Choate House (Pleasantville, New York)

The Graham station was a railroad station on the New York Central Railroad's Putnam Division in the former hamlet of Graham Hills, in Mount Pleasant, New York. The Putnam Line ended passenger service in 1962; the line was abandoned and now serves as the North County Trailway rail trail.The station was named after its location in the former hamlet of Graham Hills. The hamlet was named for Dr. Isaac Gilbert Graham, an army surgeon who served in the Revolutionary War and settled in the area around 1785.The station was created in 1931 due to a rerouting of Putnam Division tracks. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. wanted his property at Kykuit to be quieter and more pleasant, so he moved the tracks ¾ of a mile east at his expense; the task included purchase and destruction of the nearby hamlet of Eastview. The new segment was constructed from April 1930 to March 1931. It was intended to have a large waiting room, bathrooms, and an express and telegraph office, though only an open-air shelter was constructed.

The 2009 Taconic State Parkway crash was a traffic collision that occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009, on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Mount Pleasant, near the village of Briarcliff Manor, New York, United States. Eight people were killed when a minivan, being driven by 36-year-old Diane Schuler, traveled 1.7 miles (2.7 km) in the wrong direction on the parkway and collided head-on with an oncoming SUV. Schuler, her daughter and three nieces, and the three passengers in the oncoming SUV were killed. The crash was the worst fatal motor vehicle crash to occur in Westchester County since July 22, 1934, when a bus crash in Ossining claimed twenty lives.The ensuing investigation into the crash's cause received nationwide media attention. Toxicology tests conducted by the medical examiner revealed that Schuler was heavily intoxicated with both alcohol and marijuana at the time of the crash. Her husband, Daniel Schuler, consistently denied that she used drugs or alcohol "excessively", and made multiple national media appearances to defend his late wife and call for further investigation into other possible medical causes for her erratic driving. An independent investigator hired by the Schuler family obtained DNA testing and toxicology re-testing of Schuler's samples, and confirmed the results of the original testing.

The 2006 Westchester County tornado was the strongest and largest tornado in Westchester County, New York since the 1904 Chappaqua tornado. It touched down there on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 and traveled 13 miles (21 km) into southwestern Connecticut during a 33-minute span through two states. The tornado touched down at 3:30 p.m. EDT (19:30 UTC) on the shore of the Hudson River before becoming a waterspout and traveling 3 mi (5 km) across the river. Coming ashore, the tornado entered Westchester County and struck the town of Sleepy Hollow at F1 intensity. After passing through the town, it intensified into an F2 tornado and grew to almost a quarter of a mile (400 m) in diameter. The tornado continued through the county, damaging numerous structures, until it crossed into Connecticut at 4:01 p.m. EDT (20:01 UTC). Not long after entering the state, it dissipated in the town of Greenwich at 4:03 p.m. EDT (20:03 UTC). When the tornado entered Westchester County, it was the eighth known tornado to either touch down or enter the county since 1950.Two barns and a warehouse were destroyed, and a large stained-glass window was shattered. Numerous homes and businesses were damaged and thousands of trees were uprooted. There were no fatalities and only six minor injuries were associated with the storm. The cost of damages was estimated at $12.1 million.

The Pleasantville Music Festival is a single-day music festival held annually at Parkway Field in Pleasantville, New York. These major acts perform alongside up-and-coming regional acts and small local bands from around the tri-state area.

Briarcliff College was a women's college in Briarcliff Manor, New York. The school was founded as Mrs. Dow's School for Girls in 1903 at the Briarcliff Lodge. After Walter W. Law donated land and a building for the college, it operated at its location at 235 Elm Road in Briarcliff until 1977; closing due to low enrollment and financial problems. Pace University subsequently operated it as part of its Pleasantville campus from 1977 to 2015. In an effort to consolidate its campuses, Pace University sold the campus in 2017 to the Research Center on Natural Conservation, a host of conferences relating to global warming and conservation. The campus was again sold in 2021, to a Viznitz Yeshiva congregation.

Pleasantville station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Pleasantville, New York. There is also bus service to the station from Pace University.

The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is a nonprofit cultural arts center located in Pleasantville, New York. It occupies the old Rome Theater, a Spanish mission-style theater built in 1925.Along with independent and documentary films, the center hosts a variety of special events, including discussions with filmmakers, critics and people from the industry following some screenings. The New York Times has credited the theater with helping to revitalize the downtown area of Pleasantville It annually hosts Pace University's documentary premiere with a documentary created by their class.

Hawthorne Circle was a large traffic circle connecting two major state highways located in Hawthorne, New York, United States, which carried over 67,000 cars daily at its peak. Opened in 1931 to join the Taconic and Saw Mill River parkways, it was replaced in 1971 with a three-level interchange. A 2.6-mile (4.18 km) segment of the Taconic continued on to connect to the Bronx River Parkway, adding to the area's congestion. The Sprain Brook Parkway, the northern terminus of which lies just south of the circle, was not completed until 1980.

Marmaduke Forster House, also known as the Forster-Hobby-Washburn House, is an historic home located in Pleasantville, Westchester County, New York. The original section of the house was built about 1785 by Marmaduke Forster, a colonial carpenter from New York City, as a 1+1⁄2-story, timber frame dwelling. It was remodeled and enlarged in the 19th century, first about 1840 in the Gothic Revival style and again in 1895 by architect George P. Washburn. This later modification added Queen Anne style elements - an octagonal turret on the front facade and a chateau wing with 20 colored glass panes. The house features a rambling 80-feet verandah with elaborate woodwork. The house was renovated in 2007, and a two-story addition built. Currently it houses small business offices. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District is the public school district of Briarcliff Manor, New York. The district is an independent public entity, and is governed by the district Board of Education, whose members are elected in non-partisan elections for staggered, three-year terms. The board selects a superintendent, who is the district's chief administrative official. The district's offices are located in Todd Elementary School. The district has three schools: Todd Elementary School, Briarcliff Middle School and Briarcliff High School. It has about 1,535 students, and spends an average of $24,858 per pupil and has a student–teacher ratio of 11:1 (the national averages are $12,435 and 15.3:1 respectively). The district is a part of the Putnam-Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services. The Briarcliff Manor UFSD won first place for the small district category of the 2008 Digital School Districts Survey and currently provided 1 to 1 devices to all students in grades 4 through 12.

Mount Pleasant is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States, in the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 44,436. The hamlets of Valhalla, Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, and Thornwood, and the villages of Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, and a small portion of Briarcliff Manor lie within the town.

Pleasantville is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located 30 miles north of Manhattan. The village population was 7,513 at the 2020 census. Pleasantville is home to the secondary campus of Pace University and to the Jacob Burns Film Center. Most of Pleasantville is served by the Pleasantville Union Free School District, with small parts of northern Pleasantville served by the Chappaqua Central School District. The village is also home to the Bedford Road School, Pleasantville Middle School, and Pleasantville High School. The region of Pleasantville commonly referred to as "The Flats" is mostly served by the Mount Pleasant Central School district. The current mayor of Pleasantville is Peter Scherer, who has held the seat since 2009.
