Loudoun Valley

Mechanicsville is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. Mechanicsville is located on Virginia Route 9, 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of Hillsboro.

Between the Hills is a small valley in northwest Loudoun County, Virginia, distinct from, but associated with, the greater Loudoun Valley.

Purcell Knob is a spur of the Blue Ridge Mountain in Loudoun County, Virginia. The 1,207 feet (368 m) peak is just northeast of the main ridge at Keyes Gap and southeast of the village of Neersville. Purcell Knob is notable for exposure of the sericitic phyllite base of the Paleozoic Loudoun Formation in its antiformal syncline.

Neersville is an unincorporated community in northwestern Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. It is located in the Between the Hills area of the Loudoun Valley on Harpers Ferry Road (Virginia Secondary Route 671) at the foot of Short Hill Mountain. It is notable for being the birthplace of Confederate guerrilla John Mobberly.

Short Hill Mountain is a mountain ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwest Loudoun County, Virginia.

Hillsboro is a rural town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population was 80 at the 2010 census and an estimated 169 as of 2019.

The Hillsboro Historic District in Hillsboro, Virginia is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. In 1979 it included 40 contributing buildings over its 60-acre (24 ha) area. Hillsboro was established as "The Gap", but in 1802 the town became Hillsborough. In 1880 the present spelling began to be used. Hillsboro is laid out in a roughly linear fashion along Virginia State Route 9 (or Charles Town Pike, as it is used in home addresses in Hillsboro), with lots in the historic district characteristically deep and relatively narrow. The pre-1835 houses in the district are characterized by two-story stone construction with gable roofs. Few new houses were built until the late 19th century, when Victorian houses were built, some with Eastlake detailing.The Hillsboro Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 7, 1979.

Keyes Gap or Keyes' Gap is a wind gap in the Blue Ridge Mountain on the border of Loudoun County, Virginia and Jefferson County, West Virginia. The gap is traversed by Virginia State Route 9/West Virginia Route 9. The Appalachian Trail also crosses the gap.

Britain is an unincorporated community village in Loudoun County, Virginia lying along Milltown Creek. It is located on the eastern flanks of Short Hill Mountain along Mountain Road (VA Route 690) at its junction with Britain Road.

Mannings is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, West Virginia, United States. Mannings lies along West Virginia Route 115 on the western flanks of the Blue Ridge Mountains near the Virginia state line. In both 2009 and 2013, a petition compiled by a developer asking for the community to be incorporated as a town was denied by the Jefferson County Commission.

Hillsboro Gap, also known as the Gap in the Short Hill is a water gap in the Short Hill Mountain formed by the North Fork of the Catoctin Creek in Loudoun County, Virginia. The gap derives its name from the town of Hillsboro, which is nestled in the gap. Virginia State Route 9 passes through the gap in the town. In colonial times the main road between Alexandria and Winchester, Vestal's Gap Road, passed through the gap. That road eventually became the Charles Town Pike and modern day Route 9. The gap poses a substantial barrier to the widening of the congested road as the historic town completely fills the gap and as such Route 9 would have to be routed around or over the Short Hill Mountain to be widened.
