenue in Somerville, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built in 1892 for Walter H. Wright, owner of a milk can manufacturer. It is predominantly Queen Anne style in its massing, with numerous projecting bays, including a turret-like section over the single-story front porch. Most of its architectural elements, however, are shingled, and there are bands of decorative cut shingles in various places. Shepard S. It has a wide gambrel roof with cross gables that are also gambreled. The front cross gable is flanked by two hip roof dormers whose windows are flanked by pilasters and topped by an entablature with wooden garlands and dentil molding. The house is clad in wavy cut shingles, and its windows are topped by tall entablatures. It has a porch running the width of the front facade that is uncovered except for a portico sheltering the front door.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
