The Hardtkopf is a high hill in the county of Bitburg-Prüm in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. It rises in the South Eifel range and, at 601.5 m above sea level (NN), is the highest point on the edge of the Prüm Limestone Basin (Prümer Kalkmulde). The Hardtkopf is located in the southern part of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park, south of Prüm and northwest of Schönecken between the villages of Ellwerath (part of Rommersheim) in the north and Oberlauch in the south. To the west of the summit rises the little Prüm tributary, the Hennebach stream. From the top of the Hardtkopf there are views of the who of the Prüm Limestone Basin and of Schöneck Switzerland (Schönecker Schweiz). In good weather, the edge of the Hunsrück mountains may be seen, about 60 kilometres away to the southeast. Until the early 20th century an observation tower stood on the summit. Today there is a transmission tower and a water tower.

Prüm Abbey

Prüm Abbey is a former Benedictine abbey in Prüm, now in the diocese of Trier (Germany), founded by the Frankish widow Bertrada the elder and her son Charibert, Count of Laon, in 721. The first abbot was Angloardus. The Abbey ruled over a vast hinterland comprising dozens of towns, villages and hamlets. Its abbot enjoyed the status of a prince (Fürst) of the Holy Roman Empire, and as such had seat and vote on the Ecclesiastical Bench of the College of ruling princes of the Imperial Diet. After 1574, the archbishops-electors of Trier became the "perpetual administrators" of Prüm Abbey which, while preserving its princely status, became, de facto, an adjunct of Trier.

Basilica of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Prüm

The Basilica of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (also called Prüm Basilica; German: Basilika St. Salvator; Verklärung Christi-Basilika) is a Catholic church in the West Eifel, Germany, and a papal minor basilica dedicated to the Holy Savior and the Transfiguration of Christ. Formerly, it was the abbey church of the old abbey of Prüm, founded by the Benedictine order. It depends on the bishopric of Trier. Balthasar Neumann, Johann Georg Judas and Pablo Kurz were architects from different backgrounds with different skills who worked on it. It can be seen that the construction of the abbey no longer presents the dynamic form of Neumann's early works, since it was later realized, despite its northern façade is one of the best in the Eifel region or the entire region of the Rhine. While in other impressive monastery regions were built, in the region of Trier between 1676 and 1729 years no important monument was made.

Prüm (German: [ˈpʁʏm] ) is a town in the Westeifel (Rhineland-Palatinate), Germany. Formerly a district capital, today it is the administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") Prüm.

Prüm explosion

On 15 July 1949 an ammunition depot on the hill of Kalvarienberg in the Eifel mountains exploded. The cause of the explosion, in which the town was heavily damaged and 12 people killed, was never discovered. The crater, which is still visible today, is one of the largest man-made explosion craters in existence. A cross on the Kalvarienberg ('Calvary Hill') commemorates the victims of the disaster.
